Real Crimes: Jack the Ripper Review
By Erin Bell
Real Crimes: Jack the Ripper is the second game in the Real Crimes series of hidden object games whose events are based on crimes that actually happened in real life. But unlike Real Crimes: The Unicorn Killer, where the murders occurred in 1977 and were therefore still relatively fresh in the minds of a lot of people, Jack the Ripper is based on crimes that happened more than 100 years ago and are still unsolved to this day.Masters of Mystery: Blood of Betrayal Review
By Chad Sapieha
Masters of Mystery: Blood of Betrayal, a new hidden object game from Canadian developer Big Blue Bubble, will feel very familiar to those who played Masters of Mystery: Crime of Fashion, a polished and challenging hidden object game released earlier this year. But that's no reason to avoid it-especially since this CSI-like sequel offers up a few welcome improvements.Machinarium Review
In a world where big budgets and development teams often steal the spotlight, it's wonderful when an indie game created by a small team on a strict budget can make those blockbuster titles disappear into the background. Created by Amanita Design, a small game studio from the Czech Republic, Machinarium was the winner of the 12th annual Independent Games Festival's Excellence in Visual Arts award, and it's easy to see why.Echoes of the Past: Royal House of Stone Review
By Chad Sapieha
The question begged by Echoes of the Past: Royal House of Stone, a hidden object adventure game from Orneon with great art and some very clever puzzles, is this: How long should a game last to be worth our money? I was having a fine time playing when all of a sudden, at just a hair over two hours into the experience, the game abruptly ended with a "to be continued" message. Does such a short play justify digging into one's wallet? We should probably take a closer look at the game before ruling. It's a bit of a whodunit. Upon visiting an old castle museum and viewing a series of oil paintings of long-dead royalty we are suddenly whisked into the past to a time when the people in the paintings were alive. Sort of.Casebook, Episode III – Snake in the Grass Review
With the last installment of Casebook (Casebook Episode II: The Watcher) we were left hanging as a murderer got away with his terrible crime. Now, Burton's back on the trail in Casebook Episode III: Snake in the Grass as you accompany him to follow the murderer to his new life. But will Burton succeed in catching him red-handed and proving that he's really the killer he is, or will he get away yet again?Natalie Brooks – Mystery at Hillcrest High Review
By Alicia Ashby
Natalie Brooks: Mystery at Hillcrest High is a fine video game example of the Nancy Drew tradition of female super-sleuthing. As Natalie, you'll hunt for hidden objects, play mini-games, and solve point-and-click adventure puzzles in order to prevent a kidnapping case from turning into a murder mystery. Mystery at Hillcrest High is no taut thriller, though, instead sending the feisty heroine through a gauntlet of devious puzzles and ludicrous challenges with tongue planted firmly in cheek.Hotel Dash: Suite Success Review
By David Becker
In the new installment of PlayFirst's dash series, Hotel Dash: Suite Success, Quinn decides to expand her wedding business by offering honeymoons. But the hotel business can be more complicated than one thinks, with rundown estates, sabotages, ghosts, and guests who do not get along with each other. Why you have to enjoy this new game with a pinch of salt will be explained in this review.Cute Knight Kingdom Review
By David Becker
Imagine a game in which Aveyond meets a lighter version of The Sims. That sounds quite compelling, doesn't it? It's exactly what you get with Cute Knight Kingdom, developed by Hanako Games. While the title has some flaws and is rather rough around the edges, it still manages to charm and entertain anyone who likes a shot of good old role-playing gameplay with a ton of character customization.
