Arcane Empires Review
By Leif Johnson
The best thing about steampunk is that it never seems to go out of style. You can take one of the most tired concepts imaginable, deck it out in some shiny steampunk gear, and suddenly it's appealing and fresh. That's the approach Kabam has taken with their new Arcane Empires strategy game, which plays like many other games in the genre (including Kabam's own Kingdoms of Camelot), but with a steampunk theme that should appeal to even the most jaded fans.Inbetween Land Review
By Brandy Shaul
Inbetween Land is one of those games that will either draw players in or lose them entirely based on its story alone. It places you in the role of an average woman, sent to a floating island in the sky where she's challenged to save her comatose best friend, whose sprit is inexplicably floating around. Still with me? Moving on: crystals are hidden behind locked doors, magical panels or within crypts, and colorful alien ghosts will guide you through the collection of these shards to eventually save the day…and send the floating island…back…to space?Fairy Magic Review
There's a big difference between making console games and making games for mobile, and one of the biggest is content. While the console arena is often dominated by licensed movie adaptations and franchise sequels full of bad language and violence, the mobile arena allows for more creativity and a gentler approach. This month, Bay Area developer inlifesize takes advantage of the more flexible mobile platform with Fairy Magic, a fun little pet sim that gives us a peek into the enchanted land of Fairy.Lost Cities Review
Lost Cities is a 2-player card game where you and your opponent vie for the most treasure points by going on adventures. There are 5 different-colored card sets numbered 2-10, each of which represents a separate treasure hunt. Players play cards in colored tracks on their side of the board to try and end the game with the most points. Of course, there's more to it than just simply playing a bunch of cards haphazardly to get the most points.KooZac Review
KooZac is a match-based puzzle game that seems to be selling itself as a combination of Tetris and Sudoku, which as a fan of both sounds awesome. You're dropping numbered tiles onto a playfield to add them up to a target number in order to clear them out and gain points. Unlike in Tetris, however, there are only squares - as opposed to varied shapes - to drop; and unlike Sudoku you're not trying to hit a set sum but a varying and changing number. So it's really not like those games at all, but is it still awesome?Cosmic Colony Review
By Leif Johnson
It's hard not to admire the determination of the human race after playing Gameloft's Cosmic Colony. Just moments after crash landing onto a distant planet in the year 2088, they're already tossing up headquarters and scouting out the landscape for sites for potential mines. There's none of that nonsense of moping over the presumably wrecked spacecraft or even worrying too much about the inevitable injuries.Kartrider Pit Review
By Nadia Oxford
Though it has its flaws, Nexon's KartRider Dash is a pretty brilliant game. Everybody loves Mario Kart-style mascot racers, and nothing beats hooking up on Facebook to slam your Aunt Matilda with a missile ("This is for that lousy sweater you sent last Christmas—BAM!") But weapon-armed go-karts take a savage beating on the racetrack, so a swift, savvy pit crew is essential to the karting experience. KartRider Pit is an iOS time-management game that takes the KartRider crew off the track and into the pit.Blockolicious Review
By Nadia Oxford
Dietary statistics indicate that the average American doesn't eat anywhere near his or her daily recommended intake of fruits. Hibernum Creations has developed a solution, though the social games company probably doesn't know it. Playing Blockolicious, a unique Match-3 puzzle game for Facebook, will make you want to bite into a big 'ol juicy melon. It's pretty darned fun to play, too.
