By Jim Squires
Another 29 days, another few hundred game releases to sort through. February might have been a shorter month than most, but you probably wouldn't think so if you kept track of the release calendar. Gamezebo reviewed plenty of games over the last four weeks, and these hand-picked winners are the best of the best.Replay Wednesdays: Lume, Auditorium, and more!
By Jim Squires
We cover plenty of new games here at Gamezebo every week, but the number of games we've already covered that show up on new platforms? It's staggering. Starting this Wednesday and continuing every week, we'll be rounding up the games that aren't quite new, but might be new to you depending on your platform of choice.Sony says it’s open to putting its IPs on social and mobile platforms
By Nadia Oxford
Gaming is becoming more and more fragmented thanks to the availability of multiple consoles, phones, and handhelds, to say nothing of all the free stuff that's available on Facebook. It's enough to make a game lover ask, "Why can't we live in peace? Why can't console engineers just put some of their exclusive IPs on mobile platforms?" Surprisingly, Sony has said, "You know what? That's not such a bad idea."Virtual goods have become a multi-billion dollar business
It seems as though people have absolutely no problem buying things that don't really exist, as a new report from PlaySpan is purporting that the sale of virtual goods reached approximately $2.3 billion in 2011. The numbers seem to indicate that one in four individuals spent money on virtual goods last year, with the average coming out to $64 a year per consumer. In an added bit of news that will shock no one, the bulk of these customers are male, with roughly half of guys ages 13-24 saying they bought virtual do-dads in the past year.Pac-Man making his grand return to television
My childhood, it returns. Avi Arad and Disney XD have just announced that Pac-Man will be returning to television in the upcoming series Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins. The cartoon will showcase the ghost-chomping yellow ball and his buddies as they brave the perils of... high school. That's right, we're getting an adolescent Pac-Man who is probably more concerned with finding a prom date than munching the cherries before they vanish, but it's better than nothing, right? Is Apple going to be overhauling the way apps are discovered?
By Robert Weber
As you may have heard by now, last week, Apple acquired Chomp - an app discovery engine. This strategic move will play a crucial role in Apple's effort to renovate the App Store, particularly in search. TechCrunchreported the story first, stating, "investors should be very pleased with the outcome." Since then, numerous other sources have estimated the deal to be in the ballpark of $50 million. After a record year in sales, Apple is sitting on about $100 billion in cash however they don't generally put much emphasis on making acquisitions - this one is suspected to be a symbolic jab at Android. We'll revisit that later. Other improvements we expect include; increased speed, interactivity, and a simpler design.Game Insight revenue passes $50 Million in 2011
It's always nice to report on success stories. That's why we're very happy to hear that Game Insight shot past the $50 million mark in 2011. The primary drivers of the company's success come from social hits such as Paradise Island and My Country. Game insight has stated that Paradise Island is pulling in over $1 million a month, and My Country generated $150,000 a week while it sat atop the iPad charts. Is Playdead considering a mobile port of Limbo?
By Nadia Oxford
How do you feel about thick mists, gigantic spiders that prey on children, and little boys who wander through deadly black-and-grey purgatories with their eyes glowing like unworldly foglamps? If you answered "Man, I am all about that," then Playdead might have a career for you. Going by a job listing on Gamasutra.com, it's possible that the Denmark-based studio is looking for someone to help them port last year's indie hit, Limbo, onto mobile platforms.
