Cleopatra: Riddle of the Tomb Review
By Chad Sapieha
A truly good puzzle is a rare thing. It has to be challenging but fair, with a solution that is isn't immediately evident but instead deducible only by those who buckle down and set their minds to it.Cleopatra: Riddle of the Tomb, a traditional point-and-click adventure, has many conundrums of this sort; puzzles that have the potential to break the brains of both rookie players and seasoned solvers, but become obvious to all once they are finally understood. Unfortunately, it also has a number of seemingly unreasonable riddles the answers to which remain opaque even after the puzzle has been successfully solved.Pahelika: Secret Legends Review
Sometimes it feels like the creators of adventure games are working against you. Their games are filled with puzzles whose solutions are so obtuse, you begin to feel like they actually want you to fail. The same cannot be said for the designers of Pahelika: Secret Legends. While the puzzles are still pretty tricky, it's obvious that the game's creators want you to succeed and enjoy yourself - which you more than likely will. You begin Pahelika by discovering an unusual book that, in Myst-like fashion, transports you to a variety of magical lands. The object of each journey is simply to make it to the portal that will transport you home, but naturally you'll have to do a little legwork first.Flower Paradise Review
By David Stone
Just in time for spring, Fugazo brings us Flower Paradise, a game that allows you to create your very own exotic gardens, without all the backaches, sunburn and dirt getting under your fingernails.Essentially a match-three and box-builder game two-in-one, Flower Paradise retreads a lot of ground we've seen before, but does it in such a tasteful, well-executed way that it makes for a very relaxing, zen-like experience.Flower Paradise's production values are very much like the vibe the game exudes: clean and neat without being ostentatious. The music is a cross between Asian and light jazz, relaxing and helping to set the mood for the natural beauty you are going to create.Laura Jones and the Secret Legacy of Nikola Tesla Review
By Erin Bell
Laura Jones and the Gates of Good and Evil was one of the first games to combine hidden object gameplay with inventory puzzles and mini-games. Nowadays, though, such games are commonplace so it takes something more to impress and stand out from the crowd. Laura Jones and the Secret Legacy of Nikola Tesla is neither the worst, nor the best "hidden object adventure game" that we've seen lately.Casebook, Episode II – The Watcher Review
By Tawny Ditmer
The second instalment of the Casebook series, Casebook Episode II: The Watcher delves into the mysterious suicide of a man named Salt. As Detective Burton's "Partner", it's your duty to uncover evidence in this bizarre case full of twists and turns and uncover what really happened.Real Crimes: The Unicorn Killer Review
By Erin Bell
"Whodunit" mysteries are common fodder for hidden object game stories - even ones involving serious crimes like murder. (For proof, we need look no further than I-Play's successful Women's Murder Club series.) Like its title implies, however, Real Crimes: The Unicorn Killer puts a different spin on things in that the events of the game are based on a crime that actually happened in real life.Legacy: World Adventure Review
By Chad Sapieha
Legacy: World Adventure has players stepping into the shoes of fiery redhead Emily King, the daughter of a storied adventurer who is intent on winning a legendary race around the world and continuing her family's legacy in the competition. Along the way we encounter more than half a dozen different kinds of puzzles each of which provides a valuable clue about our next destination. It's kind of like Amazing Race: The Video Game, but with bug eating and rock climbing challenges swapped out for jigsaw and match-three puzzles. This generous description would certainly make me want to give Big Blue Bubble's eclectic new game a shot. Alas, it's much better in concept than in execution—though it didn't have to be that way.Plants vs Zombies Review
After clicking though the disappointing Bejeweled Twist late last year, we were concerned PopCap Games, one of our favorite casual game companies, had lost its mojo. Thankfully, we were dead wrong. From the folks who brought us Peggle, Insaniquarium, Chuzzle and Bookworm Adventures comes - get this - a game about plants. Tough plants. Plants so tough they can stop hoards of nasty zombies from terrorizing the neighborhood. Plants vs. Zombies is a quirky Tower Defense-style game of wits that might look like a cakewalk, but proves to be as challenging as it is fun.
