Jewel Quest Mysteries 2: Trail of the Midnight Heart Review
If there's one thing a casual gamer can say about the summer of 2009, it's that there is no shortage of hidden object games ("HOGs"). Over the past couple of weeks I've reviewed Diner Town Detective Agency, iCarly: iDream in Toons, Magic Encyclopedia: Moon Light and Department 42 - The Mystery of the Nine. But as television infomercial guru Ron Popeil says: "But wait, there's more!"Spirited Heart Review
By Chad Sapieha
A simulation/role-playing game from independent Italian studio Winter Wolves, Spirited Heart puts players in the shoes of a young woman living in a medieval fantasy city who works to earn a living while trying to win the heart of one of six bachelors. It's a simple and potentially appealing concept. Alas, its frustrating character growth system and unfair game design makes it difficult to give this romance sim much love.Sprill and Ritchie: Adventures in Time Review
A hidden object title with a twist of adventure, Sprill & Ritchie: Adventures in Time is the latest HOG from Alawar, sending you on a wild ride through past, present, and future. When Ritchie invents a time machine, all is well until a flux mixes items from different eras. But will setting things as they were fix the flow of time, or is there more to history than this simple mishap?Department 42: The Mystery of the Nine Review
Let's get this out of the way -- shortly after booting up Department 42: The Mystery of the Nine, a new hidden-object game ("HOG") exclusive from Big Fish Games, I was prepared to give it a solid "A" for its challenging and polished game-play, interesting story, adventure game-like puzzles and outstanding production values. But while these things are true, slowly the flaws of this game began to appear, and as a result lost some -- but not all -- of its appeal.Jane’s Zoo Review
So far, Jane has run half a dozen hotels, a real estate business, and a chain of clothing stores. What's next for the dynamic red head? In Jane's Zoo, the latest hectic time management game by Realore, we find out that Jane has a new dream - to rescue the world's animals from environmental pollution. While out exploring Africa, Jane finds a beautiful savanna being destroyed by an ugly factory. The wild animals need Jane's help, and she's determined to save them. She swiftly organizes a relief fund to help zoos all over the world. The connection is a bit loose, but regardless, she gets straight down to work and heads off to the first zoo in Europe.Amazing Heists – Dillinger Review
There are plenty of hidden object games that ask you to help solve crimes, but Amazing Heists - Dillinger asks you to commit one. Several, actually. You'll tag along with the infamous Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger as he and his crew do what they do best, but you'd better keep your eyes peeled. The Feds are hot on Dillinger's trail, and if John and the boys get pinched, they won't be seeing daylight for a very, very long time.Lost Fortunes Review
By Jim Squires
Waking up at the carnival is never the sign of a good nights sleep, but waking up at the carnival with no recollection of who you are or how you got there? That's just trouble. Lucky for you there's a fortune teller ready to help you unravel this mystery in Lost Fortunes. Play a variety of brain teasing mini-games to get the fortune teller's tarot cards back and she'll help you recover those lost memories... or will she? Trapped inside her crystal ball alongside the missing tarots are the spirits of seven unfortunate souls that have had the displeasure of falling for her trickery in the past. Freeing these spirits, as well as the tarot cards, will help you in a final showdown against the disguised witch in a battle for your very own soul.Nancy Drew: Secret of the Scarlet Hand Review
By David Tovey
Nancy Drew: Secret of the Scarlet Hand from HER Interactive is the sixth adventure from the classic series, now available as a download game. Once again Nancy sets off on an ordinary activity, an internship at a museum specializing in Mayan antiquities. And once again she finds herself elbow-deep in a mystery that only she can solve! The mystery itself is tame, but the puzzles are challenging and logical. It lacks the entertainment value of newer titles, but if you like exploring museums, you'll like the authentic detail here.
