Words on Tour Tips, Cheats and Strategies

Words on Tour is the latest word game from Zynga, and a member of the Words With Friends family. In this game, players spell words to meet a variety of goals, including tile counts, stamp collection, and fill-in-the-blank word challenges. • The phrase in the “Find the Phrase” segments doesn’t change even if you start a new turn – Sometimes it’s hard to dig up a phrase in Words on Tour before you run out of turns. However, the phrase doesn’t change when you restart. This should allow you to go into a new attempt with a good idea of which letters you need to select.
• Green is good to go – When you drag your finger across letter tiles, the tiles will light up green if you spell a valid word. Don’t worry about making mistakes with nonsense words. The turn counter only decreases if you spell a word in the in-game dictionary.
• Build off word suggestions – Like most puzzle games, Words on Tour offers you a move suggestion if you’re stuck. And, like most puzzle games, these suggestions are typically worthless. You can still use them to your favor, however. A suggestion like “Ill” can become “Ills” (or if you’re really lucky, “Illusion”).
• Spell longer words to fill up your bonus tile meter faster – Bonus tiles can clear rows, columns, and even diagonal lines of letters. Spell longer words to fill it up quickly.

• If single tiles are buried in rock, you’re going to want to free them to win the level – If you start a phrase-based level that’s piled high with rocks and you spy a single letter tile nestled in that rock, beware. The level will likely be very stingy with at least one letter tile necessary to work out the phrase in question. In other words, dig for that rogue tile. It’ll be worth it.
• In “Find the Phrase” levels, words with a variety of letters are valuable – If you have no idea what word you’re supposed to spell out in a Find the Phrase level, make sure to use a wide variety of letters in your words as much as possible. That goes double for words that are difficult to spell out. If you see an opportunity to use “Qu,” by gosh, take it.
• Go crazy with vowels in “Find the Phrase” levels, too – Don’t neglect vowels either. If you have a long phrase to uncover, it can’t hurt to use a lot of A’s and E’s. Note that one letter tile fills in one space. If a phrase has a lot of E’s, you’ll need to find one E for each space.
• Phrases are related to the country you’re touring in – Words on Tour’s phrases are relevant to the country you’re playing in. You’re not going to have to spell out “City of Lights” in London.

• Bonus tiles are a great way to collect tiles – Need to meet a high tile count in a very limited number of moves? Build and use row-clearing bonus tiles. They may save your life.
• Don’t forget to move diagonally – Don’t forget, in Words on Tour, you can spell diagonally. Train your eyes to look for words in all directions.
