War Commander – Game Introduction
War Commander is a Facebook game developed by Kixeye that puts you in command of your own army base, waging war against players from all over the world. Gamezebo’s War Commander strategy guide and walkthrough will provide you with a quick start guide, tips and tricks, hints, and cheats to help you win the war.
Quick Start Guide
Getting Started
- War Commander is played on Facebook and you will need to have a current account to play. If you need to register for a free account click here – http://www.facebook.com
- Once you have a Facebook account you are ready to play and can click on the “Free – Play Now” button at the top of this page.
- You will be asked to give permission to allow the developer to post messages on your profile page at Facebook. Click on “Allow” and proceed to the game.
- When you enter the game in the heat of an attack, one of your riflemen walks you through a tutorial, explaining the basics of the game and introducing you to the fundamentals of warfare.
Setting Up Base
The basics of setting up your base are pretty simple: you want your power plant, a metal factory, and and oil pump. The devil is in the details though, so let’s explain how some of the basics work.
Defenses
War is as much about attacking as it is about defending. In the “Buildings” tab, you can buy defensive structures like the gun turret and the mortar tower. By clicking on one of these structures, you will see a red circle, which indicates its reach. By upgrading the structures, they will become stronger and have a further reach. By upgrading the command center, you will be able to build more defensive structures.

Besides slowing down the enemy, wall-elements can also be used in a tactical way. By creating small openings on certain places, within reach of your defenses, the enemy forces can be funneled into a deadly trap. In the store tab, you can buy stronger wall-elements for credits.

Tip: If you really want to spent some time optimizing your defenses, move your troops to strategic places to fight any incoming attacks. For instance, place troops with more health at the front line, while troops with more firepower attack from behind this buffer.
Energy
Building structures in War Commander requires a little planning, as each building uses energy. At the top of the screen you can see how much energy is produced by your power plants. By clicking on a building, you can see how much power it uses when active. As not all buildings are always active (for instance, the barracks don’t use power when you’re not training any troops) you have to be careful to leave a little buffer between the energy produced and the energy you’re currently using.

Troops
War Commander has three main types of troops, and over half a dozen troops for each of these types: foot soldiers, land vehicles, and air vehicles.
Foot soldiers are trained in the barracks, land vehicles are built in the war factory, and air vehicles are built on the air field. To unlock new troops, or to upgrade them, you can visit the academy or the tech center.
You are limited in the amount of troops you can have at the same time, although this can be expanded by upgrading the command center. The base unit capacity for the foot soldiers and the land vehicles are shared, while the air vehicles have their own base unit capacity.

What’s important in deciding which troops to train, is making sure that you have a good balance of troops’ effectiveness. By going to the academy or tech center, and selecting a troop, you can see which types of troops are effective against which enemy troops. For instance, if you’re going to face an enemy that has mostly ground troops, but no vehicles, bringing a rocket launcher troop is not a very effective strategy.

Below you can see an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the main troops of the game. More troops will be unlocked later on in the game.

Battles
By clicking on the map button, you will be taken to the war room, where you can see all the people that you can engage in a battle. You can’t always attack just anybody, like people that are of a much lower level, or people whose base is already destroyed, but the game always provides plenty of people to take on, including a number of computer players.
In the “Rivals” tab, you will find all the people that you have ever attacked or have been attacked by.

Before attacking another base, you can scout the person’s base to get a good idea of what you’re up against. How many defenses do they have? Which troops are walking around? As mentioned before, making sure that you have the right combination of troops can make the difference between winning and losing.
When you’re ready to attack, press the attack button to engage a five minute attack. On the left, you can choose how many of which troops you want to send out, and then place them on the map. While you can choose to send in all your troops at once, placing your troops strategically can go a long way. In the example below, I choose to drop my troops that are strong against ground troops, near enemy ground troops, so that they can take them out first. Troops that are strong against defenses will then be dropped elsewhere on the map, near defensive structures.

Tip: If your combination of aerial troops is better than your combination of ground troops, or the other way around, try sending in the weaker troops first to cause a distraction while your stronger troops deal out the heavy damage. Sending out these sort of decoy troops in waves, will keep the enemy troops distracted even longer.
Congratulations!
