How to Play

  • Upon starting the game for the first time, you will be introduced to a couple, and will need to give them names. You can either name them yourself, or click the “Random Name/Generate” button until you find one you like. Once happy with a name, click OK.
Village Life
  • Next, you’ll need to find Shelter for the couple. Click on a Building, then choose to Move them In. When you build shelters in the future, the same thing applies. You may also choose to move couples out by selecting the shelter in this fashion. Shelter is one of the Core Needs of your villagers.
  • The second Core Need of your villagers is Water. By default, this can be gathered at a stone River Platform. Click on the stones to gather water. Once the gathering time has been fulfilled, click on the buckets to collect it. Water is stored in a water barrel within the village.
  • The third Core Need is Food. Gather food by selecting a natural bush or tree bearing food (i.e. strawberries, apples) to gather from it. Once the gathering time has been fulfilled, click on the basket of fruit to collect it. Food is stored within a Food Store tent. Later, you may also produce food via Farming.
  • Once these Core Needs have been fulfilled, your first villager couple will go into labor, giving birth to the first of your young villagers. Congratulations! You will get to name them and watch them grow into eventual adults.
  • The next important thing you need to learn about is Fire. A Fire will keep your villagers safe and warm. Each time you select a multiple-step task, such as building a fire, it will be triggered as a Quest. Quests appear on the left side of your screen and show tasks you need to complete and updates as you progress. You can view a Quest status at any time by clicking on the icon that corresponds with it on the left.
Village Life
  • Whenever there is a task to be done, you will need to select a villager to complete that task. The duration of the task will be shown, and a list of available villagers will pop up, showing their skills and energy. Toggle over the “Select” button to view how much energy will be depleted by having them do that task. Then, make your selection.
Village Life
  • Once you’ve completed the game’s tutorial, your couple, along with their children, will move into a new village where two more new characters are waiting for you. Now we can discuss things in more detail.
  • Thought Bubbles are a villager’s way of telling you what their needs are. Each villager will have things on their mind that they want, and it’s your job to make it happen! When you click on a thought bubble, a menu will pop up taking you to the thing that villager wants. This will start new Quests and tasks to be completed.
Village Life
  • You learned about the Core Needs above- Shelter, Food, and Water. Make sure these are always available to your villagers. Each villager needs a shelter, food and water available. But, sometimes they want something different. For example, eventually villagers will grow tired of living off strawberries and apples alone, and will ask for something new via their Thought Bubbles. Make sure to open new Quests and cater to their needs in this manner.
  • Survival isn’t the only rule when it comes to your villagers though: they also need to be happy! Happiness acts as the Experience system for Village Life. While food and water make villagers happy, Fun makes them even happier! Eventually they will start asking for things such as a Dance Circle so that they can have fun. It is essential you cater to their need for fun, as it is the only way for you to gain levels and experience.
  • When a villager is happy, Happiness will take a physical form. Collect this Happiness to work towards reaching the next level!
Village Life
  • As you collect Happiness, it will be transferred to the nearby Shrine. When the Shrine is full, click on it to level up! Leveling up offers you extra rewards and unlockable content.
Village Life
  • Gems are one of the gifts you will receive when you level up. These can be used to speed up tasks to early completion, purchase special items via the market, or can be used to purchase additional Wisdom Keys. These are fairly plentiful, but spend them wisely! Gems can also be used to Skip steps in a Quest.
  • Wisdom Keys are another important item you will often receive upon leveling up. You will need these to unlock food or resources that are not immediately available to you yet. Oftentimes villagers will want new things that require unlocking before you embark on a Quest, so make sure you save one or two just in case you need them!
Village Life
  • You will also earn Coins when you level up. These can be spent in the Market on various items, usually for decoration. When you sell items or resources, Coins will be the currency you receive.
  • Since you already know the basics regarding Quests and Foraging for Food and Water, it’s time to familiarize you with Crafting. Sometimes bare hands just aren’t enough– in such cases, your villagers will need tools to reach their goals! This is especially common when you’re trying to create Fun items for their needs. First you will need to gather the necessary materials and build a Crafting Table. Once this is done, sometimes you will need to make tools for a Quest. These are built here.
Village Life
  • Above you learned about the positive side of Happiness, and why you want to keep your villagers happy. However, it’s important you also understand the negative consequences should you not keep your villagers happy. Unhappy villagers (villagers who have too many unmet needs, or have had unmet needs for a while), will not be able to participate in fun activities, and thus will not generate Happiness. This means you will be that much further from leveling up and the rewards that come with it. Fun activity thought bubbles will turn gold when this happens.
Village Life
  • Furthermore, should you not meet a villager’s needs and they go unhappy for a long time, they will eventually refuse to work and will not be able to participate in completing tasks. Therefore, it is in your best interest you keep them happy.
  • Now, you may have noticed when taking a closer look at your villagers or selecting them for tasks, that they might have a little colored shield icon- blue, pink, or orange. A shield icon represents a skill. Villagers can have single or multiple skills pertaining to Gathering, Farming, Mining, or Crafting. Pink means a trait is from the mother (inherited), blue from the father (inherited), and orange is their profession.
Village Life
  • Now, when your villagers come of age, some skills will automatically be inherited. However, you may choose their profession for them! In this way, you can make sure you have villagers suited for each type of task. You can choose a new skill/profession for them, or you may choose to give them a profession based on their inherited skills, making them even faster in that area. Take the screenshot of the character below as an example of this.
Village Life
  • Skills are important to take into consideration when assigning tasks to villagers. Villagers who possess a skill related to the task at hand will be able to complete it faster. Use this to your advantage when assigning tasks and planning out how to complete Quests in the most time-efficient manner possible. If you’re not sure what a villager’s skills are, when you select a task, simply toggle over them to see whether or not they have a skill related to that task.
  • In Village Life, all your villagers will age. There are multiple life-stages: Infant, Child, Teenager, and Adult. Once a villager becomes a Teenager, their skills and profession can be set and they will be able to work on tasks.
  • If your villager is single and an adult, one of their needs might be wanting a relationship. Click on their thought bubble to access the appropriate menu and see if there are any applicable candidates for them to date. If so, send a request! If accepted, your character may fall in love. Dating and relationships require you have at least one other friend playing the game.
Village Life
  • If a date goes well (hearts appear over your villager’s head), your villager may wish to get married soon after. Click on the thought bubble and act accordingly– if all goes well, the two villagers will marry, bringing with them much Happiness and many rewards. By default, the villagers will move to the village of of the male villager. Once married, they may choose to have children, and so the cycle of Village Life takes place!

Tips and Tricks

  • Sometimes your villagers will think of things they want in their thought bubbles that you already have available to them. This usually happens when they’ve been working on a task for a while. In such cases, when they complete their task, they should go satisfy that need as soon as they’re done. Make sure not to assign them again too quickly– give them a short break to satisfy some of their needs first.
  • Use Thought Bubbles of new items as suggestions of what Quests you should do next. It’s best to wait for “suggestions” from the Villagers when it comes to new things in this way so that they’re never without the things that make them happy.
  • When a tasks is complete and the item(s) are available to be collected, or your villager drops Happiness, simply move your cursor over the bubble to pop it and collect the item(s). If you ignore these bubbles, they will eventually be collected automatically.
  • Villagers will use up resources while you are away, so make sure you leave them with food and water! If their needs are satisfied while you’re away, they will produce additional Happiness.
  • Happiness resulting from Fun activities can ONLY be collected while you’re in-game, and will not be collected when you’re away or logged off. It’s recommended if you want to level up and unlock new things, that you spend more time with your villagers in-game.
  • Gems can be used to skip steps in a Quest. This can be especially useful if you don’t want to Ask for resources from friends, or have no friends to ask for resources.
  • When logging into the game, the first thing you should always do is light the Fire, so your villagers feel warm and safe.
  • Villagers run on Energy. The more or bigger tasks they do, the less Energy they will have. Energy will refill on its own (a timer will appear in their selected character window), but you may also choose to use an Energy Potion on a villager should they be completely depleted. Energy Potions are often given as rewards for leveling up.
  • If a villager is unable to participate in a Fun activity, you may want to put them to their best use by making them work towards their Need so that the other happy villagers can continue to generate Happiness for you.
  • Tools and Fun items are very useful, but will eventually wear down. Once completely worn out, you will have to build another. Be mindful that these things do not last forever.
  • You can see how much Happiness a Fun item will provide per use by moving your cursor over it. The more you cater to your villager’s needs, the happier they will be!
