Check out our strategy guide for Veronica Rivers: Portals to the Unknown.

GENERAL TIPS

  • This game does not have a timer, so you can take your time and play at your own leisure. There are 14 portals to explore. Each portal has a variety of mini games to play in between searching for objects. While there are 14 portals to explore, each portal has anywhere from 3 to 6 scenes/mini games within each one.
  • Each time you find an item on the list, you will see a comment appear at the bottom of the page. You can turn off the comments off  by doing so in the "options" menu. Under the word "commentary," make sure that you don’t have a check mark next to it.
  • Some items are partially hidden so all you will see is a small piece of it. Like a red book that is under a red metal box. Make sure that you explore all possibilities.
  • If you’re in the middle of doing a mini game and you need to read the instructions again, you can click on the green arrow at the bottom of the page and the instructions will come back up.
  • Some items on the list can only be seen for a brief moment. Like the crocodile that moves in and out of the scene on the right side of the page. You can only click on those items when they re-enter a scene.
  • Since some scenes actually move back and forth, some items will be out view temporarily until the scene straightens up again.
  • If you click randomly on the scene, the screen will turn colorless for a few seconds, that’s your only penalty for random clicking. The game is actually quite generous when it comes to random clicking.
  • If you don’t want to read the story, just click on the scene and you will see the words "continue" on the bottom right side, click on it to skip the story.

REPLAYING A PORTAL

  • Once you complete a portal, it will be available for you to play as much as you want from that point on. From the main menu you can "choose a portal", the map will open up, click on a location to play it over.
  • Once you’ve chosen a portal, you will have 2 choices, "find the differences" and "item search." In both these puzzles, you will have different objects to look for each time you play it.

HINT

  • This game has unlimited hints but you have to wait for it to recharge before you can use it again. In the beginning of the game, the hints will take 20 seconds to recharge but they go up by 5 or 10 seconds after each portal. Towards the end of the game, it will take the hint button about 65 seconds to recharge.
  • You can actually see the countdown of how long it will take the hint to recharge by looking at the hint button on the PDA, once the number reaches zero you can use the hint again.
  • To use a hint, simply click on the hint button on the lower left side of the PDA. It will choose a random item off your list to show you.
  • Once that item is chosen, you will see the screen go dark and the item from the list will have a glowing outline surrounding it. It only lasts for a few seconds so make sure that you’re paying attention to the screen when you use your hint.
  • If you use a hint with the camera or the viewfinder, the hint will focus the camera and the viewfinder automatically. The same applies to a scene in which you need to zoom into a location.

SKIPPING OR SOLVING SOME MINI-GAMES

  • Some mini games will give you the options to skip it if you find that the game is too difficult. Yo- can use the skip button on the stone mini game.
  • For the game in which you have to trace a shape onto the screen of the PDA, you can click on the "auto" button and it will solve one shape at a time for you.
  • In the GPS game you cannot skip this game but you can use "reset" and it will give you a new layout to play. Clicking on reset can give you many different configurations, so use as many as you want so you can solve the puzzle.

GPS CONNECTOR

  • Use the GPS to determine your next location. Click on the GPS button on the lower right side of the PDA and you will be taken to the GPS screen.
  • Your goal is to establish connection between the navigation satellites.
  • Drag the satellite to one of the connection signals (those are the ones with the white circle) and then click it onto place.
  • You basically have to untangle the lines so that none of them are crossing.
  • Red lines mean that the lines are still tangled.
  • Green lines mean that the satellites are untangled.
  • If you get stuck and cannot complete the puzzle that was given to you, click on "reset" and you will be given a different configuration to play with.

STONE MINI-GAME

  • There are 2 different types of stone mini games. One in which you have to make sure that each ring has a different color and in the other one you have to match the color and the symbols.
  • You can always skip one of these mini games by clicking on the skip button that is located on the lower left side of the page.

RING STONE MINI-GAME

  • In this mini-game you have to make sure that the outer ring and the inner ring have stones of a different color.
  • To rotate the rings, you have to click on them. There are some arrows in the middle that you must use in order to switch stones from one arrow to the next.
  • When you click on an arrow, it will swap the location of the two stones that are on it.
  • It’s a good idea to count the number of stones at the beginning so you can see which stones go in which rings. The stones with the smallest numbers always go in the smallest ring and so on.

SYMBOLS AND COLORS STONE MINI-GAME

  • In this mini-game you have to make sure stones are placed in the slots that match their color and pattern.
  • Use the free (empty) slot that is in the middle to move the stones around.
  • If you look on the edges of the circles that are in place you will notice that they have a certain color and that they also have a symbol attached to them. You want to make sure that the stone and the symbol match as you place them.

SPOTLIGHT SCENES

  • There are some scenes in which the room will be dark and all you have to help you search is a spotlight.
  • These types of scenes work in the same way as the other scenes; you can still use your hints to help you locate items.
  • The hints work really well here since the scene is dark so the items shown with the hint are very easy to see.

FIND THE DIFFERENCES PUZZLE

  • Every so often you will be asked to find the differences between 2 side by side pictures. Most of the time when you play a find the difference puzzle you have to look for items that are in the scene but have a different color, shape or size.
  • That is not the case in the ones in this game, you mainly have to look for items that have been placed on one side and not the other. Some items are well hidden so all you will be able to see is the tip of the item that you are looking for.
  • If you get stuck and can’t find one of the differences, you can click on a hint and the game will highlight a random item from your list that needs to be removed from the scene.

SILHOUETTE ITEMS

  • In some levels you will be asked to look for items by simply looking at their silhouettes. The items in silhouette will be shown to you on the PDA, you will have to look for them in the scene.
  • The items in silhouette will be facing the same way in the scene as they are in the PDA.

TRACING A SHAPE/SYMBOL

  • You will be asked to look at some shapes on the left side of the page and trace them onto the pink PDA.
  • In the beginning of the game, you will be asked to trace  2 or 3 shapes, by the end of the game, you will be asked to trace 10 different shapes at one time.
  • To trace the shapes, place your cursor on the pink PDA screen, hold your mouse and then drag it to form the shape that you see on the left side of the page.
  • If you drew the shape correctly, you will see the shape you drew at the bottom of the PDA, the shape on the left side will also be darkened while the ones that remain to be drawn will be brighter. If the shape was incorrect you will have to draw it again.
  • You can reproduce the shapes in any order that you want, it does not make a difference how you start.
  • When doing the shapes, pay close attention to where the lines start and end, the size of the gap between the beginning and end of the shape. Also make sure that the line ends in the same place as the one in the picture.
  • If you’re having a hard time tracing a particular shape, you can click on the "AUTO" button on the lower left side and it will solve one of the shapes for you. If you want to use the auto feature again, you will have to wait for it to recharge.

EVIDENCE

  • In this part of the scene, you have to find several evidences in the room using the viewfinder, you can activate it by clicking on the green button. The finder will turn green and you will have to find the items by distinguishing the special items from the rest of the regular items.
  • You will see that the color of the item you’re looking for is greener and more pronounced than the rest of the items.
