Unpacking is a game about pulling things out of boxes and putting them in the place they’re supposed to go. There are loads of different rooms to unpack, loads of different objects to stick somewhere and quite a lot of fun to be had.

But this isn’t a game where you can turn your brain off. You’re going to need to think carefully sometimes if you want to finish a room. And that’s why we decided to write this guide. It’s packed full – no pun intended – of the strategies we’ve picked up during our time playing Unpacking.

Whether you’re just cutting open your first box or you’ve already filled a couple of rooms, there’s going to be something here that’ll make your Unpacking experience a little easier. These are the best hints, tips and cheats for Unpacking. Enjoy.

Get everything out

Sometimes it’s easier to just get everything out of the boxes and placed somewhere. When the boxes have been cleared, you’ll then see what’s in the wrong place and can start moving things around so they’re in the correct position.

Use your common sense

More often than not, if you use your common sense you’re going to end up with things in the right places. Got some books? Put them on a bookshelf. Got some clothes? Put them in the wardrobe. Think about where you’d put things, and that’s usually the right answer.

You can move round the screen

You can pinch to zoom and swipe to move around the screen. This can come in handy when you’ve got small items to pick up that can be fiddly when you’re at too much of a distance. You can also use the swipes to see what other items are already in the room you’re unpacking.

It doesn’t have to be perfect

You don’t need to make sure everything is perfectly neat and tidy. So long as the objects you’re placing are positioned on the furniture they’re supposed to be on, it doesn’t matter all that much if they’re a bit skew-whiff.

Some objects combine

There are objects that you need to combine together. When there’s a musical instrument, for example, there’s usually a stand to place it on as well. If there are things you don’t quite understand, they probably need combining with something else.
