Game Introduction – Tank Nation
Tank Nation is a 2D tank battle game created by Wormhole Games. You’ll build and customize tanks, battle enemies, and take your tanks online against other players. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.
Quick Start Guide
Getting Started
- Tank Nation is free to play and can be downloaded by using the “Available On” option at the top of this page.
- When you first open the game, you’ll be asked if you would like to receive push notifications. You can change this option in the settings.
- Once you make your selection, you’ll be brought to the main menu where you can hop into the game!
Fighting with Tanks
- Tank Nation‘s gameplay is based around two-dimensional tank battles. When you jump into a battle, each team will see their tanks line up on either side of the screen. The terrain will vary from flat to hilly, so the first order of business is to assess the situation by looking at your opponent’s lineup and checking out the lay of the land.
- Each of your tanks has a set amount of energy. Likewise, each action consumes a set amount of energy. There’s a lot of strategy that goes into planning your moves. For the most part, you’ll have three options at any time: Attack with your equipped weapon, move with the equipped wheels or legs, and use any available tech equipment.
- To attack, select the weapon on the bottom of the screen. Then, tap and drag a line from the selected tank in the direction opposite you want to fire. A short guiding line will appear to assist you. Different weapons carry different properties. For example, missiles will fire in a parabolic line and strike with four hefty shots, while Gatling guns will fire multiple weak shots in a straight line.
- Movement is important to consider. While most of the weapons can connect from full screen, it’s much easier to do so when you’re closer. Moving is as simple as tapping the movement option, then dragging a line to where you want to move. The farther you move, the more energy it consumes. Different methods of movement provide different results. For example, wheels go farthest on flat terrain while legs excel at climbing hills.
- Attachable tech power-ups also can sway the flow of battle. They each consume a set amount of energy and they can perform a variety of abilities, such as decreasing damage from certain types of attacks, or creating a shield that temporarily knocks back ammunition from enemies.
- Battles are turn-based endeavors. Once your team uses all its energy, the opponent’s team gets a chance to attack. Each tank has its own health bar and once it’s depleted, the tank is destroyed. If you’re playing the campaign, clearing all enemies will usually spawn another wave, based on the level. Clear all waves to advance to the next.
- When you destroy tanks, you can pick up experience, bolts, equipment, and health. If your team is wiped out, you can continue for a fee or dispose of your reward and return to the main menu.
- There are both single player and multiplayer modes. Single player will send you through dozens of levels, each harder than the last. Multiplayer will put you against an opponent’s team, controlled by the computer.
Building Tanks
- Outside of battle, it’s important to use the parts and bolts you collect to upgrade your tanks. Each tank comes with five slots: a driver, a weapon, a method of movement, and up to two pieces of tech.
- Each piece of equipment comes with its own offensive and defensive stats. Using bolts, you can level up each item, increasing those stats.
- Each driver has their own special abilities. Some give boosts to certain weapon types, while others will restore health after each turn. Selecting the driver that has the best base attack or defense is tempting, but remember to consider boosts.
- There are a lot to weapons. Outside of the different types, you’ll run into different elements. You’ll start with metal, but you’ll quickly run into others, like fire and acid. There’s a series of strengths and weaknesses to each one that the game will mention when you land your first non-metal weapon.
- Movement and tech were explained in the previous section. There’s nothing else too special, but like everything else, remember that they all carry offensive and defensive stats, like drivers and weaponry.
- Once you win enough matches and earn enough experience to reach player level five, you’ll begin unlocking more character slots. From there, you can expand your numbers and start to add variety to your team.
Tips and Tricks
- Tank Nation is difficult. Don’t be surprised to find yourself on the losing side of many early battles. You may need to replay previous levels to earn bolts, but you can also sell unwanted equipment to earn quick money.
- Don’t go and sell all new equipment as soon as you get it. Once you unlock a new tank slot, having powerful equipment on hand will let it hit the ground running.
- You can’t use a tank while it’s upgrading, so it’s a smart idea to perform any heavy upgrades after you’ve used all your fuel, as you’ll be unable to play for a while anyways.
- You can create new parts by using the money you win from multiplayer games or by spending real money. You can get some great equipment either way and it makes multiplayer worth playing.
Congratulations!
