Strange Cases: The Secrets of Grey Mist Lake – Game Introduction

General Information

There are two modes with which to play the game, Regular and Expert. I would recommend choosing Regular your first time through, as even then it can be hard to figure out where the active zones are located.
The Interactive Help is not too intrusive at the beginning, so go ahead and use it, especially to show you how to use the flashlight.
Follow the cards. To start a Hidden Object Scene you will need to find the green card within the scene that you will give you the list of the items that need to be found. Otherwise you will have a Main Task card, which will point you to your objective. Puzzle Instructions will appear in the card area when you are working with a puzzle.
The Hint button at the top will recharge at a speed depending on the mode you have selected.
Your Inventory is kept in the suitcase at the bottom left.
The Flashlight is used to illuminate through the black clouds of dark spells. This will usually be to find a Rune Stone. Click on the Flashlight and then shine the light on the cloud until you get your Hand to pick up the Rune Stone.
Special Cursors include arrows for directions of movement, puzzle pieces for either a puzzle or an area you will need to use an item from the inventory, magnifying glass for zooming in, speech bubbles for dialog, an eyeball for something to read, and a hand for picking things up. If you are ever stuck, even at the beginning of a Hidden Object scene, move your cursor around the screen to see if it will change.
Many of the windows that open within the game cannot be clicked away from but actually need to be closed with the X at the top right of the window.
Hidden Object Scenes: GREEN circles are where the cards are located. YELLOW circles are items on the list. RED circles are items to go into Inventory.
Other screenshot markings: PURPLE circles will indicate RUNE STONES that will need to be illuminated with your FLASHLIGHT. WHITE circles for items to read. RED circles are locations with items to go into inventory. ORANGE circles are areas to interact with.

Chapter 1 – The Sheriff’s Letter

Click on hole in the tree (1) to find the green card list, other items, and a ROD.

Click on open car door (2).
Use the ROD on the glove box to obtain your FLASHLIGHT and a SCREWJACK.
Shine your flashlight on the driver’s seat to pick up a RUNE STONE.
Read the newspaper.

Click on the tree stump (3).
Place the RUNE STONE on the rune.
Pick up the LETTER G.
Pick up the LETTER M on the ground (4).
Click on the sign (5).
Pick up the LETTER L and place it on the sign
Place the LETTERS G and M on the sign
Read the note.
Click on the road sign (4).
Move forward and take the right path.
Enter town and turn left down the alley.
Read the newspaper
Enter the window

Pick up the RUNE STONE
Click on the mirror.
Click on the sewing machine.
Pick up KNIFE.

Go forward to shelves.
Click on shelves.
Find the green card in the birdcage.
Use the KNIFE to open the cage.
Find the items and the SNAKE’S HEAD.

Click on the door handle.
Place the SNAKE’S HEAD on the handle.
Click on the handle to start the puzzle.
Grab the snake’s tongue and move it to the left until the snake’s eyes turn green and the tongue retracts a bit.
The tongue will return to the center.
Move the tongue forward until the eyes turn green.
Move it to the right and then to the left.
If you make a mistake the eyes will turn orange and you can start over.
This is a difficult puzzle because if the tongue moves in or out as you are moving it to the right or left, you will have to start over.

Go through the door and enter the entrance hall.
Click the table to the right.
Pick up the BUTTON
Repair the photo.
Pick up the BUTTERFLY.

Go upstairs
Read newspaper on table.

Enter the bedroom to the right.
Pick up the RUNE STONE on the floor.
Click on the piano.
Solve the puzzle, which is a simple follow-the-pattern puzzle.
Obtain a STAINED GLASS
Look out the window
Click on the dummy on the bed.
Pick up the HANDLE and SCISSORS.
Look at the photo.

Return to the hallway.
Move down the hall and check out the doorway to discover you need a WING.
Pick up the STAINED GLASS

Return downstairs to the entry.
Place the HANDLE on the door.
Enter the front room of the store.
Click on the showcase to the right.
Find the green card in the purse. Click on the purse and place the BUTTERFLY in the hollow.
Find the items and the BAT WING.

Return upstairs to the doorway
Place the BAT WING to start the puzzle.
Move the wings around to match the flying animals.
The eyes will glow bright blue when you have the right wings

Enter the office.
Click on the round table.
Place the 3 RUNE STONES.
Click on the snake heads in the correct order. Start with the bottom head and move clockwise.
Pick up STAINED GLASS.

Talk to the ghost.
Pick up DUMMY’S HEAD under the desk.
Click on the box on the desk to find you need a piece.
Return to the front room of the store.
Do hidden object scene in the showcase.
The green card is in the open. Pick up the last STAINED GLASS

Click on the front door.
Place the STAINED GLASS pieces to match the flower color to the circles
Check out the dummy to note you need pieces to it. Place the HEAD.
Check out the cash register to note you need pieces to it. Place one of the BUTTONS.
Check out the coin box to note you need something to get the puzzle piece out of it.
Exit the store.

Click on carriage
Place SCREWJACK and use ROD to jack up the carriage
Click on the empty axle to note you need a wheel.
Click on the wheel to note you need some spokes.

Return to the tree by the car crash by clicking to the right.
Click on the hole in the tree to discover a spider blocking the green card.
Return to the shelves in the clothing store in town.
Do the hidden object scene to find the green card on the shelves, the items, and a JAR.

Go forward into the entry and click on the pictures to the left of the door.
Use the JAR on the FLY.
Return to the tree and give the spider the FLY.
Do the hidden object scene and get SPOKES

Return to the carriage, use the SPOKES on the WHEEL, and put the WHEEL on the carriage.
Click on the door of the carriage.
Turn the squares to get the purple circle in the center
1 turns 1 and 2, 2 turns 2 and 3, 3 turns 3 and 4, 4 turns 4.
Start with 1 and get it into position, then do so with 2, then 3, and finally 4.
Do the hidden object scene to get a HANDSAW.
Green card is in the open.

Move forward to statue.
Pick up the KEY at the base of the statue.
Head into the Sheriff’s office.

Check out the safe to discover you need a dial.
Check out the plant to discover it needs water.
Pick up the JEWELRY BOX MEDALLION next to the plant.
Click on gun behind the sheriff.
Use the SCISSORS to cut the straps.
Pick up the GUN.
Click on the jail cell door.
Use the GUN on the door.

Enter the cell area.
Click on the arm on the floor
Use the SAW on the chain.
Pick up the ARM.
Click on the cell lock to discover it needs oil.

Return to the front room of the store.
Place the ARM on the dummy.
Click on the dummy’s chest.
Solve puzzle.

Click on the closet for a hidden object scene.
The green card is in the wooden box.
Use the KEY on the box.
Find the items and pick up the OIL CAN

Go back to the jail
Use the OIL CAN on the lock
Enter the holding cell.
Do the hidden object scene.
The green card is behind the paper drawing on the wall. Use the SCISSORS.
Find the items and a BUTTON

Return to the store and the cash register
Put the BUTTON on the cash register.
Push the buttons in the shape of an H.
Pull the handle.
Pick up the GEAR and RUBY EYE

Do the hidden object scene on the cabinet behind the dummy
The green card is in the open.
Pick up the 5 BUTTON.

Return upstairs and the office down the hall.
Click on the box on the desk.
Put the GEAR in the box and pull the handle.
Pick up the STRANGE DEVICE
Return to outside.
Do the hidden object scene in the carriage.
The green card is in the jewelry box on floor. Put the medallion on it to open it.
Do the scene and collect the PITCHER

Return to outside the sheriff’s office.
Click on the water barrel.
Place the STRANGE DEVICE on the lid of the water barrel.
Pick up the BOAT.
Fill the PITCHER with water.
Go into the sheriff’s office and water his plant.
Note the number the flowers make.
Head into the holding cell for a hidden object scene.
The green card is in the open.
Pick up the SAFE HANDLE

Return to office and click on the safe.
Put the SAFE HANDLE on the safe.
Enter the code the flowers make.
Pick up the LETTER

Return the office upstairs in the shop
Give the LETTER to the ghost.
Pick up the SNAKE KEY from the floor.

Chapter 2 – The Butcher’s Daughter

Go to the gate to the right of the sheriff’s office.
Place the SNAKE KEY in the gate lock.
Go through the gate.
Check out the door to the butcher’s shop. You need a chain.
Head down the street to the school.
Do the hidden object scene to the right of the gate.
You will need to use the SCISSORS on the brambles blocking the green card.
Collect the CHAIN.

Return to the butcher’s shop door.
Place the chain.
Click on the handle to open a puzzle.
From the top, click on 1, 2, 1, 3, 2

Go inside
Pick up the CLEAVER from the door jamb
Look at photo

Go into the next room (finishing room)
Pick up RUNE STONE
Click on freezer and note puzzle piece missing
Pick up the HANDLE.
Click on sheet to the right
Pick up the STAKE

Do hidden object scene and get the STONE BOOK.
The green card is out in the open, but you need to put the RUBY EYE into the mask to get it.

Return to the school gate.
Read the note and take note of the mailbox missing its flag.
Put the STONE BOOK into the depression.
Click on the open panel.
Pick up the PINCERS (forceps).
Return to the front room of the store.
Click on the money box.
Use the PINCERS to pick up a PUZZLE PIECE.
Return to the school and place both PUZZLE PIECES.
Solve the puzzle where each column and row need to add up to the number at the end.

Head into the school yard.
Click on the garret to note the lock.
Click on the big tree.
Pick up the PAPER and the ENTER button.
Note the rabbit warren that needs 2 bunnies.

Go into the school house.
Give the boy ghost his BOAT.
Click on the suitcase lock; you will get the code from the children’s drawings.

Do the hidden object scene on the shelf.
The green card is in the music box. Put the HANDLE on it and turn.
Find the items and get a MAILBOX FLAG.

Enter the school room.
Charlie wants you to play tic tac toe. Click on the window to do so.
When you win 3 games, you will get a KEY to the garret.
Sarah is writing on the board. Bells will scare away crows.
Note the hot spot on the wood stove.
Click on the drawing on the right.
Put the DRAWING you have onto the drawing on the table.
Watch the drawing animate and give you a word.

Return to the next room.
Click on the suitcase and make the lock match the drawing from the schoolroom by clicking on each section until it makes the word.
Pick up the BELL CLAPPER.
Go outside and unlock the garret.
Go into the garret and find Angela
Go up the ladder to the bell.
Cut the ROPE with the CLEAVER.
Put the CLAPPER in the bell.
Click on the bell handle.
Pick up the RUNE STONE left by the crow.

Return to Angela
Click on the hidden object scene to the right.
The green card is in the typewriter.
Click on the typewriter and put the ENTER key back on it.
Push on the ENTER key and get the card.
Find the items and get a HAMMER

Click on the brick wall in the back of the room.
Use the STAKE and HAMMER to get a FREEZER PIECE.
Check out the wrapped up and locked CAGE

Return to the mailbox by the gate.
Place the FLAG on the mailbox.
Pick up a FREEZER PIECE.
Do the hidden object scene to the right of the mailbox.
The green card is in the open.
Find the items and get a RABBIT.

Return to butcher’s back room
Click on the freezer.
Put the 2 FREEZER PIECES on the mosaic.
This puzzle is random and is rather difficult because each arrow moves all the pieces in that row or column. It seems that once you get two pieces into place and you go for the third it moves one of the first ones. Keep trying to get a few of the pieces into the right place and the others should eventually shift. This is a puzzle where persistence does pay off.
Pick up the FROZEN RABBIT.
Return to the school room and place the FROZEN RABBIT on the stove. Pick up the RABBIT.
Go to the first school room and do the hidden object scene on the toy shelf.
The green card is out in the open.
Find the items and get a KEY.

Return outside to the tree and place both RABBITS in the warren door.
Pick up a RUNE STONE.
Return to the butcher’s back room and do a hidden object scene on his bench.
The green card is out in the open.
Find the items and get a KEY.

Return to the garret and do the hidden object scene there.
The green card is in the open.
Find the items and get a KEY.

Click on the covered cage.
Use the 3 KEYS to unlock the padlocks.
Place the 3 RUNE STONES on the runes.
Pick up the DOLL.
Return to the butcher and give him the DOLL.
Pick up the RAVEN KEY from the floor after the butcher and his daughter evaporate.

Chapter 3 – The Undertaker

Go to the raven gate to the left of the sheriff’s office.
Place the RAVEN KEY in the hollow.
Walk through the gate
Click on the circular cross to the left of the undertaker’s sign.
Pick up the CLOCK FACE
Use the CLEAVER to clear the vines off the cross and note the hole.
Click on the door to the undertaker’s building
Pick up the shovel.
Open the door

Check out the clock behind the undertaker and note the 3 rune stone areas.
Note the time on all the clocks (10:10)
Do the hidden object scene on the desk.
The green card is in the cuckoo clock. You will need to place the CLOCK FACE to get it.
Find the objects and collect CLOCK HANDS

Exit and go to the left toward the hospital
Click on the fountain and pick up the RING
Check out the record player and the door to the hospital

Return to outside the undertaker and go to the gate on the right
Place the CLOCK HANDS on the clock face
Set them to match the time on the other clocks (10:10)
Go through the gate
In the graveyard, use the flashlight on the purple cloud to note the missing heart piece.
Click on the bound coffin to note the chains.
Use your shovel on the fresh grave to the right.

Click on the coffin to open it.
Do the hidden object scene on the right coffin
You will need to place the RING on the hand of the skeleton to get the green card.
Find objects and collect a HANDLE.

Return to the hospital.
Put the HANDLE on the door.
Pick up the YELLOW PUZZLE PIECE
Return to the graveyard and forward to the spider gate.
Place the YELLOW PUZZLE PIECE on the lock
You want to move the yellow piece to the spot directly opposite.
Click on spot 1, 2, 3, 4, and then 1 again
Pick up the PUZZLE PIECE that was exposed.

Return to hospital door and place the PUZZLE PIECE on the door.
Turn the pieces starting at the top so that it lines up with the center line and then line up each piece so that the lines stay unbroken.

Enter the hospital.
Pick up the RUNE STONE

Enter the room to the left
Click on the dummy
Pick up the KEY from his pocket
Click on the teddy bear patient and the anatomy chart

Return to the hall and use the KEY on the door to the right
Click on the desk drawer twice.
Pick up the DENTAL FORCEPS.
Click on the snake cage and note the door key piece.

Do the hidden object scene.
Use the DENTAL FORCEPS on the teeth to get the green card.
Find the items and get a LIFT HANDLE

Return to the hall and click on the lift at the back of the hall.
Place the LIFT HANDLE and click on it.
Enter the lift.
Pick up the ARM hanging from the handle.
Click on the handle to go downstairs.
Check out the CLIPPER on the table missing the tooth.
Check out the contraption in the back of the room and note the grip it has on the scalpel.
Pick up the RUNE STONE.
Click on the cabinets to the right. You need to move the sliding doors so that they match the drawing on the wall above it.

Do the hidden object scene.
The green card is in the open.
Get the items and pick up a CROWBAR.

Return upstairs to the doctor’s office.
Use the ARM to remove the snake and pick up KEY 1
Use the CROWBAR on the boarded up door.
Enter the backroom
After checking things out, return to the undertaker’s desk and do the hidden object scene.
Pick up a SCREWDRIVER

Return to the graveyard and do the hidden object scene in the coffin.
Pick up the VINYL RECORD

Return to outside the hospital and put the RECORD on the record player.
Pick up the CLOTH from the bench.
Return to the basement of the hospital
Click on the contraption holding the SCALPEL.
Use the SCREWDRIVER on the 4 screws to remove the first handle.
The second hand requires you to press the buttons in the correct order.
The buttons will light up if correct and will reset if you use the wrong sequence.
The third hand requires you to find the common color in all 4 sections.
The common color is green.
The fourth hand requires you to slide the levers to the left.
The correct order is 1, 4, 3.
Pick up the SCALPEL.

Return upstairs and to the room on the right
Use the SCALPEL on the anatomy poster to get a HALF A HEART
Return the graveyard.
Use the flashlight to clear the smoke and click on the angel’s hands.
Place the HALF A HEART in the angel’s hands and pick up the PLATE from the base of the statue
Return to the statue outside the sheriff’s office and replace the PLATE at the bottom of the statue.
Pick up the RED GEM from the hand of the statue
Return to outside the undertaker and click on the cross.
Place the RED GEM in the hole and pick up a GREEN PUZZLE PIECE
Return to the spider gate and place the GREEN PUZZLE PIECE
Click the pieces in this order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2
Pick up KEY 2

Return to the back room of the doctor’s office.
Click on the safe.
Place KEY 1 and KEY 2 to open the safe door.
Pick up the PROJECTOR and place it on the tripod.
Place the CLOTH on the back wall.

Return to the office and do the hidden object scene to get a FAUCET HANDLE

Return to outside the hospital
Click on the fountain and place the HANDLE.
Pick up the BLUE PUZZLE PIECE and the TOOTH.
Return to the spider gate and place the BLUE PUZZLE PIECE.
Click the pieces in this order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2
Pick up CLOCK PART

Return to the basement of the hospital
Put the TOOTH in the CLIPPER
Pick up the CLIPPER
Do the hidden object scene in the cupboard.
Get the LEVER

Return to the upstairs hall
Use the CLIPPERS on the grate to the right.
Pick up the FILM REEL
Go to the doctor’s back room and place the FILM REEL on the projector

Return to the hall and go to the room on the left
Click on the teddy bear.
Place the ACCUMULATOR next to the teddy bear

Return to the undertaker’s house
Click on the clock
Place the 3 RUNE STONES

Click the pieces in this order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (three times) and then 1

Pick up the SPIDER GATE KEY
Go to the spider gate and place the key
Match 8 pairs of rune stones to defeat the witch.

BONUS CHAPTER: The Claire Adventure

Access the bonus chapter in the extras section.
Click on Investigate
Do the hidden object scene on the hanging bridge to get a CARGO HITCH.

Click on the statue to the right.
Placed the CARGO HITCH into the hole
The statue will rise up and drop a WEIGHT.
A hiding spot under the statue will be exposed.

Pick up the weight
Pick up the POTION and the PIPE from underneath the statue
Hang the WEIGHT on the hook underneath the mask to the left of the door
Take the WOOD CRYSTAL
Go into the next room
Use the WOOD CRYSTAL in the hole beneath the hand to get the FLASHLIGHT.
Pick up the RUNE STONE in the first room
Click on the red X on the floor
Pick up the SNAKE KEY
Put the SNAKE KEY in the lock in base of the woman statue.
Step through the portal

Take the RITUAL KNIFE from the poster to the right.
Take the PAPER with the sun from the upper left corner of the poster.
Pick up the RUNE STONE

Do the hidden object scene in the wagon
Get MATCHES

Return to first room and do another hidden object scene to get a RUSTY KEY
Use the RITUAL KNIFE to cut down the WOOD SWORD

Go forward to the cabin.
Use the RITUAL KNIFE to cut the STICK MAN from the tree to the right.
Click on the mortar
By trial and error, put the PAPER, KEY, STICKMAN, POTION, MATCHES.
Go thru the door

Click on the chest to the right.
Do the hidden object scene to get a PIPE

Pick up the RUNE STONE
Click on the book on the table to the right.
Pick up WALNUT
Go forward to examine the witch’s table. You can place the WOODEN SWORD if you want.

Return to the trailer and do a hidden object scene to get a MACHINE HANDLE.

Return to the first room and place the RUNE STONES on the runes to the right.
Pick up WOODEN EYE.
Return to the cabin.
Click on the mask
Put the WOODEN EYE in the eye hole.
Put the WALNUT in the mouth.
Pick up a GOLD COIN
Return to the second room and place the PIPES in the ceiling.
Click on the machine to the right.
Put COIN in the slot.
Pull the handle
Note the images on the dial.
Click on the button in the center
Match the images using the arrows
Pick up the 3 7’s and put them on the dials
Click the center button
Pull the handle to get 3 7’s and receive CHEESE

Go to the house and click the mousetrap to the left of the door.
Place the CHEESE in the mousetrap.
Pick up the MOUSE.
Give the MOUSE to the cat blocking the hole in the fence opposite the trailer.
Go through the fence
Pick up the IRON SWORD
Click on the hoist.
Place the MACHINE HANDLE and turn it.
Click on the cage and note the need for a key.

Return to the cabin and do a hidden object scene in the chest.
Receive a GOLDEN SWORD.

Go to the witch’s table and place the swords.
Pick up the KEY
Return to the cage and use the KEY
Click on the cage and pick up an IRON GLOVE
Return through the portal
Use the IRON GLOVE to open the door.
Use the IRON GLOVE to pick up the QUILL from the brazier on the floor to the right.
Pick up the SHOE floating in space
Click on the orange markings on the floor.
Place the QUILL, SHOE, and RITUAL KNIFE

Move forward.
Pick up a RUNE STONE
Do hidden object scene on the flying trash to get a DOOR HANDLE

Put the door handle on the door to the right.
Click on the hidden object scene on the junk pile and get an UMBRELLA

Click on the PICTURE HALF floating in the air
Return to the room
Fix the picture with the PICTURE HALF
Pick up the RUNE STONE
Go forward to the other half of the room
Pick up the RUNE STONE
Use the UMBRELLA on the rabbit and get a BOXKEY
Click on the altar and place 3 RUNE STONES
Pick up the PUZZLE PIECE

Use the BOXKEY on the chest in the first half of the room
Pick up the STATUE TORSO

Return through the door.
Click on the base of the statue.
Place the PUZZLE PIECE
Solve the puzzle by making the runes. They repeat in the rows, so pick the simplest rune to match up.
