Snow Kids is a cutesy new platformer that rolls the clock back to the heights of the NES and SNES era. You play as a Kirby-like character that has to navigate a bunch of platforming levels, defeating enemies with snowballs and avoiding obstacles along the way.

While it’s a pretty simple game in its execution, the difficulty does ramp up the further you get. It also doesn’t help that the checkpoint system isn’t all that free to play friendly.

So we’ve put together a few tips and tricks that we think will give you a much easier time while playing this fun little new platformer.

Snow Kids Tips and Tricks

  • Take your time: This might seem like an obvious tip, but resist the urge to rush through every single level and you’ll have a much better time. You’re under no time pressure so focus on being accurate and avoiding enemies, rather than getting to the next level super quickly.
  • Master the controls: The controls are simple but you’ll want to really grasp how they work as soon as possible – preferably before the difficulty ramps up. Remember that you can roll to smash blocks, double jump, and chuck snowballs.
  • Hammer the snowball button to throw loads of little snowballs: If you repeatedly press the snowball button you can throw loads of little snowballs that don’t bounce as much. This is great when the enemy is really close to you.
  • Jump and throw to throw a ball higher: If you jump and then throw, the ball will arch high up into the air and hit air enemies or taller enemies. It’s a nifty little trick when facing enemies that aren’t on the ground.
  • Rolling isn’t just to break blocks: You can also roll to get out of trouble faster or to generally just move across the level quicker in a safe spot.
  • Watch an ad to save at a checkpoint, rather than waste your items: The whole point of the game, apart from to have fun, is to collect those purple gems. So don’t waste them on a checkpoint – just watch a quick video ad instead.
  • You can only take two hits before you’re done: In case you’re not aware, you can only take two hits from enemies or traps before your cute little character perishes. Bear this in mind.
  • Hit enemies into each other and walls to get ice lollies: If you manage to freeze an enemy by throwing a snowball at it, kick the poor thing into a wall to get yourself a lollipop. You can earn more lollipops by kicking it into other enemies.
  • Learn a boss’s attack pattern before attacking: Each few levels you’ll face a boss, which can prove quite tricky – especially considering that death takes you all the way back to the beginning of the level or the nearest checkpoint. So start by just watching their attack patterns until you’ve learned them, then exploit them.
  • Your snowballs roll and bounce a bit before disappearing: This is worth considering – you don’t actually have to hit the enemy with a snowball directly. It’s often safer to just chuck it along the ground so it bounces into them.
