You want to keep adding towers when you’re defending. The more towers you’ve got, the more damage you can do and the more merge possibilities you’ve got. If there’s an empty space, and you’ve got the gold, add a new tower.
There are missions to complete that will reward you with gems. These gems are important because they let you upgrade various stats. Check what you’re being asked to do, and make sure you claim your rewards when you’ve completed the challenges.
The attack levels let you play the game from the other side, sending your forces to attack towers. They’re a great way to get some extra gold if you’re finding it tough in the defense levels, and you’ll often need to tackle them to complete certain missions as well.
In the attack levels, don’t send a single stream of attackers towards your foe. Instead, send a couple – one on either side of the level is your best bet. This is going to force the defenders to spread their fire and give you the best chance to cross the space – you only need to get one attacker through to win.
You should upgrade whenever you get the chance. You’ll know when you can because there’ll be a marker on the button that opens up the upgrades menu. Try and spread your gems around evenly – all of the stats are really useful, and focusing on just one of them will leave you in a pretty bad place.
