Check out our walkthrough for Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet.

GENERAL TIPS

It’s important to familiarize yourself with the 3 icons on the top left side of the screen. This will help you navigate the game well and get through the game faster and in an organized fashion.

  • Icon #1 is a picture of Sherlock Holmes. That represents the lodgings at 221b Baker St. This is where you go to analyze substances, fill the deduction table and practice any of the mini games available in the game.
  • Icon #2 is the map. This is where you’ll navigate to different scenes in the game.
  • Icon#3 is a hat, it represents Scotland Yard. This is where you look at the Crime Reports, Suspects Files and Testimonies.
  • Always remember to click on the "X" that is on the top side of a dialogue box, otherwise you cannot move on to the next scene.
  • You only get three hints per level and there’s no way to earn more. Use them only when you absolutely have to.
  • This is a timed game in which there’s a lot to do in a little bit of time. If you fail a level you will have to start over from the beginning of the level, not just the section you left off.
  • When you’re dealing with the suspects files some things will basically be in the same place for everyone. For example you can always count on a piece of hair being on their head and not somewhere else. Shoes will always be on the person’s feet. Blood stains are usually pretty easy to see etc.
  • If you think you followed all the necessary steps and the game is not taking you out of there, you may be missing something. Make sure that you retrace your steps and that all your cases are closed and that all the green check marks have been clicked.
  • If you’re having difficulty with a puzzle you can practice that same game with no time limit at 221b Baker St. You don’t have to win that particular game in order for it to be unlocked at Baker St. it just has to have been opened. This will allow you to get some practice without losing precious time on the actual game since it is timed.
  • When you’re placing liquids into the burner make sure that you don’t click the tall beaker too far up or you will accidentally hit the menu button and you will be taken away from your scene.
  • You can follow this walkthrough any way you want. It does not matter what you do when as long as you’ve followed all the steps of each section you’ll be able to move on.

LEVEL 1
Cement Works – Deserted Room

  • To begin click on the map icon and choose the Cement Works-Deserted Room icon location.Click on the "X" on the top right corner (to exit out of the dialogue box).
  • You’ll be taken to a room, before you begin you must collect the items that you see an outline of in the small blue box that is at the bottom right side of the page. That is your inventory box.
  • If you hover your mouse over an item, it will tell you what it is.
  • Carpet- I t is on the left hand side, click on it to pick it up.
  • Matches – Left side, on top of the barrel.
  • Green Cloth-Right side, on the ground. It is by a wooden board that is above the opening.
  • Carpet Traces – On the left side, in front of the large carpet.

Light the Room

  • Now there are a few more things that you need to do in order to continue to the next phase of this puzzle.
  • There is a light at the top of the scene, you need to lower and light it so you can see inside the dark hole.
  • Click on the mechanism that is on the right side of the wall and wait for the lamp to go all the way down.
  • Take the matches from inventory and click it onto the lamp so that it can light up.
  • Once the light is on you’ll be able to see some torn pieces of paper at the bottom (see screenshot below)

Jigsaw Puzzle – Landlady’s Note

  • Take the torn pieces of paper from inventory and drag them over to the jigsaw piece underneath. A jigsaw puzzle will appear.
  • You can right click on the puzzle pieces in order to rotate them.
  • I found it easier to rotate all the pieces while they were still on the left side of the page. Rotate them so that all the words are facing the right way and the corners are turned in the right direction.
  • If you find that you’re having a hard time taking a piece off your cursor, just place it lower on the page. It seems that the piece will not release unless it is some somewhere on the board where the pieces are supposed to be placed.
  • As with most jigsaw puzzles, start with the corners and work your way in.
  • Once the letter is put together it will read:"Mr. Gordon, Thank you for your help; I have deducted it from your rent. Thus, you still have 7 pounds 50 pence to settle. Mrs. Pitticot."
  • Please look at the screenshot for the location of all the items.

  • You will see three items, a carpet, what looks like spilled liquid and a knife.
  • Click on the words that correspond with those items on the page you’re looking at.
  • Each correct word that you identify will be highlighted in black and the icon at the bottom of the page will fill as well.
  • The three words you need to highlight are:
  • White Weapon – It is located in the second paragraph.
  • Carpet – You can find it in the third paragraph

  • Sponge-It is on the top right side, in front of the painting closest to the window. It is very small, at the bottom of the painting.

  • Now take the paintbrush and drag it across the picture. You will notice that the picture gets a tad darker in the areas in which you’ve passed the brush. If it was real life it would look like that area was wet.
  • Keep dragging your brush over the painting until the majority of it is moistened, mainly the middle part.
  • Once you’re done doing that, take the sponge from inventory and start passing it over the same area you went over with the paintbrush.

  • The paper with the holes is called the decoder.
  • You have to place the decoder in the right spot until you can read a message by linking all the letters together. By that I mean if you were to write every letter that appears in the holes of the decoder you would get the following message. I will kill you, Vincent.
  • Place the top hole of the decoder over the letter "I" of the word "Gives" in the second paragraph.

Cryptogram

  • Take Vincent’s note from inventory and place it in the jigsaw piece that is at the bottom of the screen. The cryptogram will open up.
  • The solution to this cryptogram is always the same, however the layout is always random so I cannot give you a step by step solution for this puzzle.
  • I can however tell you the solutions for each section. The only thing that varies are the letters that you change in the top part (red part of the tutorial section)
  • To replace a letter, select it with your mouse and then choose the new letter. The changes will update automatically in the message below and in the proper names.

Cryptogram Tutorial

  • Your goal in this cryptogram is to reveal the sentence at the bottom of the screen by deciphering the clues that are given above.
  • Please look at the first screenshot, I’ve divided it into 4 colored section, red, purple, green and blue.
  • When you click on any small letter that is below a large letter in the red section, a set of letters will automatically open up in the purple section.
  • Now before I proceed, look at the blue sections that I highlighted. They are clues that will help you solve the cryptogram.
  • The blue section on the left is showing a pipe and 2 sets of letters to its right. The pipe symbolizes Sherlock Holmes, there are 6 letters next to the pipe.
  • That automatically eliminates the word "Sherlock" from the solution so logically it has to be the word HOLMES.
  • The circled blue section represents a drawing by Leonardo Da Vinci. Since the word you are looking for has two letters, a space in between and 5 more letters, then you know that the solution is "Da Vinci"
  • Since the layout is always different, just follow the instructions according to my examples. You will then be able to use it with your own game.
  • The letters in my example next to the pipe are NDOKPW and underneath that in the same order is in small letters.
  • Find the small letter "N" in the red section and then click on the letter "H" in the red section.
  • You will notice that the small letters under the blue section has been automatically changed to H.
  • As you change one letter they all start to change.
  • Keep doing that until you can change all the small letters in the blue section as follows:

MOZART DA VINCI
CERVANTES CONAN DOYLE
SHAKESPEARE WASHINGTON
HOLMES VOLTAIRE

  • Once you’re done with those you can start working on the letters at the bottom (green section)
  • The letter should say the following:
  • "MARY, MY STAR LET’S MEET AT MY PLACE TONIGHT.BUT LEAVE THE KNIFE LORD LINDON PAYS WELL. I WILL BE RICH.VINCENT"
