SEGA Heroes is a match-three RPG with a lot of charm. Build a squad of your favourite SEGA characters and defeat Dremagen and her army of clones. Gameplay is like most match-three style RPG’s out there, but that doesn’t mean what works for them works here. These tips are tailored for SEGA Heroes, so reading on will give you a boost in your fight against Dremagen.

  • Know your enemy. Many times in SEGA Heroes you’ll be squared up to an equally balanced team like your own. This means they’ll have someone to heal, someone who deals massive damage and even someone who stuns your team. This is why you should try to learn what enemies are the strongest, and what enemies heal others. This way when you start the game you will know immediately who to target.

  • Target the weak or strong? There are many situations where the enemy will have units on full or low health. It is up to you, whether to attack the strongest enemy or the weakest. Normally, I recommend finishing an enemy off before targeting another but there are situations where you should break this rule. However, since you are at the start of the game, I would kill the weak whenever you get the chance. This is because your opponent still attacks with the same strength even if on low health. So finish them off before moving on.
  • When should I target the strong? If you have played a level following the rule above and you die, this means you should target the strong. If you kill the strongest member of the enemy squad first, then finishing the weak will be easier. Leaving the strongest till last will leave you with an uphill battle at the end. It’s up to you to identify when it is appropriate to use each tactic, most of the time following the tip above is good enough.

  • Upgrade often. If you are unfamiliar with games like SEGA Heroes, it’s all about collecting character pieces and frequently. Which means it is unlikely that at the start of the game you will unlock any new characters for a while. This is due to the number of shards you will need to collect a character before you unlock them. Once unlocked you can use the character, but some are only unlocked after 50 or more shards. This means to upgrade the characters you’ve got as you will be using them for a while.
  • I want to upgrade, but I don’t have enough parts. If you find yourself short of parts when trying to upgrade your characters at the start, this could be down to two reasons. The first being, you have not unlocked the right mission yet to earn these parts. The second being, you have only completed this mission once and haven’t farmed enough parts to upgrade. Games like SEGA Heroes relies on the fact that if you want these parts, you must replay this level so don’t be afraid to backtrack.

  • What matches should I make? If you are unsure what matches to aim for, this is a sign. You don’t know who is the strongest on your team. Before any mission starts, it will indicate your squad’s power level and each individual’s power. The person with the highest number is often enough your strongest character so aim for them. However, remember if you focus on matching just one type of colour you will run out of matches fast. A good balance of matches will help you win battles.

  • Match four or more. Matching three in a row is good for doing damage every turn, but against strong enemies, you‘ll need to do more to win. This involves matching four or more and then matching three or more to use the special tile. When you make a match of four or more, a special tile will spawn which you can use to deal massive damage to the enemy. Making combos of four and then three is a guaranteed way to lay waste to your opponents.
  • When should I use my special attacks? After making a match in a certain colour, your characters power bar will follow up. When it is maxed out, you can then perform a special attack with this character. If you are in a multi-stage level, don’t use these specials just before the end of a round. Save the specials for the beginning of the next round or use them quickly to end a level.
