Pokemon Scarlet/Violet is the latest installment in the mainline Pokemon series. This time, you get to explore the Paldea region, where you’ll find an abundance of new pokemon. This game is the first open-world mainline game in the franchise, with Pokemon Legends Arceus being the first ever open-world game in the series. Play as a brand-new student who attends either the Uva Academy if you pick Violet, or the Naranja Academy if you choose Scarlet. Work hard to fill your Pokedex, fight gym leaders and complete the three storylines within Pokemon Violet/Scarlet.

Pokemon Violet/Scarlet Tier List

Below is where you’ll find our tier list for the three new Pokemon starters in Pokemon Violet/Scarlet.

Tiers Explained

Let’s explain what our tiers mean. Please remember that our tier system is entirely our own opinion and should be taken with a pinch of salt. You can choose any starter Pokemon, and it won’t affect your enjoyment of the game. All three starters in Pokemon Violet/Scarlet are great in their own way.

  • S Tier: This is what we deem the best choice for your starter as of right now. This is based on their stats in their first evolution.
  • A Tier: This Pokemon is another excellent choice for your starter, but it’s a little weaker than the S Tier Pokemon.
  • B Tier: Just because we’ve placed this Pokemon in our B-tier, it doesn’t mean that it’s a bad Pokemon. All three starters are brilliant choices and can depend on how you want to play the game. Our B-tier for this guide is for a Pokemon that we think is weaker than the S-tier and A-tier stat-wise.

S Tier

  • Fuecoco – decent attack, high HP, high defense, slow speed

A Tier

  • Sprigatito – high speed, low defense, low HP

B Tier

  • Quaxly – high attack, low defense, decent HP

Pokemon Violet/Scarlet Tier List FAQ

Now that you’ve read our Pokemon Violet/Scarlet tier list for the three new starter Pokemon, you may have some questions.

What is a Tier List?

A tier list is a compiled list of characters, weapons, etc. Tier lists are usually ranked best to worst, or strongest to weakest.

We usually rank S-tier to D-tier, but you’ve probably noticed that this tier list is quite short compared to our others. We believe that none of the starter Pokemon are lower than B tier, so we stuck to a tier list of S-tier to B-tier.

How Did We Pick Our Pokemon Violet/Scarlet Tier List?

We get hands-on experience with the game itself to help us reach a decision. We also conduct research to discover what other players of the game think of the starter Pokemon while taking the overall stats into account.
