Pokémon Masters Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Cheats, and Strategies

Pokémon Masters is a brand new gacha RPG that challenges you to collect a bunch of your favourite trainers and Pokémon from throughout the franchise’s history and send them into battle against a bunch of recognisable foes. The ultimate goal is to win a tournament on the island of Pasio, a brand new location that hosts the Pokémon Masters League.

Winning a tournament is hard work, and you’ll need a heck of a lot of assistance if you want to get there. To help you, we’ve put together a bunch of tips and tricks that helped us get through the game. We’ll also go through the experience in general, so you know what to expect. Let’s get to it.

Pokémon Masters Beginner’s Guide – How it Works:

Pokémon Masters is a pretty standard gacha RPG in terms of gameplay. You’ll spend most of your time working your way through a series of single player campaign battles, earning a variety of resources that allow you to summon new Pokémon, level them up, evolve them, and more.

The key difference from typical Pokémon games is that you can send three Pokémon out into battle with you, rather than just the one. Each Pokémon will have its own trainer too, which you can interact with outside of battle in a number of different ways to get to know them.

Battles have taken inspiration from Chrono Trigger, allowing you to perform moves outside of the usual turn-based structure provided you’ve charged up enough energy to pull it off. This allows you to perform three attacks by a Pokémon that has an elemental strength bonus against your foes in a row, versus pulling off pointless attacks.

Picking the Pokémon that have the right element is key to succeeding in battle. Before you head into a story mission you’ll be given an indication of the elements of Pokémon you’ll face, so you can create a team that counters those types. It’s always made very clear so you shouldn’t run into any issues.

Each time you beat a battle or watch a story beat for the first time you’ll earn gems, which you can spend on summoning Pokémon. It costs 300 gems to pull off a summon, which will take you 10 battles to collect. You’ll also unlock Pokémon as part of the story and can summon more by purchasing gems using actual money. It costs about $3 per summon, and you can get a $1 summon per day.

You can level up your Pokémon by sending them into battle, unlock new skills for them using resources you earn in battle, and increase their star count, and, eventually, evolve your Pokémon to their most powerful forms. Aside from how much real world money it potentially costs, it’s all Pokémon as usual.

Pokémon Masters Tips and Tricks:

Now that you understand the basics, let’s take a look at a few specific tips and tricks we picked up while playing:

• Elemental strengths are important: When deciding which team of Pokémon and trainers to bring into battle with you, pay close attention to your opponent’s elements. You’ll want to bring Pokémon who have an elemental advantage over your opponents, even if they’re of a lower star rating as your favourite team members. It makes a huge difference.

• You can get by with auto battles: Provided you pay attention to elemental strength bonuses, you can comfortably get by most battles on automatic mode. It takes the fun out of it a bit, but it does allow you to grind your way through previous levels to earn resources.
• Save your free gems for the 10 summon pack that guarantees a five star: There’s a special offer on right now that provides you with a guaranteed five star Pokémon by summoning 10 at once. We recommend saving up all of your favourite gems for this offer, then just spend every 300 you earn on single Pokémon summons unless a future event is on.
• Watch the side stories for each trainer to get more free gems: Each time you unlock a new trainer and Pokémon, you can watch a side story clip that provides you with 10 free gems. It’s well worth doing this each time.
• Unlock skills for your favourite Pokémon: If you find yourself using certain Pokémon more often than others, we recommend unlocking new skills on those Pokémon. You achieve this by spending resources you earn while playing .
