How to Play

Pocket Village

  • The Concept: Pocket Village is a city building game where there are multiple levels to progress and you have to use them in tandem to complete goals.  In the early going of the game, you’ll have trees, veins of ore, and berries to harvest.  They are scattered along the world for you to harvest.  You’ll harvest the resources with your pocketeers, who you gain as you build more houses. From there, the game opens up with new buildings and items that will use your resources and pocketeers to sprawl out your city.
  • Experience Bar: Located in the top left hand of the screen, at all times this will be your one-stop look to see where you are in terms of leveling.  As you progress, items and areas in the world will open up to you to create and explore.  You’ll gain experience for almost every action that you do in the game whether you harvest resources, create items or buildings, or sell off unneeded resources.
  • Villager Count: Next to the experience bar is the villager count.  In the provided screenshot, there’s “2/3″—the left number shows the amount of villagers that are idle and are ready to harvest resources, craft new buildings and so on, while the right number displays the total amount of villagers in your city at the time.  With each new house that you build, a new pocketeers will enter your city and become available to harvest resources and build new houses and shops.
  • Coins: Coins are the base currency in Pocket Village. You’ll gain coins by selling off unneeded resources.  Typically in Pocket Village you will have certain resources or items that you need to craft to create a new building, leaving you with too many of one type of resource or building material in your inventory.  At that time, you can sell off the unneeded items and gain coins, which is usually one of the things holding you back from building that new house or shop.
  • Diamonds: Diamonds are the premium currency of the game, and are only gained by leveling.  They can be used to speed up harvesting, crafting or building, as well as purchasing premium buildings in the game.  You can purchase both coins and diamonds to complete tasks with your own real world cash by tapping the “+” icon next to them.
  • Inventory View:  Next to the diamonds is your inventory.  From here, you can see all of the resources that you have currently.  This is a great way to see what you might not need and can afford to sell off.
  • Settings: In the bottom left hand corner is some additional options that you can select.  When you tap the gears, it will bring out the three options for you—the bottom two are self-evident.  However, the most important part of the options is the top one, where you can move around your buildings as much as you would like.  There is no cost to do this, so you can tinker away to your heart’s content on getting your city looking just right!
  • Building: In the bottom right, you have your button to look at your building options.  Let’s click the button and see where that takes us.

  • Building Explained: When you select the hammer icon in the bottom right, this screen will be brought up.  From here, you’ll have four different building categories (along with the ability to purchase coins and diamonds).   These categories are: living, refineries, crafting and community buildings.  Each building has at least two requirements for you to create it, a combination of coins, resources, items and available pocketeers to work on building it.  Anything highlighted in red are the resources you don’t have available to complete the building. Pocket Village caps how many of these buildings you can have, considering them “complete” once you reach the cap.  How many you can have is listed next to the image of the building.  In the above screenshot, that means that I have 1 of the 2 available Metal Works built. • Selling Off Resources: During the tutorial of the game, you’ll be introduced to the “the trader”.  Early on in the game you’ll have a couple of options for resources to sell to the trader, and the prices and experience will be listed for you.  The above screenshot does not show this, but if there is an option that you met the criteria for, there will be a checkmark next to the bag, which gives you a nice snapshot to see what you can do.  If you are in a situation like I am, you can select the trash icon and remove that option from the trader’s slot, and can do this for all the slots.  After some cooldown, new options that are hopefully more to your liking or particular situation will become available.

  • Increasing Capacity: One of the biggest constraints on you building like crazy (aside from building time) is resource capacity.  Starting out, you only have 150 slots for resources, which fill up surprisingly quickly.  By selecting your inventory box (it will look just like the image above, only in your city), you can pay coins to increase your capacity.  It is highly suggested that you do this—it will pay off in the long run when you want to hold a lot of resources (and then eventually sell them off).  Expanding your toolbox (found around level 5-6) is also an option for you, but I would give priority to warehouse first—building tools take much longer than resource gathering.

  • Resource Gathering Options: If you have pocketeers gathering resources, but you need to move them to a new spot, you can simply tap the resource that they are currently harvesting and select “stop”.  As you can see on the wheel, there are two different numbers with the resource image—the one on the left notates how many resources are available, and the top number lists how many are currently harvested.  To become more efficient, you can throw your unused pocketeers into harvesting resources while a tool, plank or steel is being made for a new building, and when they’re ready, you can harvest the resource, pull off your pocketeers, and start your building project.
  • Note on Resources: As you level and new areas of the world are available to you, it simply expands the amount of resources that are available.  The veins of minerals, trees and so on regenerate randomly, so you’ll never run out, even if you don’t expand into new territories quickly.

Pocket Village

  • Unexplored Area: A grayed out area with the “?” flag notates an unexplored area.  Simply tap on the question mark and the game will prompt you with the requirements that you need to open up the area.  Once opened up, whatever new buildings are in that square will become available to you, along with additional resources for you to harvest.
