Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

  • To get started quickly, go ahead and click on the “Play Now” button at the top of this screen. Plants vs. Zombies 2 is a free to play game, so there’s no worry if you discover it’s not your bag.
  • Upon starting the game for the first time, you may discover that you’ll have to update it. When you receive a popup message telling you the game has been updated, just tap on “Okay” to continue. The update will then install for a few minutes.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

  • Taken to the title screen of the game, you will be asked to create a game profile. This profile is where your progress will be saved. You can also create multiple profiles, so more than one person in your household can play it on the same device as you while not affecting your own progress.
  • Once your profile is created, tap on Play to begin playing. You’ll now be shown an introduction video, which explains a bit of the game’s story to you. The game should be mostly familiar to you if you have previously played the original Plants vs. Zombies game.

How to Play

  • At the point you start playing, you are given the option to skip the game’s tutorial if you feel you already know enough about Plants vs. Zombies to start playing.
  • In Plants vs. Zombies 2, the goal of each level is to survive all of the zombies that come from the right side of the screen. These zombies want your brains, and will stop at nothing to get them.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

  • To stop these zombies, you will need to place plants on grassy parts of the lawn. The first plant you’ll be introduced to is the Pea Shooter. This plant shoots out peas at zombies, killing them after enough hits.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

  • To place a plant, drag it from the left side menu onto a grassy portion of the lawn. The plant will then activate and start using its powers immediately.
  • When you place a plant, you will use a bit of sun to do so. Sun is collected when it falls from the sky, or is produced by Sunflower plants. Tap on the sun as you see it to collect it.
  • Once the zombie wave begins, the Pea Shooters will begin to shoot peas at the approaching zombies if they are placed in the same row as a zombie.
  • A wave of zombies is considered defeated when the last zombie is killed.
  • At the end of each level, a massive horde of zombies will approach. Make sure you have plenty of shooters ready at this point to stop the zombies from reaching you.
  • If a zombie manages to reach your house, a lawn mower will activate, killing all zombies in its path. The lawn mower is considered a last resort only, and will not be replenished before a level is finished.
  • As you complete levels, you will continually unlock new plants you can use in the game. You’ll know you’ve unlocked a new plant at the end of a level when you collect the card for that specific plant.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

  • If you think you have made a mistake in planting a plant, you can use the shovel at the bottom of the screen to remove a plant on the lawn.
  • To remove a plant, drag the shovel onto the plant you wish to remove.

Basic Plants

  • These are the basic plants you will need to memorize in order to succeed in the game.
  • Sunflower – The life-blood of the game; produces sun. Even at night.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

  • Pea Shooter – Important plant that shoots at oncoming zombies down the lawn.
  • Wall-nut – Large plant that sits on the lawn and holds oncoming zombies back. Zombies being held back by a walnut can still be shot.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

  • Potato Mine – The potato mine is a very cheap plant, and is not activated instantly. After about 10 seconds, the mine will activate and then explode when a zombie nears, killing it and the mine instantly.
