Pixel Cover is a game about picking up colored tiles and dropping them in the right place. There are shades of some puzzlers here, but with a more – quite literally – hands-on approach. It’s pretty easy getting to grips with the basic ideas here, but there are some things you need to learn if you want to get the most out of the experience.

And that’s why we decided it was a sensible idea to write up this guide. It’s packed full of all of the very best strategies we’ve discovered during our time playing Pixel Cover. Use these suggestions and you’re going to see your artistic tile-placing skills moving up to the next level.

It doesn’t matter if you’re just about to pick up your first pile or you’ve already created some beautiful pictures, there’s going to be something here to help you out. These are, after all, the best hints, tips and cheats for Pixel Cover. So let’s get on with it, shall we?

Look at the arrows

The arrows will show you where there are still tiles that need the color you’re carrying. They’re especially useful when you’ve already done some work on a hue and you’re looking for the spaces you’ve missed. Try not to leave single tiles uncovered, because it can get tricky, and annoying, spotting them

Best upgrades

It’s best to focus on your carrying capacity when you’re upgrading. The more colored tiles you can carry, the fewer times you’re going to have to head back to base to refill. The speed upgrade is nice, but it’s not super noticeable and isn’t really going to make your job any easier.

Bin what’s left

Don’t forget that you have to chuck any leftover tiles into the bin when you’ve finished a color. That’s because you can’t carry a mix of colors on your back – unless you’ve used a special boost that lets you do just that. For the most part that’s not worth the expenditure in time it costs, so just bin and move on.

The coins will come

You don’t have to worry too much about grabbing the coins – they’re going to fly to you sooner or later and it’s rare you’re going to leave any on the level once you’re done. Focus on painting the tiles and the coins will take care of themselves. In fact, it can sometimes be tricky picking them up directly.

Use the zoom

The zoom function is a great way to look at the picture as a whole and figure out the best way to tackle it. It costs a video to unlock it, so don’t feel like you always need to use it, especially on smaller levels, but on the bigger spaces it’s well worth having a look at what you’re up against.
