Oh! Edo Towns Walkthrough

Oh! Edo Town gives you a taste of Edo Japan set in the early 1600’s to late 1800’s. Build up your own feudal domain by attracting residents, developing and placing new buildings, and developing new crafts to use within your community. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

Oh! Edo Town can be found by clicking on the “Play Now!” button at the top of this page.
Select your game environment – You are given the choice of three locations when you start the game.
Heibon – “An average map”
Yamatani – “A mountainous
Umikawa – “A breathtaking seaside map”
You can choose a different environment once you win the game you are on or if you start a second game as there are two save slots allowing you to play to games at the same time if you want.

Game Settings – Tap on “Menu” then “System”, “Options” to reach the control screen shown above. Here you can turn the sound effects and background music on or off and can increase the speed of the characters and adjust the graphics and performance level. You can also lock the screen rotation if you would like.

Choose Domain name and build your first Resident – Next, you will be asked to choose your Domain name which defaults to “Sunny Domain” but you can change it to whatever you like.
You will also choose the gender and appearance and optionally the name of your first residence. You can tap through several different hairstyles and clothing choices but cannot change once the game starts.
After you have made your decisions, tap on “Start Game”
How long is your game? – The game is played until you have reached March of your 16th year. After this point you can start a new game but will be given the option to carry over some of the features you have unlocked from your previous games such as buildings unlocked.
You also have the option to keep playing your current map as long as you like. If you do so, it is highly likely you will find special characters or visitors in your town after awhile.

General Game Tips

Save your game! – Be sure to tap on the “Save” button periodically and especially after large game moves such as building something or earning a large cash bonus and right before you exit the game.
There are 2 game save slots allowing you to run two games at once. When you load the game you will see the screen shown above. Tap on the slot of the game you wish to play. There is an auto save feature in the game but just to be safe it is a good idea to save after big game moves and always before you exit the application.
General information – The game runs only when you have it open and does not run in the background or send you push notifications like other games of this type.
As a nice change this game and others in the Kairosoft series do not have any in app purchases or currency for you to purchase to make things happen faster. The more you have the game open and play it the faster things will happen.
Game Currency – Gold is the game’s currency and you start out with 1500 gold when you start the game.

Meet “Ohisho” – You will be introduced to “Ohisho” who is your assistant in running your domain. Messages will pop up with very critical information in the dialog window shown in image above. Tap on the bottom right arrow to continue reading the text and use the information she gives you to help you in the game.
Tip – If you totally run out of money and it’s no where near payout time of March wait and usually Ohisho comes up with some money for you to get back on your feet.

How to Navigate around the game screen

You have a couple of options as to how to navigate around your town. First you can tap on the small arrow at the bottom left corner to expand a type of navigation wheel. Tap at the top to move forward, right to move right and so on. There is also a handy battery meter at the bottom of the screen as well as a clock showing military time.
Your second option is to reduce the navigation wheel by tapping on the same arrow key and you can tap on various structures in the town which will bring up menus related to their characters or buildings.
Character Navigation – The town residents will walk around the town going from shop to shop and visiting different locations increasing the value of each place they visit and increasing their own attributes over time.
A character can only walk so far in the town and will not venture out past that area unless you are able to get a horse, or wagon for them and then they will be able to travel much further. Sometimes the Castle can have an effect on people’s movements.

Game Map

There is a handy game map you can access by tapping on the map key in the main menu.
The map shows the entire territory and has color coded certain items such as roads, stores, water, houses, Inns, plants and more.
This is a nice feature to help you keep your town balanced. You want to do things such as put plants next to houses and stores next to other stores for combos and higher payouts and the map is a nice way to see if you have things set up correctly.
Note – While in the map screen you can tap on it twice to bring you to that location. The square you see on the map shows the region your character is currently in. This may help you find your character quickly if needed.

Placing Vacant Lots, Pathways, and Shops in your Town

You can only place businesses or houses on land and there is limited space which can be increased by purchasing and placing pathways in your town. You can also place paved roads which are more expensive.
Vacant Lots – You will need to immediately place vacant lots so that residents will move into your town. Sometimes Artisans will move in and run certain businesses increasing the overall value and payout of your town.
Tap on “Menu” then on “Build” and the on “Facilities” and look for the vacant lot. Tap on it once and you will be brought back to the main screen.
Tap on the area you wish to place the vacant lots.
You will see construction begin and based on the value of the building you are placing this could take several seconds or several minutes until it is completed.
Place Trees and Plants Often – Place trees and plants around houses and they will increase the value of the properties.

Building Placement Combos

Combos – Placing certain buildings next to each other will form combos with huge payouts.
When ready to place a business tap on “Menu” “Build” and then “Shop” Choose the business and tap on the screen to place it.
Note – If you tap in multiple spots you will place more than one item so if this is not your intention press carefully.
Always place these buildings next to each other for maximum payouts.
To see what combos are available tap on “Menu” then “Combo List” there are seven sets of combinations available.
The combos in the list menu are shown here –
Snack Combo – Udon Shop, Soba Shop, and Stew Cart – Yield is plus 15 percent, Price plus 10 percent.
Flower Combo – Dumpling Shop, Cherry Tree, Pond – Yield is plus 18 percent, Price plus 5 percent.
Sweets Combo – Bun Shop, Bean Soup Shop, Dumpling Shop – Yield is plus 15 percent, Price is plus 10 percent.
Plum Combo – Pub, Rice Shop, Plum Tree- Yield is plus 20 percent, Price is plus 10 percent.
Kamakura Combo – Daibutsu, Bun Shop, Hydrangeas, Yield is plus 24 percent, price is plus 16 percent.
Mountain Combo – Dumpling Shop, Jizo Statue, Nature – Yield is plus 8 percent, Price is Plus 8 percent.
Archive Combo – Jizo Statue, Library, Nature – Yield is plus 15 percent, Price is plus 5 percent.

How to remove or move items in your town

If you place something incorrectly or want to rearrange your town you can do so by tapping on “Menu” then on “Build” then on “Env” for “Environment”
Look for the button with the hammer icon in the center. This is your deconstruct button.
Place this over the item you wish to deconstruct or move.and tap. Now you should be able to move the item now by tapping on it and then on the location you want to move it to.
The last tap should lock it into place. Some items you will have to repurchase if you take them off the screen to make room for another item.

Researching New Buildings

In order to unlock new buildings to place in your town you must first pay to research them.
To do this tap on “Menu” , then “Research” and then make your choice and tap on the building you want to research.

A menu will appear such as the one in image above and you will be able to choose one of the available buildings. As you level up, more advanced buildings will become available.
Once it’s completed which can take seconds to several minutes you will be allowed to purchase that building and place it in your town or domain to increase its overall yield.
Research Points for individual Residents
Each individual resident of your town has research point categories associated with them. The higher these scores the more of an impact the individual makes on a particular shop when they visit it and perform a craft.
There are four kinds of research points
Education
Food
Technology
War
These research points are discovered as people talk, shop, craft items, or perform research.
You will see these points increase as a small notice appears over their head each time research points are accumulated.

How to look up Resident’s Statistics

If you need to find a resident you do not have to look for them on the town map to find them. If you do find them this way simply tap on them. Otherwise, tap on “Menu” then “People” and this will take you to the screen shot above.

Here you will see how much money each resident has acquired in their wallets and you can see how much they yield or earn for you every year.
If you want to see where he or she lives, tap on their name and you will be taken to their home.
Use this menu to help you find residents to upgrade their jobs or houses if needed.

Shop Parameters

Each time a resident goes into a shop, its parameters will increase and you may find the research points mentioned above there.
As the number of residents increase and thus the number of visitors to a shop increase, so does a store’s overall level.
When residents visit shops and increase the parameters you will see a number over that shop and person flash over them briefly with the amount of increase.
You may find random research points at a shop when a high ranking townsperson visits.

Adding a Castle to your Edo Town

Once you have enough money to place a castle in your town you will be notified as an event.
Remember, you must place your Castle carefully as it can not be moved once placed. You will need to move it as central to your other town businesses as possible.
Once you place your castle be sure to build many businesses around it as castles will boost their yield and those up to quite a wide range around it.
Castles are what makes a domain official.
The castle will receive income from all jobs in the town and a bonus yield based on the cumulative income of the town.
Another nice feature is that now people in the town can actually switch jobs.
It can also raise the payout or yield of other businesses that are far away.

Crafts

Crafts are special abilities or items that have a very high payout value.
Artisans make crafts and they must arrive in your town before you can put them to use.
Once a craft is made it can be used on any building to boost its parameters.

Making Crafts – Once you have “Wholesalers” in your town you have the ability to have an individual artisan make crafts. Tap on a person then tap on “Make Craft” If they are able to do so you will have to pay research points in order for the craft to be made.
If you want to increase your towns person or Artisan’s chance of success then focus on high intelligence and skill to improve your chances of success.

Using a Craft – You may use a craft on a building or on a person to boost that building’s yield or to boost a resident’s wallet. You must pay a usage fee to use a craft and it can provide all kinds of different special effects once used.
Leveling up your Crafts – Crafts must be leveled up. When you do this you will boost its effectiveness and it will also recharge the craft for another use.

National Government Awards and Grants

Periodically the Government will award your town with funding to do research, special grants for building things such as a Castle or to build up your town.
If this happens you will be notified and you are told why you are awarded the money and what you should do with it.
This can be very helpful if you are low on funds. Its best to try to buy a building and trigger this reward.
Usually the assistant announces this and it ends up in the Newspaper. You can also see a message at the bottom of the screen briefly immediately after the award is added to your gold totals.

Yearly Tax Income

Every April the residents will send in their taxes which are based on their house and their yield average.
Residents pay their taxes in gold depending on the size and yield of their houses. (Taxes do not affect their wallets)
You will be awarded a yearly tax income to help your reinvest into the town.
The more residents you have the more money you can invest into your town so be sure to place several vacant lots to attract them.

Visitors/Travelers that come to your Town

On occasion you will see a stranger come into your town which is a welcome occurrence.
Having crafts and combos through building placements will attract more visitors .
If the traveler reaches their goal you will get a small reward.
To access the “Traveler’s List” Tap on “Main” “Economy” then “Traveler List” This will tell you who the travelers are, and how many times they have visited as well as how much you earn from it.

Jobs/Changing Jobs

Jobs are important as they are how you earn your payouts.
Jobs are broken down as follows:
Farmers – Average people who work in the fields.
Artisans – Skilled craftspeople who can make crafts.
Merchants – Hardworking people with more money to spend.
Warriors – Work in the Castle or fields and have a high payout or Yield.
You must have a Castle in order to change the jobs of your townspeople.
When ready to change jobs tap on “Main” then “People” then “Info” and tap on a person’s name.
When you have the information pulled up tap on “Change Job”
You will be taken to the screen shown above. Tap on the new job and you will have to pay the cost shown at the upper right corner.
This may or may not change the attributes of that person dramatically or it may stay close to the same.
If it does change them it can change which buildings become more valuable as this person visits them.

Townspeople Personal Attribute Scores

Each towns person has the following attributes with a number value associated with it..
Intelligence (Int) – Aids in discovering new buildings and leveling up.
Loyalty (Loy) – Higher loyalty equals harder work and more money.
Appeal (Apl) – Makes it easier to go out and meet others.
Skill (Skl) – Helps discover crafts and get research points.

Visiting various locations in a town especially shops can increase certain attributes in a towns person in small increments.
For example if a person visits the “Jizo Statue” it has the ability to increase that person’s loyalty score.
Each person in your town has a loyalty score. Higher loyalty means that people work harder and have nicer houses. Buildings have the ability to increase
Remember where that person can travel is very important. There is a limit as to how far they can go on foot but as the scores increase they will have the ability to travel through town on horseback and when doing so can travel quite far within the town which means they can do a lot to help increase the parameters of any business they visit.
You will want to keep this in mind while planning your future town’s layout.
