Gameplay and Tips

  • This is a hidden object adventure game. You will move from location to location picking up items to use in order to proceed in the game.
Mystery of the Earl
  • Hidden objects/finding inventory items – At the bottom of your screen are the items you need to find in each scene. You are either provided with a list, a silhouette of the item to find or an amount of items to find.
  • Silhouetted list – Often the silhouetted items are broken into pieces and you must find them all to complete the item. To the right of each silhouetted item is a number which tells you how man pieces the item is broken into it and how many pieces you’ve found. For example, 0/3 means there are three pieces you have found none. 0/1 means the item is whole. Found pieces fill in the silhouette. Once you have found all the pieces, the item is added to your inventory to be used elsewhere in the game.
  • Lists – A list of items to find is provided at the bottom of the screen. Click on the item to cross it off the list. At the end of each hunt, an inventory item is added. Items written in gray mean you have to zoom into an area for a closer look. Move your cursor around the screen and when it turns into a magnifying glass, click to take a closer look. To leave the zoomed in area, hover your mouse at the bottom of the scene but above the item list until it turns into a down arrow, then click. These zoom in areas will be indicated by a yellow star.
  • Amount of items – The bottom of your screen will display the amount of items you need to find. For example, you will be told to find 15 flowers, etc.
  • Items collected will be added to your inventory (located at the right of your screen). To use an inventory item, click on it and click on the active area it needs to be used.
Mystery of the Earl
  • Active areas are circled in red. Hovering your mouse over an active area causes it to be highlighted. Click on the item and a text box will appear. This will give you a clue as to what inventory to use on it.
  • Hint system – Click on the Hint button and April, the help fairy, will point out an item to find. Click on April herself and a hint will be given via a text bubble. Note the hint system will not point out diamonds. When not searching for items, the hint function will tell you where to go next.
  • Diary – The diary is at the bottom right of your screen. Items found in the scenes get added as diary entries. Diary items are indicated by a pink circle in the screenshots.
  • Mini-puzzles – You will often have to solve puzzles in order to progress. Skip will complete the puzzle and move you forward. There seems to be no penalty. Note you cannot leave a puzzle once it has started.
  • There is no timer or point system.

Diamonds

  • Each scene contains 10 diamonds. They will be indicated by a white circle in the screenshots.
  • Collecting all of the diamonds unlocks screensavers. It does not provide you with anything in terms of gameplay. There are no trophies awarded.
  • The right side of the screen counts how many diamonds are left to find in the scene.
  • The Help function will not point out diamonds.

Starting the Game

  • Profile allows you to add a new profile (player).
  • Options allows you to adjust the volume to the sound, music and ambient. You can also change the full screen mode and the custom cursor.
  • Exit quits the game.
  • Credits allow you watch the game’s credits.
