Welcome to Gamezebo’s strategy guide and walkthrough for Murder, She Wrote.

The game is based on the award-winning television series of the same name which aired 264 episodes from 1984 – 1996.  It starred Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, along with an amazing list of guest stars, during its 12-year stint.

Jessica Fletcher is a retired English teacher who becomes a successful mystery writer.  Jessica is a resident of Cabot Cove, a small coastal town in Maine.  Jessica is a widow and her one eccentricity is her insatiable curiosity that manages to get her caught up in the real-life murders in her surrounding area.

As a side note, Angela Lansbury won an Oscar for Gaslight in 1944 (it was her first film) and she is still winning awards and going strong at age 84.  She won another Tony award in 2009 making her the top winning actress.  She is currently playing on Broadway in "A Little Night Music".

GENERAL TIPS AND HINTS:

  • There are 5 cases to solve in the game, each of which has a number of locations to investigate.  You will return to some of the locations more than once with different objects to find.
  • As you complete each case a new book with a case will be unlocked.
  • Game Options include Music and Sound Volume – Full Screen or Windowed Mode – Relaxed Mode or Time Mode – use of a Custom Cursor or not.
  • There is no timer in Relaxed Mode.
  • You can save your game and exit without having to restart a scene.
  • When you play again you will need to click on the book you were investigating and will get your choice of continuing where you left off or not.
  • Sometimes your cursor will turn into a magnifying glass when there is an item you need to investigate.
  • If you randomly click on objects, your cursor will become temporarily disabled.
  • There are unlimited hints.  The Hint page is located in the typewriter and takes time to recharge when you use it.

JESSICA’S TYPEWRITER

  • At the beginning of each scene you will be given a peculiar list of items to find because some of the letters are missing.
  • Jessica’s typewriter seems to be missing the keys A, E, I, O, U, and Y which will be hidden around each scene.
  • Once you find the missing keys, the missing letters in the search list will be filled in.
  • If you know what the list says, you can actually complete the scene without finding the missing letters.
  • Her typewriter is also missing a ribbon which is hidden in each scene even when you return to the same location.
  • When found the typewriter ribbon will instantly recharge the Hint page in the typewriter.
  • You also don’t have to find the ribbon to be able to complete the scene.

OBJECT LISTS

Some items on the list of objects to find will be marked in blue and require some sort of action on your part before they are available.

The items to find are random so I cannot show you where all of them will be located on your list but I will mark those that were on my list because many of them will also appear on the list you get.

MINI GAMES

There will be various mini games throughout.  You can choose to play the game immediately, skip it once the Skip button is full, or play it later.

BOOK 1:  A DEADLY CATCH

A Deadly Catch is the first case and it is set in Cabot Cove. Jessica’s publisher and his wife are coming for a visit so she is looking for lobster to serve for dinner.

The typewriter keys are marked in pink and the typewriter ribbon in yellow.

In order to retrieve the paper, which is a past due notice, from the bottle, you will need to select the corkscrew and use it on the bottle. Once the bottle is opened, pick up the tweezers and use them on the bottle to get the paper. The blue items on the list will turn black and then disappear when chosen.

Pick up the Past Due Notice marked in pink to find out that Peter Hammond has been having a hard time with his loan payments. The items marked in yellow were on my list but some of the items might be on yours too.

To swap the jewelry you need to click on one and then another that you want to exchange, but some of the gems have different descriptions that work so you may have to play around with them. For example, the necklace in the upper left row above can be "Gem ruby and sapphire, cut round" or it can be "Gem ruby cut round." Once you complete the game the jewelry on the table will disappear and your scene will be completed.

MINI GAME TO FIND THE DIAMOND SERIAL NUMBERS

Use the magnifying glass to locate serial numbers on 15 of the diamonds. When you find one, double-click on it and it will disappear. Be sure to get the number directly in the middle of the magnifying glass before you click or you may have to double-click again.

The items in pink were on my list. Click on the computer marked in blue to analyze the serial numbers you found on the diamonds.
