Men in Black: Global Invasion is a brand new Pokémon GO-like augmented reality game that challenges you to scour the real world seeking out aliens that shouldn’t be there. Once found, you can simply tap on them to initiate a battle and add them as a part of your collection if you win.

The game basically involves capturing alien after alien, upgrading and evolving those you’ve already caught and adding those you haven’t to your collection. Why are you doing this? Well, to battle your way through a single player campaign.

Not only does this provide you with a steady stream of excellent rewards but you’ll also unlock the ability to participate in special invasion missions. Well, eventually you will – these aren’t quite in the game yet, but when they are that summary will basically provide the core loop.

To help familiarise yourself with this new experience, we thought we’d put together a beginner’s guide to explain how it all works and provide a bunch of handy tips and tricks at the bottom to help you master it. Good luck out there, agent.

Men in Black: Global Invasion Beginner’s Guide – How it Works:

If you’ve played Pokémon GO or anything like it over the past few years, you’ll be pretty familiar with the basic mechanics of Men in Black: Global Invasion.

The game takes place on a digital version of your local area map. You’re represented by a customisable agent and you’ll witness a bunch of stuff going on nearby.

You can tap on aliens to engage them in combat – provided they’re not too far away from you. Beat them and you’ll add them to your collection.

Combat takes place in first person, and involves tapping when a reticle hits the centre of a target. The reticle constantly moves around the screen so timing is important.

That’s without mentioning the alien’s attempts to thwart you. They’ll dodge or moonwalk out of the way and return their own fire. Whoever reduces the opponent’s health to zero first wins.

If you win, you’ll be able to add that particular alien to your team, and we’ll delve into the specifics of that shortly. If you’ve already caught that particular alien you’ll receive points that build towards levelling it up.

You’ll also find caches dotted around, which provide you with a trickle of rewards for interacting with them. These rewards recharge every 10 minutes, so you can continuously tap any nearby caches intermittently to receive more rewards.

You’ll also see what appear to be gyms from Pokémon GO. These aren’t gyms, instead providing you with a space to participate in special missions. These aren’t actually in the game yet, and you can only participate in special missions after you’ve beaten 10 campaign missions.

This is where your team, which we mentioned earlier, comes in. You can create a team of three aliens and lead them into battle against a variety of aliens in a single player campaign.

The campaign battles are primarily turn-based affairs that play a lot like your standard gacha hero collector. You can bring a tank, DPS, support, and various other types of alien into battle with you. Creating a balanced team is essential.

You can only complete 10 campaign battles per day, earning rewards each time you do so and a massive reward after beating 10. That massive reward also includes the ability to participate in a special mission, which aren ‘t in the game yet.

Men in Black: Global Invasion Tips and Tricks:

Now that you understand the basics, let’s take a look at a few more specific tips and tricks that should help you progress faster:

  • Turn off AR mode: AR mode is a fun gimmick that allows you to battle aliens in the real world. However, depending on your environment, it can make battling aliens a lot more difficult and time-consuming. Not only will you have to actually find the alien first, you’ll also have to fight it from various different distances, and it will move around the room. Turn off this mode and it’s just you and the alien at an optimal distance.
  • Aim for excellent hits to conserve your battery: If you tap when your reticle is dead centre of the target, you’ll receive an ‘Excellent’ rating. This deals the maximum amount of damage, and it really adds up over time. You’ll want to aim for this as often as possible to conserve your weapon’s energy. You only get a certain amount of shots before your battery runs out, when you’ll have to grab more batteries in the store or in caches or wait for it to recharge.
  • Collect all of the aliens you can, at all times: Whenever you see an alien, catch it. It’s always worth doing as even if you’ve caught that particular alien before you can level it up by catching multiple of the same type. Sometimes a weaker alien can become a powerhouse that way.
  • Complete your daily missions and get your free rewards: Each day, Men in Black: Global Invasion provides you with three simple challenges that you can complete to get your hands on some free stuff. They’re typically easy actions you can perform by playing the game normally, but it doesn’t hurt to focus on them. Also, head on over to the store to get your free daily items too. This includes an item that will seriously boost the number of aliens you can catch temporarily once per day.
  • Beat the 10 campaign missions per day: You can beat 10 single player campaign missions per day, and we recommend you do so whenever possible. Not only will this shower you with useful rewards but you’ll also be able to participate in the special challenges when they arrive.
