Game Introduction – Mech Battle Arena

Mech Battle Arena is a mech warfare game created by Glu Mobile. In it, you’ll customize mechs, battle through a single player campaign, and fight others in online multiplayer. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

  • Mech Battle Arena is free to play and can be downloaded by using the “Available On” option at the top of this page.
  • When you first start the game, you’ll be asked if you would like to enable push notifications. You will not be able to change this setting in-game later.
  • After choosing, you’ll be sent to the game’s brief tutorial, which will give you a rundown of the controls and a quick taste of combat.

In the Arena

  • Your first experience with combat will be the game’s hands-on tutorial, which primarily gives a rundown of the controls. If you’ve played similar mobile shooters or tank battle games, the layout will seem familiar. The left side of the screen lets you move your mech, and you can double-tap to engage thrusters. The right side button will adjust aiming and firing at the same time, and the arrow buttons will let you switch weapons. You can also switch weapons by tapping the weapon icons at the bottom of the screen.

  • The left edge of the screen features your blue armor meter and your green health meter. The right side shows your current abilities. You can tap on the ability to use it and it will be dark until it recharges.
Mech Battle Arena
  • Your mech comes equipped with at least two weapons. You can pick up more scattered around the battlefield, indicated by a floating icon. The two most common are mines and rockets, both of which are limited-use.
Mech Battle Arena
  • The single player campaign features a variety of objectives. Using the mechs the game gives you, you’ll play through numerous stages, completing objectives like “survive until time expires” or “destroy all the enemies.”  Completing each mission will let you advance to the next.
Mech Battle Arena
  • There are two multiplayer game modes: Team Deathmatch and Free-for-all. Both modes come with the same objective: Destroy as many opponents before time runs out. The in-game timer is not featured on the screen, but you’ll receive frequent notifications as to how much time is remaining.

  • During a multiplayer battle, you can check the current stats for each player by clicking the stats button on the top-left corner of the screen. This does not, however, show individual team scores.

  • After a multiplayer match ends, you’ll be brought to the post-game stats screen where you can see each player’s kills, deaths, and assists. You can also check out more detailed information, such as how much damage each player took and dealt with each weapon used in the match.

In the Menus

  • There’s a ton of customization to be had in Mech Battle Arena, so navigating the menus is quite important. The game gives you a few trial mechs to play with, but you may be interested in purchasing your own.  By clicking the “Store” option, you get to a sub-menu that lets you purchase new mechs, weapons, skins, upgrades, and credits.
  • Each mech has a different specialty and resistance. The descriptions tell what each mech is strong with and against, as well as their special ability, which could make or break your time in combat.

  • Purchasing weapons works similarly. Each weapon has its own damage type and equipping it to a mech that specializes in the same type will produce effective results.
Mech Battle Arena
  • Upgrades are passive effects that make you stronger during battle. The effects may not seem like much at first, but if you start to buy and equip enough, you may start to see more battles ending up in your favor.
Mech Battle Arena
  • You can equip upgrades by going to the upgrades option at the main menu. From there, you can tap an unlocked slot and equip the owned upgrade you wish to activate. You’ll unlock more slots as you play the game. If you have the credits, you can tap the “enhance” option and give a notable upgrade to your upgrades.
Mech Battle Arena
  • The tech tree features three types: utility, offense, and defense. As you play and level up, you’ll earn tech points, which can be used to unlock each part of the tree. Like upgrades, these options are mostly passive, but they provide just enough of a boost to affect battle.

Tips and Tricks

  • When starting off, use the ability that regenerates health. While it won’t always save you, it’s a nice option to have when you barely made it out of a gunfight alive.
Mech Battle Arena
  • There are both long-range and short-range weapons. While you can use the long-range weapons effectively up close, you’re almost always better off switching to a short-range gun, such as the flamethrower. Short-range devices deal damage quicker than other guns.
  • When attacking an enemy, you can tell when their armor is depleted as the forcefield effect around them will disappear when attacked. This is a good time to charge in and hit them with your short-range weapon, especially in a free-for-all game where others can swoop in and steal your kill.
  • Unless you want to try some sort of stealthy approach, it’s rarely a bad idea to constantly be firing your long-range gun when moving. You typically need to aim and fire at the same time anyways, so it’s easy to use your gun, and you may land a few lucky hits from a distance.
