Marvel Strike Force is all about building as strong as a squad as possible. What keeps players on their toes are new characters blasting their way onto our devices. This week saw the addition of three new X-Men characters, each of which is capable of massive damage.

But before we get into each new character and what to expect from them, let’s talk about the biggest change this week, Red Star Orbs.

Red Star System Overhaul

The Red Star system was introduced a good few months ago, and it received a lot of criticism. The issue players were finding is they would spend a long time getting duplicates and gather Elite Orb Shards. They would exchange 5,000 of these shards for a single orb and often get another duplicate and repeat the process over again.

The new system tries to combat this backwards progression by giving guarantees to the player. If they get a load of duplicates, then they get shards towards a guaranteed four-star orb. If they get enough shards of the four-star orb, then they can eventually get a five, six and even seven-star upgrade.

This means given infinite time and money to spend, you can eventually get every character to max level. A mission that was previously thought as impossible now might be achievable someday.

I don’t think the Red Star problem has totally dissipated, but I can recognise a good step in the right direction. There is still a lot of luck needed to get anything from this system, but it is better than the last.

Psylocke

As of right this second, you can open Psychic Dojo Orbs and get shards for Psylocke. If you do not have 500 power cores, then you can recruit her in the upcoming Event Campaign “Move in Shadows”. This Event Campaign has three difficulties and requires a team of Martial Artists to take part in Medium or higher levels.

She not only deals decent damage to your opponents, but she can also remove all negative effects on your team and flip them to the enemy. She has good synergy with any X-Men characters and is resistant to Disrupted effects.

Psylocke’s Kit (abilities shown at max level):

Basic – Psi Knife

  • Attack the primary target for 270% Piercing damage.

Special – Telekinetic Armament

  • Attack the primary target for 200% Piercing damage. Chain to 3 adjacent targets for 200% Piercing damage. Clear 2 positive effects from each target.
  • Counterattack breaks this Chain.

Ultimate – Astral Butterflies

  • Transfer 2 negative effects from each ally to primary target. Transfer all negative effects from self and X-Men allies to primary target.
  • Attack primary target for 300% Piercing damage.
  • This attack cannot miss.

Passive – Reinvigorate

  • On Spawn, gain Evade + Counter. When an X-Men ally drops below 50% Max Health, apply Evade + Counter to that ally.
  • Gain +1,000% Resistance against Disrupted.

Colossus

Unsurprisingly, the giant Russian metal man is a Protector for the X-Men. The best part about Colossus is his ability to charge up and deal more damage. The more stacks of charge you pile up, the more damage each attack will do to the enemy.

Being X-Men allows Colossus to have a whole heap of synergy with his X-Men teammates. If Phoenix is an ally, then he can taunt for two turns and apply defense up to all X-Men allies. Other passives include taunting when other X-Men allies are low health, or increasing their health by 15%.

Colossus’s kit (abilities shown at max level):

Basic – Ringdinger

  • Attack primary target for 340% damage and apply Offense Down for 2 turns.

Special – Altruism

  • Gain Taunt. Gain 2 Counter. Apply 2 Deflect to Self and X-Men allies. Apply Deflect to all other allies.
If Phoenix is an ally, gain Taunt for 2 turns.

Ultimate – Enduring Protection

  • Increase the duration of positive effects on self by +3, up to a maximum of 5.
  • Gain 2 Deathproof.
  • Gain +2 charged, up to a maximum of 5.

Passive – Steel Form

  • On Spawn, if Charged, generate 1 Ability Energy for Self.
  • Then clear Charged.
  • On Spawn, if Phoenix is an ally:
  • > Gain Defense Up for 2 Turns.
  • > Apply Defense UP to all X-Men allies.
  • When a negative effect is applied to an X-Men ally, gain +1 Charged, up to a maximum of 5. While Charged, when attacked, attack that enemy for 100% damage +10% damage per Charged.
  • When an X-Men ally drops below 50% Max Health, gain +1 Taunt, up to a maximum of 2.
  • While in Defense Up, gain +1,000 Resistance.
  • Gain +15% Max Health.
  • X-Men allies gain +15% Max Health.

Phoenix

Not a lot is known about Phoenix as yet. It is well known that Phoenix is a legendary character, meaning she will be difficult to gain when finally released. Details have finally emerged about what her abilities are, and let’s just say we are not disappointed.

Phoenix is unique because she has two different ability kits, one of which activates on death. When she dies, she becomes Dark Phoenix and her passive ability boosts any X-Men allies’ health and damage. She can also stealth allies and redistribute health, similar to Scarlet Witch.

America Chavez and Cyclops

We know that these two are closing in on an appearance in Marvel Strike Force. America Chavez has no release date and little is known about her moves, but she should be arriving in the next couple of weeks. The same can be said about Cyclops, but we know his kit is a good one. Cyclops’s charge attack is capable of taking out almost any enemy, so he is one to look out for.
