There is a lot to talk about regarding the immediate future of Marvel Strike Force. With growing questions surrounding traits and why do characters do or don’t have them, Foxnet has taken time out of their busy schedule to settle down the ramblings, for now. But that’s not all, there is plenty more coming our way and I will make it all clear in this article.

Fear The Darkness

The most unexpected announcement this week was that a player has finally conquered Fear The Darkness (FTD). Normally, events like these have traditionally had little effect on the community but this is a special occasion. The winner of FTD not only is the first player to get their hands on Ultron, but they get to decide what character the community will earn shards from.

This means players will earn 100 shards of whatever character Widowmaker (the winner of FTD) chooses. Lucky for us, Widowmaker was selfless and chose the premium character Captain Marvel. Therefore, starting on March 14th a special Widowmaker calendar will be introduced for two weeks. This calendar will feature Captain Marvel shards and other goodies, so don’t forget to log in!

Traits

This week we also saw Foxnet spill the beans on how they assign certain characters traits. What we now know is its no easy job assigning traits to characters, in fact, every character is heavily debated amongst the developers before any trait is or is not added.

There are two subjective criteria that are considered before they apply a trait.

1) Is it a defining characteristic of the character?

2) Does it make for interesting strategic choices?

The first point explains why some characters do not have traits as these traits are not their defining characteristic. Foxnet also explains that they want to avoid an overlap of traits wherever possible. They highlight that Dr Doom’s powers have both technological and mystical features plus “Just about everyone has been an Avenger at some point!”

What we can take from this is that Foxnet decides about traits using two key considerations. The first consideration is the Marvel Universe, including all comic books and literature. Does it make sense for Deadpool to have a military trait? Not really, because most mercenaries have a military background anyway and Deadpool doesn’t really suit a well-drilled military demeanour.

The second consideration for their traits is arguably more important than the first, which is how will it affect gameplay. They explain the reason Punisher isn’t classed as military as game balancing. Rather than introducing Captain Marvel who synergizes well with military characters and having the community complain that this combination is overpowered.

Foxnet will see how Captain Marvel impacts the community, plus how the game plays once they include the War game mode. Essentially, it’s in our best interest they make these considerations before introducing game-changing combinations.

What have I got to look forward to?

Besides introducing Captain Marvel, the War game mode and one-day double drops for Black Panther and Doctor Strange, we have Blitz and Raids to look forward too. Plus a store update has now included a row of orange gear materials for tier 12 and 13.

There will be a War Machine Blitz where players can earn Milestone and Blitz rewards, meaning players will have a second chance at War Machine. A S.T.R.I.K.E Raid featuring Miles Morales also returns, where players will face off against Ultimus’ toughest allies. Lastly, with the introduction of a War Machine Blitz, Iron Man’s legendary event also returns where players can grab Iron Man shards with a S.H.I.E.L.D team.

So as always, there is plenty to look forward to in Marvel Strike Force and we at Gamezebo will keep you up to date.
