Mario Kart Tour’s New Year’s Tour has kicked off, and with it a bunch of challenges that you can complete to earn Grand Stars, which, in turn, provide you with a bunch of rewards as you progress throughout the Tour.

We want to help you complete the challenges as quickly as possible, so we’ve included a list of them below along with instructions on how to complete them.

Mario Kart Tour New Year’s Tour Challenges List

Tour Challenges 2

  • Do 20 Jump Boosts: Complete the Do Jump Boosts challenge in the Koopa Troopa Cup to make this challenge a lot easier.
  • Land 5 hits with Red Shells: Use a glider with the Red Shell Plus Special Skill with a driver on their favoured course to make this challenge a lot easier.
  • Hit a kadomatsu with an item 5 times: Kadomatsu are a brand new decoration in Mario Kart Tour that look a bit like a decorated tree. You can find them on most maps, so this challenge shouldn’t be too difficult. Simply hit them with a projectile like a shell, fire flower, or boomerang.
  • Earn a score of 6,000 or higher using a Koopaling driver: Play as a Koopaling driver on their favoured course. Koopaling drivers include:
    • Iggy
    • Larry
    • Lemmy
    • Ludwig
    • Morton
    • Roy
    • Wendy
  • Land 10 hits on opponents with Bob-ombs using a driver with a mustache: This challenge is easiest with Mario (Happi) and a glider with the Bob-omb Plus Special Skill. You can perform it over numerous races. Drivers with mustaches include:
    • Mario
    • Luigi
    • Wario
    • Waluigi
    • Metal Mario
    • Mario (Musician)
    • Mario (Hakama)
    • Mario (Santa)
    • Mario (Happi)
    • Waluigi (Bus Driver)
  • Take out 5 Sidesteppers: Sidesteppers are crabs, and you can find them on Koopa Troopa Beach and Cheep Cheep Lagoon. Take them out by driving into them or using a projectile item against them.
  • Pick up 5 dropped mushrooms using a driver with a ribbon: This is easiest with Peachette, who can fire a bunch of dropped mushrooms out of a cannon. Drivers with ribbons include:
    • Wendy
    • Birdo
    • Peachette
  • Get a Fantastic combo a total of 10 times: A Fantastic combo is a combo of at least nine different actions. You can perform this over numerous races so just let it complete in the background.
  • Clear all of the cups in the New Year’s Tour: Finish every single race and challenge in the New Year’s Tour. You don’t have to get five stars in every single one.

Tour Challenges 1

  • Do 3 Rocket Starts: You can perform this over numerous races. Simply tap and hold the screen as soon as the 2 appears onscreen just before the race to perform a Rocket Start.
  • Collect a total of 100 coins: You can perform this over numerous races. To make this easier, use a driver with the Coin Box Special Skill and a glider with Coin Plus.
  • Land 10 hits with Bananas: You can perform this over numerous races. Use a driver with Triple Banana or Giant Banana Special Skill and a glider with Banana Plus.
  • Use Lightning: Use a glider with Lightning Plus and try and sit back in eighth place to increase your chances of getting Lightning.
  • Earn a score of 8,000 or higher on a T course: A T course is easy to find – it has a T at the end of the name. It’s basically a tricky variant of the usual course, so it should actually be fairly easy to get a score of 8,000 or higher provided you perform tricks at every opportunity.
  • Get 1st place in a race 3 times in a row: Play on 50cc to make this challenge a lot easier.
  • Earn a score of 5,000 or higher using a driver wearing gloves: Try and use a driver, glider, and kart on its favoured course to ensure you get a high enough score. Drivers wearing gloves include:
    • Dry Bones
    • Mario
    • Princess Peach
    • Daisy
    • Luigi
    • Wario
    • Waluigi
    • Metal Mario
    • Peachette
    • Mario (Musician)
    • Mario (Hakama)
    • Mario (Santa)
    • Daisy (Holiday Cheer)
    • Pauline (Party Time)
    • Mario (Happi)
    • Waluigi (Bus Driver)
  • Take out 3 Thwomps: You’ll find Thwomps on Bowser’s Castle levels. To take them out, hit them with an item like Bowser’s Shell or Bullet Bill, or drive into them while you’re in Frenzy Mode.
  • Hit a kadomatsu with an item 3 times in a single race: Kadomatsu is a traditional Japanese New Year’s decoration that you’ll find on the new Tokyo Blur 2 track and its R and T variants. Use a driver with a Special Skill like Triple Green Shells, Triple Red Shells, or Double Bob-ombs – anything that’s a projectile.

Gold Challenges

  • Do 20 Ultra Mini-Turbo boosts: You can perform this over numerous races. Drift until the sparks under your kart turn pink to perform an Ultra Mini-Turbo boost.
  • Use a Bullet Bill 3 times: You can perform this over numerous races. To make it easier, use a glider with the Bullet Bill Plus Special Skill and try and sit in eighth place to increase your chances of getting a Bullet Bill.
  • Get 1st place in a 200cc race 3 times: You can perform this over numerous races. Just play in 200cc mode until this is completed.
  • Land 3 hits with Green Shells in a single race: Use a driver with the Triple Green Shells Special Skill and a glider with Green Shell Plus and play on a long course to make this challenge easier.
  • Earn a score of 9,000 or higher using a driver with a hat: Play with an eligible driver on their favoured courses to increase your chances of getting a high score, and try and finish first. Drivers with a hat include:
    • Baby Mario
    • Baby Luigi
    • Mario
    • Luigi
    • Diddy Kong
    • Wario
    • Waluigi
    • Red Koopa (Freerunning)
    • Metal Mario
    • Mario (Musician)
    • Rosalina (Halloween)
    • Peach (Vacation)
    • Mario (Santa)
    • Toad (Party Time)
    • Shy Guy (Pastry Chef)
    • Waluigi (Bus Driver)
    • Gold Koopa (Freerunning)
  • Cause an opponent to crash while gliding: The easiest way to complete this challenge is to save a Red Shell for when you glide and fire it at the driver in front of you when gliding.
  • Land 5 hits with fireballs: You can perform this over numerous races. Drivers with fireballs include:
    • Mario
    • Luigi
    • Red Koopa (Freerunning)
    • Metal Mario
    • Mario (Santa)
  • Get 1st place without crashing: Play on 50cc and hold onto protective items. It might be worth turning off Auto-items for the purposes of this challenge.
  • Glide a total distance of 5,000: This can be performed over numerous races. This isn’t a particularly difficult challenge, so just work on it in the background.
