Welcome to Gamezebo’s strategy guide for Lost City of Z.

General Gameplay

This is primarily a hidden object game with a few puzzles and some wildlife snapshot opportunities.
A list of objects to find is at the bottom of the screen. Generally when the first list of objects is completed, another list will come into view.
There are sometimes additional areas to investigate within a scene. They are generally indicated by sparkles. When you move your cursor over one of these areas your cursor will become a magnifying glass and you can click to get a close up view of the area. The items to find in these areas are on your list at the bottom of the screen.
The photos of the wildlife are available to use as wallpaper on your computer. You can choose them from your diary during the game and from the main menu when the game is completed.
The Lost City of Z soundtrack is also available to download to your computer. Click on the small music note on the main menu to access this feature.

The Diary

In the first scene you get a diary and it will be located on the lower left corner of the screen.
The diary contains the story journal entries and you can scroll back and read it during the game.
The diary also includes a section for the wildlife photos that you take in the jungle. You can scroll back and look at them during the game.

Special items in your backpack

Some of the lists have one item shown in yellow print. This item needs to be photographed to remove it from the list. Use the camera in your backpack and center it on the wildlife and click your mouse to take the picture.
As you progress in the game you will receive a telephoto lens for your camera. This lens will magnify a small area and allow you to find the wildlife easier.
The camera lens can also be used to magnify any area of the scene and can be useful in finding some of the hidden objects. Unfortunately it cannot be used to click on any of the items other than the designated wildlife.
You will receive a knife and a machete to cut through vines.
You will receive several flashlights to help you find items in dark scenes. The flashlights will only work in the scenes designated by the game.
You will receive night vision goggles to help you find items in dark scenes. The goggles will only work in the scenes designated by the game.

Hints

You can click on an item in the list of items to find and see a non-color image of it on your small GPS screen in the lower right corner.
While an item’s image is on the GPS screen you can click the Hint Button just below the screen to get the location of the item. The Hint is in the form of a sonar sweep or sonar beep and is shown for a very limited time. The item should be located within the radius of the sonar signal.
Hints are unlimited but must recharge after each use. They recharge rather quickly.

There is a Skip button for all of the mini-games.

Location 1: Airplane Base Camp

Click on each of the coordinates that are listed on the right to follow Abby’s trail. Please look at the screen shot to see the marked trail.

Location 3: Abby’s Abandoned Jeep

Task – Search Abby’s tent

Task – Take a picture of the Emerald Snake

Use your camera to take a picture of the Emerald Snake that is wrapped around the tree branch in the upper center of the scene.

Task – Solve the stones puzzle to find a clue

Fill the grid with the stones so that each of the rows and columns contain each symbol only once. Please look at the screen shot to see the solved puzzle. When the puzzle is solved the stones will move to reveal a clue from Colonel Fawcett.

Location 6: Jungle Destruction

Task – Search the jungle destruction area

Gather the items on the list. You will find a flashlight that will go to your inventory. You will find a battery that will help your GPS charge up faster. Please look at the screen shot to see the location of the items on the list.

Location 8: Behind the Waterfall – Tree Trunk

Task – Look inside the tree Use your knife to cut away the vines at the hollow of the tree. Click on the sparkling hollow of the tree to get a close up view. Use your flashlight to find the cog inside the tree trunk.

Task – Look under the vines

Click on the sparkling vines in the upper center of the scene to get a close up view. Use your knife to cut away the vines until your knife goes away to reveal the letter Z. Click on the letter Z and your list of items will slide aside to reveal the Z cog. Put the Z cog in the center of the round stone carving to reveal a passageway.

Location 10: Inside the Dark Cave

Task – Search for items inside the cave

You will need to use your flashlight to search inside the cave. Gather the items on the list. You will find 7 keys that you will need for a puzzle. Please look at the screen shot to see the location of the items on the list.

Task – Match the keys to the correct lock

Click and drag each key to the keyholes and match the size and configuration of the key tip to the lock. Please look at the screen shot to see the correct key for each lock.

Task – Rotate the keys to realign the stone carving

Turn each key until the picture is aligned correctly. Please look at the screen shot to see the solved puzzle.

Location 11: Camp by the River

Location 15: Helicopter Crash Site

Task – Cut away the vines

You must cut away the vines before you can click on any of the items in this scene.

Use Col. Fawcett’s machete from your backpack to cut away the vines so you can get to the crash site. Please look at the screen shot to see where to click the point of the machete.

Location 16: Campsite with Injured Boy

Task – Search the area for items
Gather the items on the list. You will collect a cotton swab, a vial and a cloth to help heal the boy. Please look at the screen shot to see the location of the items on the list.

Task – Put the three items in the first aid kit

Put the vial, cotton swab and cloth into the first aid kit on the right of the scene.

Task – Heal the bites on the boy’s arm

Use the cloth and rub the area around a bite until there is no more redness. Quickly get the cotton swab and apply the tip to the dark bite mark to heal the bite. Repeat this procedure until all the bites are healed.

Location 17: Campsite by the River

Location 19: Inside Lit Cave

Task – Place the 5 torches in the holders

Place the torches in the wall torch holders with the matching color. Place them in this order: Pink, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow. The cave will be illuminated.

Click on the sparkling door to go inside the temple. You need your Night Vision Goggles from your backpack to search this area. Gather the items on the list and find Abby. Task – Heal the bites on the Abby’s arm
Use the cloth and rub the area around a bite until there is no more redness. Quickly get the cotton swab and apply the tip to the dark bite mark to heal the bite. Repeat this procedure until all the bites are healed.
