  • A good strategy for getting all the tiles to fit properly is to place them in such a way as to create diagonal lines of color. (See screenshot.)

  • Pick a side (left or right) and try to fill it in as solidly as possible, moving slowly across the board.
  • When the Punks (whose tiles are reversed) arrive in later levels, try to group them all to one side to form diagonals running the opposite way instead of trying to mix them in with the other tiles.
  • Jokers are great to use in the middle of a group of tiles, or in cross-shaped junctions where they can form a centre to match with all blocks around them.
  • You should never have two Jokers touching – it’s a waste of a very powerful tile.
  • Try to create a solid foundation using as many “core” tiles (generic girl guest, professors) before you bring in Jokers and Surfer Girls. Just pile Jokers and Surfer Girls on an unused side of the board until you need them.
  • There are only a small number of places on the board where Hermits can fit (since they can only touch one other tile). Place them into their correct positions as early on as possible, then fit other tiles around them. This is easier than trying to squeeze Hermits in after you’ve already filled a lot of the board.
  • If you’re stuck, try swapping a Girl Guest or Professor with a Surfer Girl of the same color. This will free up the Surfer Girl whose ability to change color might allow her to fit into the spot that’s making you stuck.
  • When placing the Surfer Girl, take her tile and hold it on top of the space you want her to fit into. This will help you to better judge when the time is right to drop her. Simply wait until her colors line up with those of the other tiles around the space, then drop.
  • Remember: the level ends when you drop the last tile, so make sure everything is perfect before you release it!
  • Never make the Surfer Girl your last drop to end a level. There’s a chance that her tile might rotate into the wrong colors just before you drop her, meaning you’ll have to start the level all over again.
