Quick Start Guide

Getting Started:

Legacy of Heroes

  • Legacy of Heroes is a free-to-play game on Kongregate.com.  To access the game, you can either click the “Play Now” button at the top of the page, or for future reference type “http://www.kongregate.com” on your Internet browser of choice.  On repeat visits, you will have to use the site’s search feature to find the game (by typing in its title) or finding it highlighted on the front page. (EDITOR NOTE: If this is not content specific to Kongregate or is otherwise unnecessary, please remove the web site explanation)

Legacy of Heroes

  • Creating Your Hero: When you first sign on you will find this character creation screen. Here you will select your character’s name, pick their sex, and other physical characteristics.

Legacy of Heroes

  • After you create your character you will be transported to the first section of the game.  Legacy of Heroes is a very guided single-player experience where you enter stages, beat all the AI opponents, and then move onto another stage to defeat more AI opponents.
  • Now let’s get into the game!

How to Play:

Legacy of Heroes

  • Here is the game’s battle screen. Let’s go over the basic interface
  • Life Points: If you look in the top right of the picture, you will see two icons followed by two numbers. The left number is the cards available to use, followed by the number of cards used.  The object of the game is to get your opponent’s cards available (left number) down to zero, which means that they are dead.
  • Active Cards: The three cards active on your screen are the cards you can attack with.  Clicking on the cards will zoom them in for some additional notes (though, there will be shorthand on the card for the essentials) and/or to play the card.
  • Level Bar:  The bottom left of the image shows how close you are to leveling.  After each battle, you will gain experience, regardless of you winning or not (obviously a win equates to more experience).
  •  Critical Strikes: Occasionally, your attacks will “roll critical”, which is a fancy way to say that you will get an attack bonus based on a dice roll.  These attacks add 50% to your base attack and only apply to whole numbers.  So, if you attack with a 2-3 attack strength card, you will earn one additional attack point

  • Attack and Defense:  If you look at the cards, you will see a number followed by a red arrow and then a number followed by a blue arrow.  The red arrow signifies attack, while the blue number signifies defense.  In this scenario, I have cards that all deal two damage but have no defense.  When I attack the opposing player, it deals two damage, and adds zero defense to my character in anticipation for my opponent’s attack.  So, for example, if my character was a +2/+1 and my opponent attacked with a +1/+0, I would not have any damage done to me.
  • Active Effects:  Certain cards will have “active effects” as a result of casting them.  For example, I have a card that will make martial attacks have +1 damage for the remainder of the game.  Keep this in mind when casting attacks, as this can give you an upper hand in besting foes!
  • Card Styles: There are a number of different cards styles that you will want to be aware of: fire, martial and recovery.  These cards will tie into the battle styles that you will select later in the game, which will enhance attacks based on the style path that you choose.

  • Recovery: Recovery is a great survival tool.  Cards that have recovery like the one above are critical to stay in the fight.  So for the example above, this card will “recover 4”, which means that four of your cards will be shuffled back into your deck.  In other words, these are healing cards.

  • Leveling and Energy:  With every level earned, you will gain increased “energy” as well as skill points.  Energy is drained after every battle.  After a certain amount of battles in a specific time frame, you will be all out of energy and have to purchase more or simply wait.  More levels, equates to more battling time!

Legacy of Heroes

  • Teammates: Not every fight that you have will be alone.  Take note when you have teammates and plan your attacks according to their play style for maximum damage!

Legacy of Heroes

  • Battle Style: There are four battle styles for you to choose from.  The battle style that you choose will determine what kind of cards that you choose for your decks.  Firesculptors will obviously want cards that deal fire damage, while Strongcharms will want to have cards that have martial attacks.  Non-stop deals with combo attacks and devastating offense, while recovery is more of a war of attrition style (making your opponent use a bunch of cards, rather than having much offensive attack).

Legacy of Heroes

  • Deck Building: Soon after you clear the starting area and you select your play style, you will be given some new cards by your class trainer, along with a couple of card packs to bust open.  Once you open these cards you can go to the “Deck” option in the bottom right of the game.  Here you will see two tabs.  The first is your active deck, and the other is your “collection”, which are all the cards that you have at your disposal.  The deck that you build should house cards that complement the class that you have chosen.  So, don’t go heavy in recovery if you are a Firesculptor—that’d just be silly!

Legacy of Heroes

  • Store: Included in the store are packs and equipment. Packs give you additional cards, while equipment gives you bonuses in combat.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Once you are out of the initial level battles, make sure you build your deck.  The game defaults to not having you house your maximum amount of cards in your deck.  Remember, the amount of cards in your deck signifies the amount of life you have.  More cards means more life.
  • Build your deck to your style.  Crossing styles does you no good.
  • Space out your game time. If you don’t want to spend coins to replenish energy, just play occasionally throughout the day.  Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Congratulations!
