How to Play

UI: Here is the basic user interface for the game. Let’s walk through what everything means.
Tasks: Tasks are essentially your quest list. In the game, you’ll be tasked with building new types of buildings, roads and decorations, as well as building up an army and attacking other areas. These tasks are a way to keep you progressing in the game and give you a sense of direction, rather simply trying to learn what you need on your own.
Coins: In the top left, you’ll see a gold coin. Gold coins is the base currency in the game, where you can buy most essential buildings, roads and so on with.
Crystals: Next to the coins are crystals. Crystals are the game’s premium currency where you can purchase more elaborate buildings, army types and so on and so forth. You can purchase crystals for real cash or earn them slowly in game.
Energy: Next to crystals is energy. Every action that you take drains energy, and when you run out you have to purchase more or waiting for time to pass and restock.
Level: The shield next to energy is your leveling bar. Every level earns you crystals and opens up new building types and soldier types for use in the game.

Settler Icons: If you look at your city, you will see pop-ups from various characters of your cities. Clicking these icons is another way to start your quests, outside of the task bar that was previously talked about.
Shop: The shop icon is where you can purchase a bevy of different buildings, decorations and other items. Below is a shot of expansion, which allows you to purchase more land for expanding your city. Like many other items, it comes in two flavors—coins (free) and crystals (cash).

Lottery: The lottery is a great way to get additional army units, buildings and so on. As you can see in the above screenshot, it comes in three different flavors. Bronze is always free, silver is costs two crystals and gold five. Each lottery has its own set of prizes that you can win, which are determined by a set of one-on-one battle dice rolls. You have one unit who fights a string of enemies and for every battle you win you earn a higher prize. If the name wasn’t any indication, there is no way to guarantee better luck in these fights—you just have to hope for the best as your fighter goes along. It is advisable that you play the free lottery as much as possible to help build you’re army. It is free, after all.

Building types: Let’s go over a few basic building types and what they do. Above is a barracks, where you can create and train your army. Some other types of buildings are homes, which determine your population size, resource units like sawmills and farms help gather wood and food for your kingdom. Building every type as they come available to you will afford you advantages in battle.

Battle system: Above is the basic setup of every battle you will have in Kingdom & Lords. On the far side are enemy units, with the number next their bodies representing their health points. Down at the bottom of the screen are your selectable units.
Placing Units Strategically: There are two “lines” of battle: front and back. The front line is for units that are stronger defensively, whereas the back units are for stronger offensive units that are vulnerable defensively. The front line shields them against attack, making direct attacks from enemy units less effect than if you placed them on the front line. Taking stock of your units’ relative strengths and weaknesses prior to battle is critical to combat success in the game.

Arrows: After you’ve placed units and you’re deciding who you are going to attack with a particular unit, take note of the arrows next to the enemy units. It will be coded either red or green, with green meaning that the enemy unit is vulnerable to that particular friendly unit’s attack. For example, horsemen are given attack bonuses for attacks on ground units. Use this to your advantage when fighting. Luckily you won’t have to memorize which units do the most damage to what unit prior to combat—this is turn-based and goes unit by unit, so you should not have a hard time doling out your most efficient damage.

Collectibles: Both in combat as well as when you are in your city, there are various collectables that you can pick up. In combat, when kill units you will see both the above shield and coin icons. Tapping these icons will give you gold (coins) and experience (shield). Additionally, you will get these icons in your city when food has been produced at a farm, wood is available in a sawmill, and so on and so forth. Staying on top of your buildings and gathering your resources will help you quickly expand your city and your army’s strength.

Other Cities: This is an online-connected game which allows you to fight other players. The above screenshot shows you two NPC cities (Shaara/Lisa) with their level, your city in the middle and its level, and then the other to battle at random and having friend’s cities accessible as well. The game allows you to search for Twitter, Facebook and Gameloft friends to play the game with.
