KartRider: Drift – How To Drift Guide

Here we’ll try and tackle every topic you need to know on drifting.

What Is Drifting?

Drifting is a mechanic in KartRider: Drift where you do a controlled skid on a corner. This lets you turn tighter and complete the corner faster than you would steering it in the normal way. The downside is that you risk oversteering completely and turning your kart fully in the wrong direction.

How Do I Drift?

Drifting can be started by hitting the drift button while turning. You will initially need to turn into the corner as you start, and then hit the opposite directional button to correct your course part of the way through. If the corner is tight you may need to let go of the accelerator as you hit the corner. If your drift was long enough, you’ll be able to let go of the accelerator at the end of the drift and press it down again for a small speed boost.

Do I Need To Bother With Drifting?

You don’t always need to drift to win races, but it’s definitely a useful skill to have, especially in Speed Mode. While the boost you get from a properly-handled drift is a pretty small one, it also massively speeds up the recharge of your Nitro boosts in Speed Mode, so it’s well worth getting used to. You will also need to use it to complete several license challenges to unlock new tracks.
