How to Play – Essentials

Time Freeze: The entire game will have you chopping up logs. How do you go about doing this? With logging-cutting time, of course! It is essentially a simplified version of bullet-time in a first-person shooter. Each level has its own stage. Think Fruit Ninja, only without the same frenetic/endless pace. As the logs fall onto the screen, touching the screen freezes their fall allowing you to chop them up.

Chopping Wood: Here is an example of a set-up that you might see early on in the game. You chop wood at the ends, not in half, dragging your finger across the screen. As you can see in the picture above, note the white lines that show the paths that I have taken through the logs. You have to go end-to-end horizontally rather than simply chopping through the logs vertically or diagonally.

Maple Finish: In certain stages, there are “Maple Finishes.” These add extra log cutting stages that can help you add points and help boost you to that silver or gold finish. When these come up, however, it is good practice to leave these for last. Focus on clearing out the current logs before you think about the next!

Straight Shots: In addition to Maple Finishes, there are also “straight shots” that can help boost your scores. When you line up two logs horizontally and can swipe them in a straight line you get a 25 point bonus for doing so. To get gold rankings on many of the stages, getting these straight shots is absolutely essential.

Types of Logs

Direction Logs: Certain logs must be chopped in a specific direction. When you put your finger down to start cutting the logs, they will have the above arrows on them. Trying to cut against the direction will result in a failed attempt.

Number of Cuts: Certain logs require you to cut them more than once. You can cut these at either ends, so you can just zip into one end and back to get them out of the way quickly. Obviously if it is beneficial to do so, do not simply zig-zag back and forth if you have an opportunity for a straight shot.

Time Freeze Logs: The log with the clock on it is a time freeze. With stages that have numerous logs like the one pictured above, there are times where you will need to chop up a number of logs and then chop the time freeze log to give yourself more time to get through the rest of the logs in the set.
Multipliers: With every successful log cut that you make, you earn a multiplier. The multiplier does not continue through each log stage—every new set of logs to cut resets the multiplier. Additionally, every failure within a log set reset the multiplier. Obviously, if you don’t screw up—the higher the multiplier and the higher your score will be.

World Map: Each of the dots in the above picture is a stage in the game. Each stage gives you 1-3 stars, so long as you pass the point minimum. Each level (or world) has a set number of stars that you need to have until you can move into the next world.

Errands: There are three constant goals for you to try to complete as you play the game. Each has you doing a variety of tasks that you either accomplish completely naturally, or have to alter your play to complete. Completing a task creates a new one for you to complete, and earns you a stack of “logs” (the game’s currency) to spend in the store.

Store:

Granny’s Cupboard: As you cut logs and complete errands, you will accrue log points that you can spend in the store—Granny’s Cupboard. Here you can purchase various “syrups” that will make the game a bit easier and cover your mistakes. Here you can also purchase beards that up that make your score multiplier better. Each beard helps equally, in terms of adding multipliers, but you can stack many of them to increase that multiplier (One beard = 2x starting multiplier, Two beards = 3x starting multiplier, etc.). Alternatively, you don’t want to go through all the trouble of actually playing the game, you can pay real-life money to get a fat stack of logs deposited into your account.

Tips and Tricks:

Patience: Don’t immediately put your finger down. It’s easy to get eager and simply start your freeze too early. You only get one freeze per log set, so if you do it too early and you’ve still got a log coming in the corner, it might not get into full view before you time runs out. An extra half second will allow all the logs into play and won’t take away from your score in the slightest.
Store: Buy the beards to increase your multiplier. Straight shots aren’t necessarily something you can bank on in certain stages to get you to the gold stars—having a multiplier boost will help push a respectable score up and allow you to open up more stages quicker.
