How to Play:

iMech Online

  • Main Screen: When you first enter iMech Online, you’ll be greeted by the following screen.  This is where you’ll select the mech and weapons you want to use for combat, enter into games, purchase new mechs and upgrades, and more.
  • Currency: In the top right hand corner of the screen, you’ll see at a glance the amount of coins and gold that you have at your disposal. You’ll earn both as you play games and level up, and much like every other freemium game available for download, you’ll also have the option to buy coins and gold so you can immediately buy better mechs and weapons for use in the game.

  • Movement: Let’s walk through the basic mechanics of the game.  When you’re dropped in, movement is governed by the two sticks in the bottom left and right hand corners.  The left stick controls the base of the mech, while the right stick controls the top/weapons.   You cannot treat the control setup like a first-person shooter.  When running to meet your opponent’s mech, use the left stick to get into position.  Once in position and engaged in combat, then use the right stick to unleash damage.  If you try to move and shoot to move around, especially when you first start the game, you’ll really have a hard time navigating and you’ll be fighting with the controls.
  • Weapon Selection: You’ll have three basic weapons to choose from when starting out.  The first is a machine gun, which will spray fire into your opponent from a distance and has a decent spread, but does not do a whole lot of damage.  The flamethrower is devastating up close, but completely ineffective at any sort of range.  Finally, you have the plasma cannons, which do considerable damage but don’t cover as much area as a machine gun or fire as much ordinance.  To choose any one of these weapons, all you need to do is tap the screen to quickly move from one to the other.  There’s no reloading or wait times between switching weapons.  A lot of the game and your success, aside from navigating your mech and having good aim with your shots, comes down to being smart about selecting which weapons you use and when.  If you’re facing someone that is coming at you with a flamethrower, for example, it is wise to back up and return fire with the plasma cannon.  If they continue to chase and don’t switch weapons, you’ll destroy them before they can even touch you.  Never commit to a weapon—use the one that suits the situation of the fight. Short means flamethrower, medium means plasma cannon and long means machine gun.
  • Health and Shield: On the left hand side of the screen is your shield and health bars.  The shield is indicated by blue, and green is health.  Once the shield is depleted, you’re then open to losing health.  Shields recharge over time, so if you’re in a losing fight, there’s no shame in turning your tail and hiding from your opponent momentarily while your shield recharges. It’ll give you time to regroup and maybe get the drop on them!
  • Radar: The radar in the top left hand corner is essential.  There’s no way for opponents to hide, so always keep an eye on the radar so you’re not being attacked from behind and making for an easy kill.  You can also use this as a guide to hunt your opponents.

  • Statistics: If you’re curious to how you’re fairing in kills, there’s the bar graph icon in the top left hand corner of the screen.  Once selected, it will bring you to the stats overlay screen showed above.  You can still navigate with your mech with the overlay—to remove, select the back arrow in the top left corner.
  • Special Move: Each mech will have a special move that you can use.  In the case of this mech, it has an arm that can grab opponents and put them facing you from behind, so you can unload on them until they get their bearings.  You have to have them in your sights in order for the attack to be successful, however, so none of these special attacks are cure-alls for poor play!

iMech Online

  • Store: In the store, you’ll be able to purchase mechs and upgrades for them.  In the store they will show you various stats about the mech—health and shield points, what weapons their armor is better suited to defend against, and so on.

  • After-Battle: After you’ve completed a round of the game, it will show you a screen with your final statistics, how many coins and experience points you’ve earned, and the ability to jump right into a new game.

  • Tech Upgrades: With each level that you earn, you’ll earn one tech point.  Tech points can be used on any of your mechs to upgrade their weapons, armor and other factors.  With tech points being so scarce, you’ll have to decide early on what mech works best for you, and it would be advantageous to stick with that mech and use the tech upgrades to make it more powerful in combat.

  • Mech Upgrades: From the store, you can purchase various upgrades to your mech.  These are installed and have offensive and defensive bonuses—such as being resistant to certain attacks or having weapons cause more damage to your opponents.
