The Deer is the main antagonist of 99 Nights, the primary suspect in the kidnapping of the four children, and a pseudo-god to the aggressive forest cultists.
It visits your camp on the first night, standing at a distance and watching the embers of your campfire flicker before regressing into the forest. Your first two nights are safe, and the deer will not attack you outside of your camp; however, by the third night, its distaste for your presence becomes known, and it will begin hunting you at night.
In short, no. The Deer (and Owl) are unkillable antagonists that exist to progress the game’s lore, and hunt any stragglers who don’t huddle around the campfire at night. If the fire goes out at night during poor weather, the deer will close in, attempting to kill any players. So, can you defend yourself and at least damage the Deer?
