After some trials and tribulations involving Apple’s certification process, Google Stadia, the big G’s game streaming service is finally available for iOS. It’s not an app though, which means getting it to work is a little bit more complex.

That’s why we’ve written this guide. It’ll walk you through the process of getting Stadia working on your iPhone or iPad. All you’re going to need is a Stadia account. We’d recommend a controller as well – the touchscreen overlays are fine, but they’re not the best way to experience the AAA games Stadia has to offer.

When you’re ready, jump to step one and in no time flat you’re going to be playing some of the biggest games in the world on your smartphone or tablet. Which is pretty darn cool.

First up, you’re going to want to head over to the Google Stadia website on safari. You can do that by clicking here, or by typing stadia.google.com into your browser manually.

That’s going to take you to a log in page. If you’ve already got a Stadia account, go ahead and sign in. If not, you’ll need to sign up for one. You’re going to need a credit or debit card, but you’ll get a free month of Stadia Pro and can cancel whenever you want.

Add to Your Homepage

Once you’ve gone through the sign-in process, you’ll be taken to the Stadia homepage. You’re going to want to make a shortcut to get their quickly, so tap the share button on your browser.

Scroll down the options and tap on Add to Home Screen. This will take you to a page showing you what the icon is going to look like. Tap on the Add button in the top right corner and the bookmark will be on your homescreen the next time you look.

You can move it around the same way you would any icon, checking the page it’s on or sticking it in a folder if you’d prefer. Deleting it is the same as deleting an app.

Add Your Controller

Adding a controller is different, depending on which device you’re using. For Bluetooth controllers, like the PS4 or Xbox One pad, add them in the same way you normally would by connecting them to your Bluetooth.

If you’ve got a Stadia controller, you’ll need to set it up and connect it to your WiFi network with the Stadia app first (click here to download the Stadia app from the App Store for free).

When you’ve done that, tap on the controller button on the main page and you’ll be given a code to input. That code is presses on the buttons of the Stadia controller. Tap it in and you’re good to go.

Get Some Games

Now it’s time to start playing. Scroll through the store to find the game you want to play and tap on it. Another button will appear, give that a poke and you should be playing within a matter of seconds.

Remember your Pro account gets you access to a bunch of free games. We’d suggest trying one of those first to make sure that the service is working to your liking before you spend any money

Potential Problems

Make sure that you’re running an iOS device updated up to iOS 14.3, otherwise Stadia isn’t going to work. You’ll get an error message every time you try and play a game if that’s the case, telling you that you need the latest version of Safari.

Make sure you’re using Safari as well. The service isn’t going to work on any third-party browsers as of yet.
