You reached Checkpoint 1 of this guide! Find out how many Checkpoints are in Drain the Lake in my player-made guide, as I tell you the Checkpoint count for each ending, and some tips and tricks on completing the game efficiently.

All Checkpoints provide the same amenities: two drains, one computer, and one Robux gamepass to drain litres from the lake instantly. This stronghold is what makes your campaign efficient when unlocking the several endings and completing the skill tree.

So, let’s get right into what you came for.

How Many Checkpoints Are in Drain The Lake

7 Checkpoints for the Finding Phone Ending, or 10 for the Treasure Ending.

To unlock the Phone Ending, you need to reach Checkpoint 8. Somewhere between Checkpoint 7 and Checkpoint 8, the phone will appear on a rock with a glowing particle effect, making it easy to spot. Grabbing the phone will end the session. If you continue, you can reach Checkpoint 10 and unlock the Secret Treasure Ending.

At Checkpoint 8, the shark is seen beached on the rocks, unable to follow the player further down. However, a new threat emerges… The angler fish deals increased stamina damage and attacks more swiftly than the shark, making it a little more challenging and parkour-intensive to reach Checkpoint 10 for the treasure ending.

Checkpoints

At each newly discovered Checkpoint, this becomes your new spawn point and primary station. This means pressing F to surface will bring you back to the new Checkpoint.

Before reaching a new Checkpoint, make sure you don’t have any leftover tokens waiting for you at your previous one (if you haven’t unlocked the auto-collection system yet).

The first Checkpoint is always the toughest to unlock, as you won’t have many skills to speed up the draining process. But don’t worry, as the game quickly picks up pace as you invest in your Skills.

Skill Tree

The Skill Tree is the MOST important part of your game. At the start, I recommend balancing your upgrades, beginning with a bigger bucket capacity and a quick drain. After this, prioritise steady hands, token gain, and finally player upgrades. (Plus misc, such as attack resilience, etc).

When draining the lake, press F to surface and quickly deposit your bucket before immediately rushing back to the waterline. Waiting for the drain to work, especially in the early game, takes so long, so it’s quicker to prepare your next bucket whilst it works. When you resurface, you can claim the Tokens and immediately drop off the next bucket.

Chests

There are usually 2 Chests between each Checkpoint (up to the phone ending). If you collect the second one, your next unlock will be the next Checkpoint. This is a good way to track your progress as you plunge deeper into the lake.

Chests are also good for gaining additional Tokens and Gems, helping you afford better upgrades (in-game) and buckets (post-game).

Hints

  • Fall damage:
    • There is no fall damage in the game, regardless of whether you land on a platform or in the water. Take advantage of this to skip the parkour down and jump straight to the waterline to scoop buckets quicker.
  • Checkpoint proximity:
    • If you’re close to a Checkpoint and have a full bucket, deposit it at the new Checkpoint and quickly finish draining it. A submerged Checkpoint is still usable, so long as you’re quick about it to avoid the predators.
