How long does it take for Crop Decay in Grow a Garden 2? Well, I’ve done some research to bring you an answer to this growing query. Jokes aside, I’ll tell you what crop decay is, how it impacts your garden, how to prevent it, and answer the main focus of this article.

Let’s get into it!

How Long Does It Take For Crop Decay in Grow a Garden 2?

Admittedly, I’m still testing this, but I have found some interesting developments.

It seems that crop decay is more RNG than time-specific. What I mean by this is that I’ve noticed some crops decay on the same day as they’re planted, whilst others stay fresh for several days. It seems all plants have this innate chance to decay from the moment they’re full-grown, but the chance is slim enough so that not all produce immediately goes bad.

Of course, this is research and speculation, so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt.

What Is Crop Decay?

When a fruit decays on the vine, you lose 80% of its initial selling value, retaining only 20% of what it’s worth.

This means that one-time harvest plants, such as Carrots, Tulips, and Bamboo, may be worth less than their seed price if decayed.

Is Crop Decay Reversible?

This is a lesser-known fact, but crop decay IS reversible! During rainy weather, or with the use of a watering can, you can restore decayed crops to their former glory, retaining their initial value.

That said, depending on which crops you own, this isn’t always an ideal, as the Watering Can costs $2,000, meaning the base value of the fully-developed crop may not turn a profit if you invest in the can to restore it. It all depends on your in-game progression, disposable funds, and which plants you have available in your garden.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the other crop mutations?

As of the Grow a Garden 2 release, we also have Gold (15x value), Rainbow (40x value), Frozen (5x value), and Electric (80x value).

Why do crops decay?

I’m not a DEV, but I’d imagine this happens as a hording preventative measure. The first GaG game became swollen with end-game players with a cluster of crops they never harvested because they were too rich to care, and there were no repercussions, meaning they could stack mutations indefinitely. Grow a Garden 2 seems to try to slow down this progression, which I personally think is a good change.

Can crops have multiple mutations?

Not from the looks of things, except base + weather/event mutation. Once a crop is mutated, it has developed its final price. This means it’s an RNG race against time to unveil a mutation before a crop decays.

Example: A crop can be Rainbow and Electric, but not Electric and Frozen.

How do I avoid crop decay?

Remember to harvest and sell your fully-grown crops as soon as they’re developed. It also helps to check on the game frequently and log in daily to harvest and sell.
