Hidden Mysteries: Notre Dame – Game Introduction

General Tips

Notre Dame: Secrets of Paris is a game that requires a fair amount of backtracking. As such, the order in which tasks can be completed in the game varies widely. This walkthrough has been written in such a way as to provide one of the easiest and most linear paths through the game possible. Locations have also been labeled in the guide, so hopefully navigating your way won’t be too confusing.
Key Items in the guide are capitalized (for example: Brochures or Journal Clues). INVENTORY ITEMS are written like so. All inventory items are circled in red in the guide below.
Hints in the game are unlimited, however they will require time to recharge and can only be used within hidden object scenes. There is no hint system for the main gameplay areas, and there are no clicking penalties.
Inventory items are displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can scroll through these items using the arrows on either side of the inventory bar.
To access the Menu at any time during gameplay, simply select “Menu” in the bottom left-hand corner.
The Journal, located in the lower left corner of the screen, will keep track of Clues you collect. These clues may be storyline-related, simply informative, or can even help you solve puzzles.
The Map, located in the lower right corner of the screen, will show you where you are and help you navigate more easily.
The Tasks button in the lower right corner of the screen will help you keep track of what you need to do.
Keep in mind, many puzzles and hidden object areas are randomized. Solutions and locations that remain concretely the same are outlined and shown in the guide below.

Chapter 1: The Red Bookmark

Plaza

Click on the sparkling hidden object area on the right.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Continue forward towards the church.

Church Entrance

There are a couple things you can choose to examine here, but nothing you can do for the moment. For now, enter the church.

Lobby

There are three Brochures on the left that you can pick up. Their locations are shown below.

Enter through the door on the right.

Treasury

Examine the case on the right. Use the GLASS CUTTER to cut a hole in the close-up display case, then click on the cushion inside to reveal the SUN PENDANT.

Return to the Church Entrance.

Church Entrance

Examine the circular tiles on the ground for a closer look.
Place the SUN PENDANT in the middle of the slab, then arrange the various pieces so that they’re back in their correct positions (shown below). Upon completing the puzzle, the Note will be revealed.

Continue to the right.

Rectory Street

For now, continue up the street to the next area.

Boat

Click on the Boat to enter a hidden object scene.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the CAR KEYS will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Church Entrance.

Church Entrance

Continue to the left.

Café

Use the CAR KEYS on the car on the right to open the trunk and reveal a hidden object scene.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the ICE PICK will be added to your inventory.
Before leaving the area, click on the PLATE to add it to your inventory.

Return to the Rectory Street.

Rectory Street

Proceed to the left (towards the Rectory).

Rectory

Click on the gate for a closer view. Click on the various letter segments until they form the word “Crown”. The solution is shown below.

Enter the Rectory.

Hallway

Take a closer look at the painting hanging on the left.
Click on the various painting strips to swap their locations and restore the painting to its original state. The solution is shown below.

Restoring the painting will trigger a new hidden object location over the fire grate below.

Upon completing the area, the STATUE PIECES 1/4 will be added to your inventory.
Continue forward into the Library.

Library

Click on the hidden object area over the stairs.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the RUE LETTERS will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Café.

Café

Take a closer look at the blue sign on the left. Use the RUE LETTERS on the sign to reveal a KEY.

A hidden object area will reappear over the car trunk.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the HEDGE CLIPPERS will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Church Lobby.

Lobby

Take a closer look at the main door. Use the KEY on the lock to open it and gain access inside.

Chapel Pulpit

Click on the hidden object area over the pulpit.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the PLAYING CARDS 1/4 will be added to your inventory.
Before exiting the area, use the ICE PICK on the crack in the pillar on the right to obtain the (purple) GLASS SHARDS 1/4.
Continue forward.

Main Chapel

From here, continue to the right.

Front Row

Click on the hidden object area on the right.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the STATUE PIECES 2/4 will be added to your inventory.
Continue forward.

Altar

Click on the hidden object area straight ahead over the altar.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the DOOR HANDLE will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Front Row, then continue to the right.

Garden Doors

Click on the hidden object area over the statue on the left.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the ROPE will be added to your inventory.
Continue to the right.

Lone Statue

Click on the Pamphlet sitting on the chair on the right.

Return to the Main Chapel.

Main Chapel

Continue to the left.

Confessionals

Examine the collection plate on the right, on the corner of the table. Use the PLATE from your inventory to trade and obtain the COLLECTION PLATE.

Return to the Rectory (Hallway).

Hallway

Proceed up the stairs on the right.

Upstairs Hall

Use the DOOR HANDLE on the door on the right to open it and gain access inside.

Living Quarters

Click on the pillow to move it and the cabinet to open it, revealing the CHAIN CUTTERS and the PLAYING CARDS 2/4. Click on them to add them to your inventory.

Exit and return to the Boat.

Boat

Use the ROPE on the object on the left in the water to obtain the STONE FLAG.

Return to the Lone Statue inside the church.

Lone Statue

Use the STONE FLAG on the statue. You will be rewarded with the RED BOOKMARK.

Chapter 2: The Blue Bookmark

Lone Statue

Return to the Plaza (where you started the game).

Plaza

Click on the hidden object area that has reappeared on the right.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the PLAYING CARDS 3/4 will be added to your inventory.
Proceed to the left.

Crypt Entrance

Use the CHAIN CUTTERS on the chain holding the “Closed” sign to gain access to the Crypt and proceed inside.

Crypt

Proceed straight ahead through the doorway in the middle of the room.

Wheelbarrow

Click on the hidden object area over the wheelbarrow.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the UTILITY KNIFE will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Crypt.

Crypt

Enter the room on the right.

Dig Site

Click on the hidden object area.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the LIGHT BULB will be added to your inventory.
Exit the Crypt and return to the Rectory Hallway.

Hallway

Click on the hidden object area over the fireplace on the left.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the RUBBER MALLET will be added to your inventory.
Continue up the stairs and enter the room on the right.

Living Quarters

Use the LIGHT BULB on the green lamp in the corner, then click on the statuette for a closer view. Note the symbol at the bottom.
Exit the room and proceed up the stairs to the Attic.

Attic

Use the UTILITY KNIFE on the larger painting in the middle of the room, then click on the clue that’s appeared to add it to your journal.

Examine the statuettes on the shelf. Click on the one with the matching symbol at the bottom (matching the statuette in the previous room) to add the STATUETTE to your inventory.

Return to the Crypt, to the room with the Wheelbarrow.

Wheelbarrow

Click on the hidden object area over the wheelbarrow.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the SHOVEL will be added to your inventory.
Use the STATUETTE on the stone slab in the middle of the room, then use the RUBBER MALLET to break it open, revealing the KEY.

Return to the other room: the Dig Site.

Dig Site

Use the SHOVEL on the soft area of dirt towards the upper right portion of the screen. Click on the STATUE PIECES 3/4 to add it to your inventory.

Click on the hidden object area over the dig site.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the PICK AXE will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Church Lobby.

Lobby

Take a closer look at the door on the left. Use the KEY to open it and proceed inside.

Stairwell Entrance

Continue up the stairs.

Stairwell

Ignore the window for now and continue upwards.

Esmeralda’s Cell

Click on the hidden object area in the middle of the room.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the DRY RAG will be added to your inventory.
Pick up the Brochure over the chair on the left before leaving the area.
Continue through the doors on the left.

Stone Hallway

Click on the hidden object area on the right.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the CHOPSTICKS will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Stairwell.

Stairwell

Take a closer look at the window on the left. Use the CHOPSTICKS to obtain the (yellow) GLASS SHARDS 2/4.

Continue back down to the Main Chapel.

Main Chapel

Continue “forward” (via the upwards arrow, not forward to the right) into the next area.

Marked Floor

Notice the symbols on the floor. Use the clue from your Journal to determine the correct tiles to click on: the solution is shown below. Upon solving the location of the four tiles, use the PICK AXE on the point where the lines cross to reveal and obtain the (green) GLASS SHARDS 3/4.

Return to the Front Row.

Front Row

Click on the hidden object area that has reappeared on the right.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the CHISEL will be added to your inventory.
Proceed right and return to the Garden Doors.

Garden Doors

Click on the hidden object area over the statue on the left.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the CANDLE SNUFFER will be added to your inventory.
Backtrack and return to the Altar.

Altar

Examine the large vase on the right. Use the CANDLE SNUFFER on the vase opening to retrieve the ROSARIES 1/4.
Return to the Boat.

Boat

Click on the hidden object area.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the PLAYING CARDS 4/4 will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Library within the Rectory.

Library

Use the PLAYING CARDS on the table on the right to trigger a puzzle.
Remove all the cards from the table by matching them, either via same rank or same suit. Click the reset button if necessary. There’s more than one possible solution, but a possible solution is shown below (matching colored frames mean a matching pair of cards):

Click on the Clue that appears on the back of one of the cards to add it to your Journal.
Click on the hidden object area over the stairs on the left.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the INK PEN will be added to your inventory.
Examine the Red Book (The Holy Bible) on the stand in the back between the stairs and the table. Use the RED BOOKMARK on the book to uncover a clue.
Return to the Chapel, to the Garden Doors.

Garden Doors

Click on the device locking the doors in the middle to take a closer look.
Arrange the roman numeral dials on the right and the left, then click on the corresponding number (according to the Clue in your Journal). There are four separate solution that must be input. They as as follows (refer to the numbers and cursor location in the screenshots to know which is which):

Upon completing the puzzle, the door will open. Proceed into the next area.

Fountain

Use the HEDGE CLIPPERS on the greyish-green bush to the left of the bench on the right. Click on the AXE to add it to your inventory.

Return to the Pulpit inside the Chapel.

Chapel Pulpit

Click on the hidden object area over the pulpit.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the SET OF KEYS will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Stone Hallway (up the stairs via the door on the left from the Lobby).

Stone Hallway

Examine the statue in the wall on the left. Use the CHISEL on the Stone Sword to obtain the STATUE PIECES 4/4.
Click on the hidden object area over the organ on the right.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the UMBRELLA will be added to your inventory.
Return to Esmeralda’s Cell.

Esmeralda’s Cell

Proceed through the door on the right.

Outer Walkway

Take a closer look at the gargoyle on the right. Use the UMBRELLA to remove the VALVE HANDLE from it’s mouth and add it to your inventory.
Take a closer look at the door on the left.
Use the SET OF KEYS on the door lock to trigger a puzzle.
Click on the various keys in the correct order in order to unlock the door. Solutions are randomized. Once you’ve unlocked the door, enter through it and into the next area.

Wooden Stairway

Click on the hidden object area on the wooden stairs.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the WOODEN KNOB will be added to your inventory.
Once you’ve completed the hidden object scene, use the AXE on the wooden boards on the left to reveal a hidden passage. Enter through it and into the next area.

Secret Study

Take a closer look at the writing desk. Use the INK PEN on the paper to scrawl a message and obtain the BLUE BOOKMARK.

Chapter 3: The Green Bookmark

Secret Study

Return to the Altar in the Chapel.

Altar

Examine the book stand on the left, across from the vase. Use the BLUE BOOKMARK on the book to obtain a clue.
Click on the hidden object area.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the ROSARIES 2/4 will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Fountain.

Fountain

Use the VALVE HANDLE on the pipes in the lower corner of the fountain to restore the flow of water. Use the DRY RAG on the fountain water to obtain the WET RAG.
Return to the Chapel Lobby.

Lobby

Use the WET RAG on the display case on the right to clear some of the dirt away. The coat of arms underneath won’t be completely visible, but a clue as to which belong with what country will be transcribed in your Journal.
Enter through the door on the left.

Stairwell Entrance

Examine the plaque on the left.
Click on the various shields (using the clue from your Journal) to swap their positions until all of them are in their correct locations. The solution is shown below.

Upon completing the puzzle, click on the (blue) GLASS SHARDS 4/4 that appears to add it to your inventory.
Return to the Confessionals.

Confessionals

Take a closer look at the seat of the open confessional on the left. Use the WOODEN KNOB to reveal a hidden compartment holding the FOUNDATION BRICK. Click on it to add it to your inventory.

Use the GLASS SHARDS on the stained glass window on the back wall to trigger a puzzle.
Arrange the colored tiles by clicking and swapping so that colors are bordering their same color: tile colors will be randomized. An example solution is shown below:

Your reward for completing the stained glass window puzzle will be the GREEN BOOKMARK.

Chapter 4: The Yellow Bookmark

Confessionals

Return to Esmeralda’s Cell.

Esmeralda’s Cell

Click on the hidden object area.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the CANDLESTICK will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Wooden Stairway.

Wooden Stairway

Click on the hidden object area.
Find the objects listed at the bottom of the screen. Objects are randomized. The Key Item has been circled and is shown below.

Upon completing the area, the CHEESE will be added to your inventory.
Return to the Stone Hallway.

Stone Hallway

Continue forward through the hallway and into the next area.

Storage Space

Use the CHEESE on the floor to lure the mouse away, then click on the GOBLET to add it to your inventory.

Before you leave this area, use the GREEN BOOKMARK on the green book on the right to obtain another clue.
Return to the Treasury.

Treasury

Take a closer look at the missing display to the left of the glass cases.
Use the COLLECTION PLATE, the GOBLET, and the CANDLESTICK on their correct locations to restore the display, then collect the ROSARIES 3/4 that appears in a secret compartment behind the gold bust to add it to your inventory.

Return outside to the Church Entrance.

Church Entrance

Examine the area of the church to the right of the entrance doors.
Use the STATUE PIECES on the statues to trigger a puzzle.
Place the correct pieces with the correct statues: the solution is shown below. Completing the puzzle successfully will reward you with the GREEN GEM.

Return to the Crypt.

Crypt

Take a closer look at the puzzle on the closed door on the left. Use the GREEN GEM on it to activate the puzzle.
Move all the green gems to the green side of the puzzle, and all the purple gems to the purple side. You may store gems in the two slots in the middle, or place them in the middle section. An example of a technique on how to complete this puzzle is shown below.

Once you’ve completed the puzzle, enter through the doorway that appears (to the left).

Foundation Room

Use the FOUNDATION BRICK on the empty slot in the back wall. Your reward will be the YELLOW BOOKMARK.

Chapter 5: Recovering the Crown

Foundation Room

Return to Esmeralda’s Cell.

Esmeralda’s Cell

Examine the book stand between the cell and the doorway on the right. Use the YELLOW BOOKMARK on the book to obtain the final clue.
Return to the Rectory (Upstairs).

Upstairs Hall

Click on the previously locked door on the left to gain access inside.

Bishop’s Room

Click on the final ROSARIES 4/4 to add it to your inventory, then talk to the Bishop.
Return to the Upstairs Hall and proceed up to the Attic.

Attic

Take a closer look at the chest. Use the ROSARIES on the chest to trigger a puzzle.
Arrange and rotate the rosaries as needed so that each one is used in the puzzle and no empty spaces are left. All the rosary crosses are the same size, so which cross (aka which color) is used where doesn’t matter. The solution is shown below.
