The wait is over, Grow A Garden 2 is officially here, and it has all kinds of new features we’re excited to get into in detail, but first thing’s first, the thing everyone seems to be curious about: mutations. They were a massive deal in the first game, and they’re back in the second… but not exactly the same as they were before. This Grow A Garden 2 mutations list might shed a bit of light on it all.

Grow A Garden 2 Mutations List

We’ve divided this into sections covering mutations we’ve confirmed in-game, ones we expect to see, and one discussing new mutations unique to Grow A Garden 2. We’ll update this as updates roll in, or if we find anything else that’s worth mentioning as we put more hours in.

Confirmed Mutations List

“Hand… so… cold.”

So far, we’ve only been able to confirm a small number of mutations currently available in the game, and all of them are Grow A Garden staples.

Gold – Approximately A 6x Multiplier

Unlike the Grow A Garden version of the mutation, Grow A Garden 2’s version of the gold mutation doesn’t just naturally occur in ordinary plants. Instead it grows from Golden Plants. You can acquire gold plants by picking up Gold Seeds. These spawn in the centre during the Midas event. You’ll need to run out and pick them up before anyone else does. These look very much like their original version. They’re gpld and a bit sparkly.

Rainbow – Approximately A 40x Multiplier

Rainbow is a lot like its original version, with a small chance to spawn a Rainbow fruit when a crop grows. Crops with this appear multiple colours, phasing through different main shades, with different coloured flashes and sparks at the edges.

Green Apples – 0x Multiplier

These rarely grow from apple trees. They’re not actually worth any more than the default red apples, but the color variation is pretty nice.

Frozen – Approximately A 5x Multiplier

Frozen is simpler than in Grow A Garden. No need to get the fruit rained on then chilled in a cold snap. Instead it’s a one-stage thing. You get this through the Snowfall event, with a chance for any fruit to freeze solid while the event is ongoing. These, much like in the original, look like they’re frozen in a big ice cube.

Starstruck – Approximately A x50 Multiplier

Available through the Starfall event. (Though it appears that a direct hit from a falling star doesn’t guarantee this mutation.) Any crops with this mutation get a glowy gold aura and little green stars appear on their surface. Adorable.

Are There Any New Mutations?

“Come ooon, get Starstruck!”

We haven’t found any completely new mutations yet. The Gold mutation definitely got a bit of a rework, and the Frozen one has changed a little, but they’re both very much old school GaG names, so it’s hard to really think of them as anything new. It’s early days though, the game literally just came out, so we’d  suggest giving the developers a little bit of time to cook. We imagine we’ll probably see some more of the old favorites before we see anything new, but at this point who knows? The game has already thrown a lot of curve balls our way, like having to chase thieves off our plot every night. (Leave my gold apple tree alone!)
