Welcome to Gamezebo’s strategy guide for Gotcha: Celebrity Secrets.

General Tips

Gotcha: Celebrity Secrets is a Hidden Object Game more in the style of Where’s Waldo than in classic HOGs.  Instead of looking for objects, you are looking for people.

Game Play

  • The game is broken into 5 "Chapters" with 8 "Posts."  The game gets harder as the game progresses.
  • The story is told in a comic book style.  You can either skip it or read the frames.  Either way, you do not need to know the story to complete the game.
  • Except for the bonus items, you are only looking for people.
  • The bottom of the screen displays the people you are looking for.  You either get a picture, a silhouette or a written description.  Although the people are recycled through all the Posts, you won’t always get the same clue for each person.  For example, there’s a character dressed like a pirate.  Sometimes you will get the written description "Pirate," sometimes you will get the silhouette, sometimes you will get a full-body picture and sometimes just a close-up of her face.
    • Tip:  Always check the perimeter of the screen.  Often the person I couldn’t find was tucked away into the bottom corner of the screen.
    • Tip:  All the colours and people can become overwhelming.  Sometimes I would focus on just finding the male characters or on finding a certain colour.  For female characters, I would focus on hair colour.
  • Each Post has bonus items to search for (see below under Medals and Bonuses).
  • Each Post is followed by a mini-game.  These range from Spot the Differences to jigsaw puzzles to logic puzzles.  None are overly challenging.
  • At the bottom of each post is a timer bar.  Find all the people before the bar runs out to achieve Expert.  It is not difficult to achieve Expert on all Posts.
    • Tip:  Each Post has three stopwatches.  Click on them to stop the clock for 15 seconds.  See below under Medals and Bonuses for more information regarding stopwatches.
    • Tip:  If you are running out of time, click Pause and click Restart Level.  You can restart the Post.  Any bonus items found previously will be counted.
  • The pictures for each Post are always the same.  Replaying/restarting a Post will give you a new list of people to look for.  If you had found bonus items previously, you won’t have to find them again.  The stopwatches will reappear.
  • You have unlimited hints.  The hint meter refills after 30 seconds.  There are no penalties for using a hint.  When you click Hint, it will randomly choose someone you are looking for.  A circle of stars will surround the person and their photo will shake.
    • Tip:  If you are running out of time and only have one or two people left to find, use a hint.
  • Too many clicks will get a warning but there is no penalty for wrong clicks.

Medals and Bonuses

  • This game takes score but it seems pointless.  It doesn’t appear to award points during game play but at the end of a Post.  I played the game to achieve all the medals and Expert on all Posts.
  • Each post has seven bonus items to find.  In each Post, you must find Gaby (always the same picture) and five gold stars.  Each Chapter has an additional person/item that you must find in each of its Posts.  Once you’ve completed a Post and returned to the Chapter screen, you’ll notice there is now a picture for that blog entry.  Your score will appear along with the bonus items found.  If you missed a bonus item, its silhouette will appear.
  • Tip:  Look for the bonus items first and then get the people needed to pass the level.  The bonus items are silhouetted at the bottom of the screen.  Finding one fills the silhouette.
  • Tip:  You do not need to replay a Post in full if you missed a bonus item.  Click on the Post to replay it and then find the bonus item(s).  You can then click Pause and Quit to Blog to return to the Chapter.
  • There are three stopwatches in each level.  Clicking on a stopwatch will stop the timer for 15 seconds.  If you click on another stopwatch while the timer is stopped, it will add 15 seconds to the remaining time.  For example, click all three while one is active and the timer will stop for 45 seconds.
  • Medals (trophies) are awarded in this game.  Tip:  Before you begin playing, from the Main Screen, click on the Medals icon (bottom of the screen) to see the medals awarded.  If medals/trophies are important to you, this will tell you what you need to do to achieve all of them.
    • Where’s Gaby?  This medal is awarded for finding Gaby in all the Posts.
    • I Love Bobby Rocker – This medal is awarded for finding Bobby Rocker in all the Posts in Chapter 1.
    • Ms D’Away, Is That You?  This medal is awarded for finding Carrie D’Away in all the Posts in Chapter 2.
    • I See a Baby – This medal is awarded for finding the baby bottle in all the Posts in Chapter 3.
    • Bad Newz Boyz – This medal is awarded for finding the CD in all the Posts in Chapter 4.
    • Awards, I Want One Too – This medal is awarded for finding the Pearlie Award in all the Posts in Chapter 5.
    • 3 People, 3 Seconds!  Find three people in three seconds.
      • Tip:  Locate three people and then click on them quickly.
    • 5 People, 3 Seconds!  Find five people in three seconds.
      • Tip:  First locate five people and then click on them very quickly.  Ensure they are all close together but try to avoid the top right-hand corner of the screen (your view will be blocked by their comments).  It took me several tries before I received the medal.  Try to get this medal at the beginning of the game when the levels are easier.
    • Expert Trophy – This medal is awarded for getting Expert on all Posts.
      • Tip:  When I finished the game, I went to the Medals section and I hadn’t received this medal.  I exited the game and when I returned, I had the medal.
    • All Stars – This medal is awarded for finding all five stars in all Posts.
      • Tip:  You aren’t told about the stars until the second Post so if you didn’t already get them, you can return to the first Post to get them.

Upgrading the Blog’s Appearance

  • This does not affect game play at all.  I didn’t bother with this feature as it didn’t affect anything.  This is a better feature in time management games, not in hidden object games.

Walkthrough

  • For each Post, the picture is the same however the list of people to find is always different.  This walkthrough will show you where the bonus items and stopwatches are, plus how to solve the mini-puzzles.

Chapter 1

  • After sitting through the short intro, click either Skip or Next/OK.  This is Gaby’s blog.  Click on the first Post and a cell phone with a text message will appear.  Click OK to continue.
  • In addition to Gaby and the five stars, you must find Bobby Rocker in all of Chapter 1’s Posts.

Post 1

            Mini-puzzle

  • Use the powers of deduction to solve this puzzle. You are given a description of the bride’s face and must click on the appropriate facial feature.
    • Tip: To solve the puzzle, you will have to combine some clues.
    • Solution: The order in which to read it to solve it is:

§  No facial piercings or moles – You need this information in order to eliminate other options.

§  Hair – Straight and blond.  Only one option.  Click on the photo of the straight blond hair (third photo).

§  Cute thin nose – There are only two noses that fit this description yet one has a piercing (see first clue).  Click the thin nose without the piercing (first photo).

§  Red or pink lipstick, no braces – This eliminates the first and last picture.  The red lipstick has a mole (see first clue) therefore it’s the pink lipstick.  Click the third photo.

§  Blue or green sleepy eyes – There are only two sets of eyes that fit this description however the green eyes have a piercing (see first clue), therefore it’s the blue eyes.  Click the fourth picture.

Post 2

            Mini-puzzle

  • To solve this puzzle, click on the question at the top of the screen and then based on the answer given, click on the matching pictures to eliminate that person. The last man left is the answer.

Post 3

            Mini-puzzle

  • This mini-puzzle is a Spot the Difference puzzle. You are not timed and only need to find seven items.

Post 4

  • After you’ve completed the list of people to find, you have to find the pieces of a wedding invitation.  You are timed.

            Mini-puzzle

  • You then have to piece the invitation back together. Click and drag the pieces into the frame as if completing a jigsaw puzzle.
    • Tip: Start with the four corner pieces, then to the edges, then the interior.

Post 5

            Mini-puzzle

  • You must put the four photos in the proper sequence. Click and drag the pictures into the empty squares below and click Submit. You are told how many pictures are in the right order. Rearrange the pictures until all four are in the right order.
  • The solution is different each time you do this puzzle so I can’t tell you exactly what to do but I can give some assistance. Use pencil and a piece of paper to keep track of your findings. To make things simpler, I’ll use a letter to represent each picture: A – Ship’s wheel, B – Boat, C – Life preserver, and D – Anchor.
    • First, click and drag the pictures down into the following order: A – B – C – D, then click Submit.

§  If you get 2 correct positions, try to determine which of the two are correct by moving the inside pieces (B and C), then the outside pieces (A and D).

§  You will have to continue from there until you find the correct order.

Post 6

  • After you’ve completed the list of people to find, you have to find a key.  You are timed.

            Mini-puzzle

  • You have to help the chef bake the wedding cake.
    • Tip: Hovering your mouse over puzzle elements will display gears turning.
  • The chef tells you to start with chocolate syrup. Click and drag the chocolate bar into the pot then turn on the element. When the chocolate is finished melting (you might have to click on it to stop), click and drag the pot to the cake.
  • Drag the baking ingredients to the mixer. Once the mixer is finished (you might have to click on it to stop) drag that to the cake. Click and drag the roses to the cake, then add the cake topper.

Post 7

            Mini-puzzle

  • This mini-puzzle is a classic match 2 puzzle. My strategy was to click on the postcard in the top left corner and click the one beside it. I also say what each item is out loud. This helps me remember. I proceeded from there.

Post 8

  • When you click on Bobby Rocker, you should receive a medal.  If not, once you have completed this Post, go back to Chapter 1 on Gaby’s blog and redo the Post to find Bobby Rocker (you will know because the Bobby Rocker icon will not be completed).
    • Tip:  You do not have to replay the entire Post.  Once you find Bobby Rocker, click Pause then Quit to Blog.  When asked if you’re sure, click Yes.
  • After you’ve completed the list of people to find, you have to find the money.  You are timed. G18

            Mini-puzzle

  • Your mouse turns into a camera lens and you have to get a picture of Heidi in her wedding gown. Heidi appears and reappears very slowly so it’s easy to click on her to get the picture. The pattern goes bodyguard, then Heidi, then another bodyguard, then Heidi and so on.
  • Heidi always appears on one of the boat levels.
  • If you miss her, relax and wait for her to reappear. There is no time limit.
  • I took some pretty bad pictures and they still counted.

Chapter 2 Post 9

  • For this Chapter, in addition to Gaby and the five stars, you have to find actress Carrie D’Away.  Click on her silhouette to see what she looks like.
  • This is the first Post that introduces a moving element to the game.  The bus comes and goes, make sure to look for people on the bus.
    • Tip:  The people on the bus are the same.

            Mini-puzzle

  • For this mini-puzzle, you just have to unscramble the fashion show pass. Once a square is in the proper place, it changes from black and white to colour. The top right-hand square is already in place. Click on two squares to switch their places. The final picture is in Gaby’s hand on the left-hand side of the screen.

Post 10

  • After finding all the people, find the VIP pass.

            Mini-puzzle

  • This mini-puzzle is a Spot the Difference puzzle. You are not timed and only need to find seven items.

Post 11

            Mini-puzzle

  • You have to put the cards in the proper order to show how the exercise is done.
  • When the right card is in the right position, the blue background will turn white.

Post 12

  • This is the first Post that has distractions.  Close-ups of the bodyguards will appear.  When you see them, click on them to make them go away.

            Mini-puzzle

  • Solving this puzzle means placing the different pictures in the proper position. Click two pictures to switch their places. Once a picture is in the right position, its background will fade.
    • Tip: There are three themes and four colours. You must line up the pictures based on theme and colour.
    • Tip: The puzzle starts with three pictures already in the proper place (they have lighter backgrounds). Before rearranging the pictures, take note of the items already in place.
    • Solution:

§  The rows are theme, the columns are colour.

§  The top row is the person (two pictures already in place), the second row is fruit (one item in place) so the third row is medicine (last remaining theme).

§  The first column is red (one item already in place), the third column is blue (one item in place), the fourth column is yellow (one item in place) so the second column is green (last remaining colour).

§  Place the remaining items in their proper positions.

Post 13

  • In this post, you are looking through binoculars.  You will have to move the mouse around to better see the full picture.  The screen capture has been brightened in order to better display the bonus items.

            Mini-puzzle

  • For this mini-puzzle, you have to determine the password for the door lock. The solution is different each time so I can’t give the solution but can give some assistance.
    • Tip: There are four numbers but only three needed for the password.

§  Start by determining what number does not appear in the password.  To do this, press 1 1 1 then click Submit.  Take note of the number of correct positions.  Repeat this for the 2s, 3s and 4s.

§  By this point, you should know the three numbers that appear in the password.  Enter them and keep trying until you get the correct password.

Post 14

            Mini-puzzle

  • This mini-puzzle is a twist on the classic Match 2 puzzle. Uncovering a dish either gets a written description or a picture. You must match the picture to the description, for example, 1 Lettuce at Morning is matched to the plate displaying a single piece of lettuce.
    • Tip: I started at the top left-hand plate, clicking on it and the plate beside it. To help me remember, I say what each item is out loud. I then proceeded to click on the next two plates. This way you’re not repeating clicks and will complete the puzzle faster.

Post 15

            Mini-puzzle

  • You have to rearrange the picture pieces. One piece is already in the proper position (it’s in colour). Start from this piece and work on completing the picture. Click on two pieces to switch their positions.

Post 16

  • When you click on Carrie D’Away, you should receive a medal.  If not, once you have completed this Post, go back to Chapter 2 on Gaby’s blog and redo the Post to find Carrie D’Away (you will know because the Carrie D’Away icon will not be completed).
    • Tip:  You do not have to replay the entire Post.  Once you find Carrie D’Away, click Pause then Quit to Blog.  When asked if you’re sure, click Yes.
  • This Post features a bus that moves in the bottom right of your screen.  Nothing is on it.
  • After finding all the people, find the 6 bodyguards.  You are timed.

            Mini-puzzle

  • Your mouse turns into a camera lens and you have to get a picture of various women who look like they’ve gotten plastic surgery. The screen capture shows the five places the women appear.
  • There are more bodyguards in this mini-puzzle then when you had to get Heidi’s picture.
  • Relax and wait for the women to reappear. There is no time limit.
  • I took some pretty bad pictures and they still counted.

Chapter 3 Post 17

  • For this Chapter, in addition to Gaby and the five stars, you have to find a baby bottle.

            Mini-puzzle

  • There are two steps to this mini-puzzle. First you must distract the store clerk, then you have to place the missing shapes onto the box.
    • Tip: Look around for something that would distract the clerk. Notice if you hover your mouse over the hamster cage, the moving gears appear, indicating this is part of the puzzle. Perhaps you could distract the clerk with the mouse by releasing it.

§  Solution:  Find the key and click and drag it onto the mouse’s cage.  When the mouse runs out, the clerk goes after it.  Then click and drag the shapes onto the box.

Post 18

            Mini-puzzle

  • You have to identify the doctor based on the clues provided.
  • Using the arrows, scroll through the pictures to find the picture that matches the description.
    • Tip: If the doctor has worked for the hospital for 30 years, he is probably an older gentleman.
    • Tip: If he’s usually ready for surgery, he probably doesn’t want to get his hands dirty.
    • Tip: If he’s eccentric and sometimes forgets he’s at work, he’s the one who isn’t wearing green scrubs or dress pants.
    • Solution: Or you can just use the screen capture.

Post 19

  • In this post, you are looking through a keyhole.  You will have to move the mouse around to better see the full picture.  The screen capture has been brightened in order to better display the bonus items.
  • After finding all the people, find the present.  You are timed.

  • This mini-puzzle is a Spot the Difference puzzle. You are not timed and only need to find seven items.

Post 20

            Mini-puzzle

  • This is another click to switch mini-puzzle. No pieces are in the right position.
    • Tip: You can either start with Gaby’s face or you can use the exterior of the puzzle to help you decided where to position the pieces.

Post 21

  • This Post features a limousine that moves appears and reappears in the middle of the screen.  Nothing is on it.
  • Like previous Posts, this one features moving bodyguards as distractions.  Click on them to make them disappear.
  • After finding all the people, find the three screwdrivers.

            Mini-puzzle

  •
    • You have to use the clues provided to place the coloured chips in the correct positions.

o   Tip:   First place the white and yellow chips as you are told exactly where they go.  Then read the clues out of order to help determine their position.

§  Solution:

  • As per the clues, place the yellow chip in position 5 and the white chip in position 3.
  • Place the red chip in position 4 (clue says place it between yellow and white chips).
  • Only positions 1 and 2 are free. As the blue chip can’t go into position 1 (according to a clue), place it in position 2.
  • Place the green chip into the last remaining position (position 2).

Post 23

  • After finding all the people, find the pieces of the VIP pass.  You are timed.

            Mini-puzzle

  •
    • Jigsaw puzzle.  I found it easier if I placed all four corner pieces and then put together the barcode at the bottom and worked my way up.

Post 24

  • When you click on the baby bottle, you should receive a medal.  If not, once you have completed this Post, go back to Chapter 3 on Gaby’s blog and redo the Post to find the baby bottle (you will know because the baby bottle icon will not be completed).
    • Tip:  You do not have to replay the entire Post.  Once you find the baby bottle, click Pause then Quit to Blog.  When asked if you’re sure, click Yes.
  • Like the bodyguards in other Posts, this one has balloons.  Click on them to get rid of them.

Post 27

    • Tip:  When playing a Post that has alternating pictures, if you use a hint and there are no matches, you will not have to wait for the hint meter to reset.

            Mini-puzzle

  •
    • This is another click to switch mini-puzzle.  No pieces are in the right position.  Use the perimeter to help you move pieces into their proper position.

Post 28

  • In this post, you are looking through binoculars.  You will have to move the mouse around to better see the full picture.  The screen capture has been brightened in order to better display the bonus items.

            Mini-puzzle

  •
    • You have to rearrange the picture pieces.  When a piece is in the right position, it will appear in colour.  Click on two pieces to switch their positions.  I took the very unelegant approach of choosing a piece and clicking around until I found the proper position.  Then I matched up the other pieces according to the correct one.

      • Tip:  You start with 0 items in the correct position.
        • First switch the top two pictures and click Submit.  If you get 0, then neither item belongs in the top row.  If you get 1, one of the items is in its proper place.  If you get 2, they are both in the right place.
        • Now switch the middle row’s pictures and do the same as written above.  Repeat for the third row.
        • At this point you have hopefully identified at least one or two pictures.  Write them down on a piece of paper.
        • Now you have to move around the pieces you think are in the wrong position and keep note of how many are in the wrong position.  If the number is lower than the one before, move the items back and try a different order.

            Mini-puzzle

  •
    • Your mouse turns into a camera lens and you have to get a picture of Janey and Ivana fighting.  They always appear from behind the seats.
