Three different styles

In Ghost Recon Commander, there are three types of characters to play with, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

  • The Assault character is the “tank” of the team. With extra health and armor, he is a tough nut to crack and your best choice if you need to fight up-close battles.

  • The Recon character is the stealth type. He can sneak up to enemies without them knowing, which is ideal in situations where the enemies are scattered, and you would rather not fight a whole bunch of them at once. He is also harder to hit with stray fire.

  • The Specialist character is the most accurate soldier. This doesn’t only increase his chances of making a headshot, but it also means that you can use him to shoot enemies from a longer distance and thus don’t have to get within their shooting range.

A balanced team

The most important strategy in Ghost Recon Commanderis to make sure you have a balanced team when you go out on missions. The nice thing is, though, that having one of these characters on your team will boost that character’s specialty for your entire team. So if you are an assault character, and you hire a specialist character, your own character will also have improved accuracy.

Train your desired skills to become a balanced character

As good as it is to have a balanced team, having a balanced character will certainly give you the edge over your enemies. One of Ghost Recon Commander‘s best features in this, is that it allows you to very specifically improve stats that matter to you. If you love sneaking around with a recon character but are always killed too quickly, place some beds in your camp to increase your health. If you would like to be able to make shots from further distances, place some targets to increase your distance and your accuracy. This way, you can very specifically choose which skill you want to improve on next and play the game the way you like to best.

You can also use gadgets, bought in the store or rewarded after completing a mission, to balance out your character by improving certain skills while in battle.

Advanced tactics

Showing your true skills as a Ghost is about more than just clicking away. Outsmarting the enemy to gain a tactical advantage is similarly important.

By default, your team will always stick together. While it makes things easier, and will enable your team mates to cover your back (Team Counterattack), there are situations where it could be preferable to split up. If for instance, you want to sneak around, taking out enemies 1-by-1, rather then alert the entire group, you are best off going out with just the stealthy Recon team member. Another instance is if you are facing enemies that throw grenades; keep your team together, and one grenade will do massive damage to your entire team, rather than just one of the members.

TIP: When you’re trying to use stealth to sneak past enemies, or surprise attack them, make sure you keep an eye out to their icons. If you see an exclamation mark-icon, they suspect something and you might have to take a different route, or take them out right away, before they can prepare for you.

Health and ammo are another element that can influence your tactics. While Ghost Recon Commander does not have a time limit for “cool downs” strictly speaking, you are limited by your health and your ammo, which recover over time. The very basic rule is, the further you are from an enemy, the harder it is for them to hit you, saving you health, but also the harder it is for you to hit them, costing you ammo. If you have more ammo then health left, trying to attack from a distance is a better tactic. However, if you’re running low on ammo but still have plenty of health, just barge in and take the enemy out up-close, making sure every shot counts

Another trick of the trade is the run-and-gun method. While you are not normally able to move and shoot at the same time, you can exploit the enemy’s reaction to you running towards them. When you click on a position just behind an enemy, they will ready themselves to fight you there. While your character is still running, click on the enemy to shoot him while you’re moving. Be careful to always run towards enemies in an angle though; run towards them head-on and you’re a sitting duck.

Finally, make sure that you keep an eye out for environmental elements that can help you, such as exploding crates or barrels. One well-aimed shot, and you’ll be able to take out multiple enemies with just one bullet! If you can lure some extra enemies within it’s vicinity, even better.
