Gasketball by Mikengreg is a free to play arcade style puzzle game that is all about making a basket. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started:

When you install Gasketball and first run it, you will be met with the original Gasketball baller. This floaty robot tells you to heed its words, something I suggest you do. It will guide you through a sequence of tutorial stages that introduce every aspect of Gasketball.
Press the play button in the lower right hand corner of the screen. This will open up a menu that lists the game’s levels. Follow the Gasketball Baller’s instructions and select the first level, entitled Fundamentals.

The Fundamentals:

Shooting – Shooting is obviously the most important concept in a game about getting baskets. Below is an image of the area from within which you can shoot the basketball. Press and hold the ball and you can move it anywhere inside the gray circles before shooting. To shoot, simply flick in the direction you want the ball to go. Afterwards, a white dotted line will show the trajectory of your shot — very important when trying to line up your next shot.

In Game Objects – Gasketball is more than a basketball game. It’s a puzzle game, and the only way to compete is by knowing your way around the in game objects that both help and hurt you. The following is a list of these objects.
Basket – To complete a stage, you must get the ball into the basket. If you get the ball in without hitting the backboard or rim, you’ll earn extra points.

Barriers – These walls — either suspended in the middle of the screen or along the perimeter — will cause the basketball to bounce off of them. If a wall (or any other object) has a red border around, that means you must hit that object with the basketball before getting it into the basket or your robot referee will fry the ball with a laser.

Buzzsaw – This object does exactly what it looks like it does. It cuts your basketball in half. Avoid hitting this at all costs.

Booster – The booster gives your basketball a big kick of momentum, propelling it faster and further than it would have otherwise travelled. Whatever direction you are traveling when you strike the booster, hitting it will fling you even further.

Flipper – Anyone who’s ever touched a pinball machine knows what this thing will do. When your basketball touches it, the bumper will flick it. The only difference is that you have no control over the bumpers in Gasketball.

Bumper – The bumper does much the same thing as the flipper, except this object will send your basketball flying back towards whatever direction it struck from.

Spinfusor – When you pass your ball through the spinfusor, it grants a slight speed boost, but more importantly adds spin to the shot. Once your basketball is spinning, it will be more difficult to anticipate its trajectory after it bounces. A solid backspin will also help you get the ball around obstacles that you may not be able to get around otherwise.

Grav Switch – This object is a lot a fun. When you pass your ball through it, gravity is reversed and the basket is inverted. Anticipating how the switch will affect your shot mid-air is key to using this object properly.

Teleporter – Though slightly less mind-bending than the portals in Portal, these teleporters make for some complicated levels. When you shoot a ball through a teleporter, it comes out of the teleporter coupled to it with the same velocity and trajectory that sent it through. Lining up shots through multiple sets of teleporters can be tough, but very satisfying.
Conveyor – This object does exactly what is sounds like it does. Just as conveyor belts convey your luggage in the airport, the conveyor will move a basketball down its length.

Single Player:

Challenge Arenas – In addition to the tutorial level, the free version of Gasketball comes with a challenge arena called Hotshots. After you finish this (which won’t take long), you’ll have to spend some cash for new challenge arenas. They’re explained below.
Roboballin’ 101 – Roboballin’ 101 is much like Hotshots — there’s just more of it. For the most part, each stage is built around bank shots and buzzsaws.

Cosmo Jam World – Cosmo Jam World has a sci fi palette and centers its puzzles around teleporters and grav switches.

Gasketslamcade – Set in a crazy robot arcade, the stages of this challenge arena are all about the bumpers and flippers — a reasonable decision, considering the environment.

The Dunkworks – The Dunkworks feature a bit of everything, but the puzzles in this challenge arena are mostly built around spinfusers and conveyor belts.

Multiplayer:

Gasketball features two multiplayer modes, H.O.R.S.E — which allows you to play others online — and 1 on 1 — my personal favorite. For 1 on 1, find yourself a friend and sit side by side. Each player has a basket and infinite basketballs. Whoever sinks the most balls in the other player’s basket wins.

Tips:

Don’t be shy – If you’re having trouble getting past a certain level, don’t be afraid to fire off shots indiscriminately. Though it will negatively affect your score, sometimes flinging a ball forcefully and somewhat randomly will end in a result you didn’t expect — giving you fresh ideas for how to make a more accurate shot next time.
Move – Some baskets can be made much more easily if you adjust the starting position of your shot. Don’t be afraid to adjust before you shoot.
1 on 1 – When playing 1 on 1, try to knock your opponents balls into their own basket. You get double points, plus it will make your opponent angry.
