Game Introduction – Fright Heights

Fright Heights is a puzzle game created by Chillingo. You clear a haunted tower of nosy humans by managing ghosts according to their numerical values. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to clear your domicile of those meddling kids.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

Fright Heights

  • Fright Heights is free to play. You can download it by using the “Available On” box at the top of this page.
  • A brief tutorial follows that lays down the basics of playing Fright Heights. Advanced tutorials will occasionally pop up in subsequent levels.
  • Once the tutorial is done, you’re directed straight to the first tower.

How to Play

Fright Heights

  • Objective – Fright Heights is a puzzle game centered on a series of haunted towers. Various ghosts, ghouls, and beasties are already living there, and they don’t appreciate the human intruders that keep trickling in. You need to place ghosts and humans floor-by-floor and build up enough “fright” to send the humans running. If you manage to clear away all the humans on-screen by the time you reach the top floor, you can move on to the next level.
  • Options – Hit the “Options” button on the main menu to turn music, sound effects, and level tutorials on and off. These options also pop up when you pause the game during a level.
  • Boo-Bucks – You earn “Boo-Bucks” when you clear towers, which in turn can be used to purchase talismans.
  • Talismans – Talismans are essentially power-ups that make clearing towers a little easier. You can choose one before each level. Most talismans need to be unlocked and bought, but you’re given a few “soul swap” freebies early in the game.
  • In-App Purchases – Don’t want to grind for Boo-Bucks? You can purchase more using real-world cash via in-app purchases.

Scaring Humans Witless

Fright Heights

  • The Shape of Ghosts – Ghosts and monsters are surrounded by numerical values on different sides of their bodies. This effectively turns the ghosts into puzzle pieces as a result. Some are line-shaped, some are cross-shaped, and so on. Basics ghosts, for example, are centered in a cross pattern that includes numbers on the top, on the bottom, and on both sides.
  • Random Ghosts, Random People – The right side of your screen is the building layout, which serves as your game board. On the left side of the screen there’s a randomized lineup of humans and monsters. This lineup is never the same twice.
  • Add Up Scares – When a ghost’s number occupies a chamber, that chamber’s scare power increases accordingly. When you place a human in a room marked by a number, they become frightened. If the number matches or exceeds the value needed to send the human (or humans) running (look on the right-hand side of each floor), the floor will clear.
  • Additionally – If two or more monster numbers occupy the same room, their value will stack. This becomes important to remember when later levels require you to meet higher totals before you can clear a floor.
  • Go Away, Humans – You must clear a building of all visible humans before you’re allowed to move on. Note that the bottom-most on-screen floor needs to be cleared before placed humans will flee the upper floors. This is a good way to chain attacks for bigger point bonuses.

Talismans

Fright Heights

  • Some Magical Help – Talismans grant power-ups and boosts that can help you clear a level quickly and efficiently. Talismans can be bought with Boo-Bucks.
  • Soul Swap – This talisman swaps out the soul of the topmost monster in your line-up. It helps a weaker monster become more powerful by casting a wider numerical radius.
  • Storm Surge – Doubles the number of monsters in your line-up, making it easier to scare humans.
  • Monster Mayhem – This talisman summons a monster that scares everything off a floor.

Social Options

Fright Heights

  • Facebook – You can log into Facebook to challenge friends and share scores and achievements. You’re given the option to connect Facebook every time you start up the game, and there’s a Facebook button at the start of each level.

Tips

Fright Heights

  • Think Fast – You only have a limited amount of time to place your humans and monsters on a floor, so think quickly! If you fail to make a placement before time runs out, the game will slot the human or monster into a random position.
  • Stack ‘Em – A floor will clear when the marked total is met or exceeded – but only if the floor below is cleared, too. It’s a good idea to get the hang of stacking monsters and people so that when the bottom floor clears, the others clear as well in a chain reaction.
