Freak Tower is a tower/business sim game created by GungHo Online Entertainment. You’ll be renting rooms to a number of oddballs, raking in cash by setting up stores and keeping them stocked, fending off giant monster attacks using a giant crane arm on the roof, and even taking care of a weird little creature living in the basement. Getting Started

You can start playing Freak Tower at any time by clicking/tapping on the “Play Now” button at the top of the screen.
As per usual there are push notifications to consider, however, you can go into the settings later to decide what you would and wouldn’t like to be kept informed of, so don’t worry too much about them right now.
Once you’re finished, you’ll be dropped into the first phase of the tutorial for all of a few seconds before a giant monster attacks. Don’t panic when it starts to wreck your tower; this is normal. It’s all part of the lead-in before you get to start a tower of your very own from the ground up.

Interface Basics

The “Build Floor” is what you’ll need whenever you want to add another floor to the tower. It can be found on the roof, directly under the crane, and will show you exactly how many coins are needed for the next addition. Tap it and you’ll see a list of five different kinds of floors to build (restaurant, recreation, service, retail, and apartment) along with how many you currently have constructed.
The “Okay” button on the bottom left of the screen is actually meant to display the elevator’s status. Okay means it’s sitting on the first floor ready to go, an up arrow means it’s going up, and a down arrow means it’s going down. Simple. The nice thing about it is that you can also tap on it at any time to snap the camera to it; handy for following a new resident to their apartment, immediately jumping back to the slot machine, and so on.
The “Home” button on the bottom right opens the main menu. Inside you’ll find tabs for (from left to right) monitoring your residents, upgrading your crane, upgrading the elevator speed, adding more reels to the slot machine, exchanging jewels (premium currency) for coins, purchasing jewels outright, the Almanac, Friends list, Network connections (Facebook, Twitter, etc), Options, Doping (temporary output boost to a given floor), and support.
The “Hunting” button at the top right is there for all your monster hunting needs. Tap it to bring up a list of possible creatures to attract to the tower, then take them on at your own risk.
The “ToDo” button only appears when tasks need doing, but it’ll always pop up just above the Home button on the bottom right. Tap it to immediately jump to whichever floor or floors need attention.

How to Play

The whole point of Freak Tower is to try and build a massive tower, and hopefully have fun while doing it. There’s no hurry and no real competition aside from comparing your tower to your friends’.
The main driving factor is building more floors; however, you’ll also want to manage the ones you already have. Keep an eye out for the telltale box icon that indicates a shipment has been delivered, because if you don’t actually tap it your shop won’t stock it. Also look out for the little blue sleepy icons as they indicate that a store needs to be restocked.
Tap on a floor to interact with it. In the case of apartments it brings up a list of current residents living on that floor, along with their job ratings and current state of employment. Tap a resident in the list to take a closer look, then tap “Outfits” to change their style, “Job” to change or assign a job, and “Evict” to give them the boot. In the case of a store, a list displaying the current number of workers (up to three) will pop up, as well as a number of different items to purchase for resale. Simply tap the green “restock” button to spend the displayed amount of coins and order the product.

The Slot Machine

When you’ve got time to burn, remember the slot machine. At the very least it will attract more freaks to the tower and earn you a little more cash or possibly a new resident. However, if you can match three of a given symbol you’ll get a special V.I.P., such as:
Delivery Man – Line up three boxes and he’ll immediately stock goods in a shop, regardless of how much time might be left.
Real Estate Agent – Get three doors and, assuming there are any empty rooms on an apartment floor, he’ll fill each and every one of them.
Jewel Dealer – Hit three jewels in a row and he’ll give you jewels for free, and pays out more the higher up the tower he goes.
777 – Doesn’t summon a character but will pay out free coins.
Critic – Three magnifying glasses will summon her to increase the number of customers on whichever floor she visits.
Celebrity – Match three pairs of sunglasses and the celebrity appears to buy out all of a single product on the floor.
Construction Worker – A trio of hard hats is all you need to summon him and knock off three hours of construction time on an in-progress floor. Assuming there is one.

Hunting

Once you’re done with the basic tutorial you won’t have to worry about monster attacks unless you want to. If you want to, tap the “Hunting” button at the top right of the screen and pull up a list of available hunts.
Each item on the list is a different monster, and each monster can be defeated four different times (getting tougher with each iteration).
When selecting a monster to hunt, check out its stats beforehand. At the top of the info page it shows how much it will cost to challenge it and how much defeating it will pay. It also displays the monster’s weaknesses (i.e. restaurant, retail, etc).
Once you’re ready to go, hit “Start” and the monster will begin its assault: starting at the bottom of the tower and working its way up as your freaks pelt it with debris while it climbs past them.

Amidst all the chaos you’ll have access to your crane arms, which can be used to drop nets, poison, flowerpots, and bombs at the cost of a specific amount of energy. The energy required varies based on whether or not you’ve upgraded your crane to charge faster, and/or if you’ve upgraded your items to cost less for each use.
The Net does no damage but will slow the monster down temporarily.
The Poison will cause continuous damage over a set period of time.
The Bomb does a specific amount of direct damage.
The Flowerpot will knock the monster down a few floors, depending on its strength.

Tips and tricks

Be patient. As tempting as it may be to spend jewels on speeding up a delivery, you’re much better off saving them up for permanent upgrades.
Unless you’re swimming in jewels, buying premium outfits and accessories is a waste. Save those jewels!
If you plan on doing a lot of hunting, pour jewels into your crane and items. The faster it charges, and the less items cost to use, the easier it will be.
Plan ahead when hunting monsters. If the critter you’re planning to fight is weak against retail, and you have no retail shops, don’t bother fighting it. Conversely, if you do have retail shops (and they’re fully staffed), think about using nets to slow it down as it passes in order to maximize damage.
Don’t be afraid to fail a hunt. If the worst should happen, you’ll just be out the initial fee for summoning the monster. You’ll also miss out on the possible floor upgrades you’d have earned by defeating it, but you can always try again. The important thing to remember is that there’s no significant loss if you can’t take it out.
Keep your residents happy. It sounds simple, but putting the right freak in the right job can make a huge difference. So keep an eye out for their favorites (i.e. a sparkly number in their stats). If they prefer to work in a restaurant, put them in one. Only drop a freak into an undesired spot if you can’t fill it with a better candidate; because making some money is better than making no money.
Monitor your new freaks. If you just acquired a retail specialist and you know there’s a non-specialist working in one of your retail floors, switch them.
By the same token, don’t immediately start restocking once a delivery is finished. You can’t swap out freaks if the floor they work on is restocking. So try to make the switch beforehand, otherwise you’ll either have to spend precious jewels to speed things up or wait for a couple of hours.
Keep spinning those reels. Never let up on the slot machine if you can. Between the bonus coins earned from simply attracting more freaks to getting new residents and the plethora of super-useful V.I.Ps, it’s kind of a win/win.
Keep your pet happy and put it to good use. Once your fifteenth floor is constructed you’ll earn your first pet. Clean up its poo and make it help out at various stores in order to keep it happy and level it up.
Seriously, don’t forget your pet. It might be a pain to clean up after but each time it helps a store you’ll be able to reap a fair number of benefits such as instant stock sales and shortened delivery times.
Take a break. Freak Tower doesn’t stop running even when the game is totally closed out, so don’t feel like you have to manage everything all at once. Restock, clean up pet poo, maybe fight a monster or two and then go do something else. When you come back there will no doubt be tens of thousands of coins waiting for you.
