Welcome to Gamezebo’s strategy guide for Family Mystery – The Story of Amy. As Amy looks through an album of old family pictures, she discovers her family’s secret history. There are 31 Hidden Object scenes in all.

The game is divided into 19 scenes.

This guide is divided into sections:

GENERAL TIPS (no spoilers)

  • The story for this game is very inconsistent with a lot of self-contradictions. So you can get the general idea of it, but don’t try to follow too closely or it will just be confusing! At first I thought those were clues to a mystery, but they’re not. They’re just conflicting statements.
  • If you are trying to follow the story, remember that the album belongs to Amy’s grandmother Jen. Melissa is Amy’s mother. So if it calls someone Uncle Bob, it means the grandmother’s uncle, who is Amy’s greatgreatuncle.
  • Even though the album belongs to Grandmother Jen, some of the captions make it look like it belongs to Amy. The page about Melissa, who is Jen’s daughter, is labeled "My Mother’s Story." So quite often the story text doesn’t match the captions.
  • The game itself is a Hidden Object game. You see a line drawing. As you find objects from the find list, those parts of the drawing fill in with color. When you find all objects, the entire photo fills in.
  • You can look at either the silhouettes of the objects to be found or a word list. You can switch back and forth between these at anytime by clicking on A or B at the bottom of the list. I found the silhouettes the most useful.
  • I found it very hard to tell what the objects were, even after I found them! Nothing is to scale, and the colors are not right for where they are in the photo. So a soft triangular shape might turn out to be a large beetle, a small hat, some kind of flower, or even a metal pitcher, but I wouldn’t know until after I’d found it and the color filled in. And sometimes not even then! So just look for them as shapes.
  • The objects may be rotated in any direction, they don’t have to point the way they do on the Find List.
  • You have a choice of two kinds of hints. If you click the hint button on the right, white sparkles will appear over an object. These are sometimes hard to see unless you’re looking right at them.
  • If you click the hint button on the left, a big pink bubble will float from the bottom of the scene to the top. On its way up, it will pass over at least one hidden object.
  • If you take a long time between clicks, one of the hidden objects will wiggle a little to call attention to itself.
  • You can earn more hints by playing the mini-games. Otherwise they are optional. I have given the answer to the Quiz mini-game for each photo in its section.
  • When you complete a page in the album, you will go to the Family Tree and the next person will be unlocked.

INSIDE COVER PHOTO: AMY’S TWIN SISTER

This picture makes no sense, since early on the story said that Melissa was 8 months pregnant when the plane her husband was flying crashed, that both Melissa and John died as a result of the crash, but that the hospital was able to save the baby (Amy). Yet here is a picture of a smiling, unbruised Melissa in a hospital bed holding two healthy beautiful twins. And the caption says this is the happiest day of Jen’s life, when it should be the day her daughter Melissa died. Maybe it’s part of a mystery that will be explained in the sequel, but I think it’s just inconsistency in the story.
