Knighthood come out a few days ago, and if you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s a new RPG from King. Yes, that King, the makers of Candy Crush and all those other Crush games. This one isn’t about matching gems though, it’s much deeper than that.

You play as a knight, setting off on a journey to slice up monsters, gain experience and save the world. It’s a pretty standard idea, but there are some interesting twists that keep things interesting – and can be a bit complicated if you’re just setting off on your quest.

Don’t worry though, because with our starters guide you can be sure that nothing is going to fly over your head. We’re going to break down everything you need to know to make sure that your adventure gets off on the best, armour-clad foot.

Got any questions or tips that you think might help other players, then make sure you chuck them in the comments below – after all, sharing is caring.

Know What You’ve Got

You’ve got two attacks available to you from the start – your equipped weapon and your gauntlet – and they have different strengths and weaknesses that you need to consider.

Weapons often have strengths and weaknesses against the enemies you’re going to be fighting, but handily the game will tell you before you start a level whether your equipped gear is going to give you a boost against the foes you’re taking on.

The same goes for your heroes – other characters that you summon to help you in fights. Their attacks charge up as you do weapon attacks, but they have special moves that you can only unlock by using your gauntlet.

You can either swipe on the screen or tap a button to use your gauntlet, and chaining attacks together fills up the meter quicker. When the special move is ready, you need to pick which of your two heroes is going to attack.

These special moves are really important to success – they let you heal, damage multiple opponents, and more. Learning to use them at the right time is really essential, so make sure you’re not wasting them,

Chain Your Attacks

While the game is turn-based, when it’s your go to attack you’ve got four action points to use up in real time. Tapping to attack is one thing, but you need to make sure you’re chaining the attacks together in combos to get the most out of your turn.

You can use your weapon and your gauntlet to keep these chains going, and depending on which move you use last, you’ll get a massive boost to either damage or your special move charge.

Sometimes you’ll kill an enemy in the middle of a chain, but don’t fret – swipe in the direction of the next enemy and you’ll be able to keep the chain going and still get the bonuses from the extra attacks.

Upgrade Your Gear

You’ll get new equipment pretty regularly, but to make sure you’re keeping up with the level of the monsters you’re fighting, you’re going to need to upgrade what you’ve got.

There are mines that you unlock that give you materials you can use to strengthen not just your weaponry, but your armour and your other equipment as well. On top of that you’ll find extra materials in chests and as rewards for finishing levels.

Try and keep your gear around the same level as your knight and you’re going to do fine. Use XP scrolls on your heroes – again found in chests and by completing missions – to make sure they’re tough enough for what the game is going to throw at them as well.
