Empires & Allies – Game Introduction

Empires & Allies is a Facebook game developed by Zynga that lets you defend your island and fight back against the invading Evil Dark Alliance. Gamezebo’s Empires & Allies strategy guide and walkthrough will provide you with a quick start guide, tips and tricks, hints and cheats to help you defeat your opponents.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

  • Empires & Allies is played on Facebook and you will need to have a current account to play. If you need to register for a free account click here – http://www.facebook.com
  • Once you have a Facebook account you are ready to play and can click on the “Free – Play Now” button at the top of this page.
  • You will be asked to give permission to allow the developer to post messages on your profile page at Facebook. Click on “Allow” and proceed to the game.
  • After watching the short intro animation, General Scarlett will walk you through a tutorial, explaining the basics of the game.

Establishing the Base of Your Empire

The in-game tutorial will get you through the basics of getting your town running, but as it keeps throwing new assignments to you, choices will have to be made. In order to get your empire going and making sure your empire develops at a steady rate, try and establish the following basics:

Empires & Allies
  • Have 350 residents in your village.
  • Remember that, in order to support that many residents, you will need to build and staff the first three government buildings: the Parliament, the Executive Mansion and the World Embassy.
  • Build at least three farms, to ensure a steady income of coins.
  • Build at least three lumber mills, to ensure a steady income of wood.
  • Build at least three oil wells, to ensure a steady income of oil.
  • Although you don’t have much need yet for ore in the beginning of the game, building and using just one ore mine will make things easier in the long term.
  • Build at least two barracks, one shipyard and hangar, to ensure that you can train enough troops for battle.

Expanding Your Empire

As you proceed through the campaign, you’ll find that your empire is getting a little too cramped for all the buildings you want. Keeping a war machine going requires space! If you want to expand, either click on any of the dark area’s surrounding your empire, or go to the “Expansion” section in the “Build” menu.

Expanding your empire will cost you liberty bonds and coins. An expansion will always cost 10 liberty bonds, but with every expansion, the next will cost you more coins. Liberty bonds can be earned by leveling up, completing certain missions, helping your allies or buying them with empire points.

Government Buildings

The maximum population of your empire is linked to your government buildings. The more government buildings you have build, the more population your empire can house, which in turn means more money.

In order to get a government building to work, you will need to hire staff for several of the positions. In this case, it’s good if you have friends who are already playing the game, as they can fill these positions.

However, if you have no friends in Empires & Allies, your in-game ally will sometimes offer to fill these positions. He can fill multiple positions, and will offer this once a day. If you’re not as patient though, you can use some of the empire credits you have earned to hire a character controlled by the game to fill the position, so you can start using the government building.

Resources

In order to keep your empire going you will need coins, wood, oil and ore. Each of these resources can also be earned when you win battles, or by building buildings.

  • Coins, much like in the real world, keep the world go round and are used to buy things. Coins are earned by collecting tax from your residents, and by producing food on farms.
  • Wood is needed to build buildings and decorations. Wood is obtained by ordering it from the lumber mill or by cutting down trees.
  • Oil is needed to build your troops. Oil is obtained by ordering it from the oil well.
  • Ore is needed to build advanced buildings and troops. Ore is obtained by ordering it from the ore mine.
  • A market can be used to sell resources, that you do not need, for a coin profit.

As you progress through the campaign, you will be able to build upgraded versions of these buildings, which bring back more resources for less cost.

Troops

As Empires & Allies is a war strategy game, training your troops is vital to proceed through the game. In order to train your troops, you need to order the troops of your choice at barracks, shipyards, or hangars, depending on which type of unit you want.

  • Barracks are used to train land-based troops, such as soldiers, artillery, and tanks.
  • Shipyards are used to train sea-based troops, such as gunboats, carriers, and battleships.
  • Hangars are used to train airborne troops, such as fighters, airships, and bombers.

Proceeding Through the Campaign

Like most Facebook games, Empires & Allies is a game that can pretty much be played at your own pace. Whether you want to slowly build up your forces first, or if you want to fight battle after battle, it’s up to you.

If you want to proceed to battle your next opponent, click the “Battle Map”, the globe on the bottom right of your corner. Click on the avatar of your next opponent, and select “Fight Now!” to start the next battle, or do some research first and check the “Details”. By checking the details of a battle first, you can make sure that you have the best troops ready to battle the enemy’s troops.

Battle Strategies

Battles in Empires & Allies are a bit like rock-paper-scissors, where one troop is more effective against another, which in turn is more effective against yet another sort of troop.

When entering a battle, you will first see the troops that they are sending in, and in case of fighting other players, you get to choose the theater for the battle. Decide on the theater depending on which of your troops is most effective against theirs, and which theater that troop fights on.

If you shoot at an enemy troop you don’t have an advantage against, there is an increased chance in missing the target. It also works the other way around: if you first defeat the enemy troops that are effective against your troops, you will survive longer.

When choosing your troops, do not only look at their strength fighting the enemy troops, but also consider their weaknesses. The trick to a troop’s strengths and weaknesses against another is not only in the amount of damage done to one another, but it also influences the accuracy of the shots.

Allies – Aiding Your Friends

When allying with your friends on Facebook, each day you can use five visitor energy to help out one of your friends, with a diversity of tasks, such as collecting resources, speeding up production, or defending their empire from an invasion.

Performing these tasks can earn you a variety of resources, but it will also earn you honor. Each time you level up on the honor scale, you will receive a free honor power-up, which are usually defensive power-ups.

Allies – Invading Your Friends

While you can help your allies, a friendly brawl is never time wasted either. For this purpose, you can invade your allies. This is actually beneficial to both players. The invading party will receive resources and experience points, without the ally actually losing them. The ally that is being invaded, will also get experience points from battle, and receive resources from defeating the invading forces. After invading an ally, make sure you collect the spoils.

Successfully invading an ally will earn you whatever resources you took from them, but it will also earn you infamy. Each time you level up on the infamy scale, you will receive a free infamy power-up, which are usually offensive power-ups.

Congratulations!
